Yes, it's one of the fall premieres I'm keeping an eye on, along with Foundation (AppleTV+, 24-Sep-2021), the new Lord of the Rings series (Prime), and the new GoT spin-off House of the Dragon (HBO, 1-Jan-2022). Also waiting on the third and final season of Lost in Space (Netflix), the third season of The Orville (Hulu), and obviously most of all the final season of The Expanse (Prime). And then there are all these new Star Wars spin-off series (The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka, The Book of Boba Fett, Andor) as well.

I want your reaction to when you get to the 1,000 page'd chapter :) I think it's book 8. Jordan was a fantastic writer but hell, he went on sometimes. Although you remember those scenes forevermore. I still remember the first scene with Moirane and I haven't read the first book since 2003 (second read of it)

You covered the story well, for what you have read so far. I also think the teaser trailer looks good. I have read the full series 3 times now, and it's tough dealing with the repetitive writing, covering content and descriptions of things over and over again. Then I remember reading the first book in 1990, and waiting for the second to come out for months(years sometimes for other releases) and understand why he had to remind us the reader of what has gone on before. It would be like a new Game of Thrones release, most likely we would have to do a re-read of the series before reading the next novel in the series, just to catch up with what has gone on. The TV series cut so much out, that I am sure G.R.R. Martin would want to continue.

One thing to note, it's not just a Good vs Evil story, it's more one about balance, concerning gender, power dynamics and even metaphysics. I can't get into why in regards to the last part because of massive spoilers though lol. There are multiple gray factions in the world as well.

Loved the entire series of books. Read, and re-read the entire series many times. I'm both excited and scared aboout the TV series, mainly because turning books into a movie or series has this habit of screwing up the books, but I hope the series remains true to the books. They are brilliant.

The trailer looks amazing. So I am certainly not going to spoil it by reading the books. I'm currently watching Foundation on Apple TV+, and I have previously read the books many times. They're the best sci-fi there is. I didn't trust them to make the TV series good, but I didn't think I'd be that disappointed. It isn't Asimov's Foundation, but an entirely different story. It seems that viewers that hasn't read the books are impressed, while those who have are mostly thoroughly disappointed. So lesson learned, I'll read these books after, if ever.

Like you, I was reluctant to commit to the daunting task of reading Robert Jordan’s 15 (with prequel) magnum opus. But, I was very entertained by the audio books. I have listened to the entire series more times than I care to admit. Michael Kramer and Kate Reading do a masterful job of bringing this immense story to life. As a retired veteran with sever tedious, I spend much of my time listening to audiobooks and this series is one of my favorites. For anyone that does not have the time to commit to such a vast read, I recommend that they try the audiobooks. You will not be sorry.

I have read all the way up to the Knife of Dreams. Where, admittedly I quit the story. To say Robert Jordan is OCD is a vastly underrated term. He made me feel like this story was only for me. I felt like a keeper of this trove of information that only he and I knew. The details I still carry with me as if etched into the glass framework of my brain. When Mr. Jordan passed I felt a huge pang of loss and sadness. Learning of the television adaption I am at odds weather or not to pick up the books again. I am also hesitant to watch the series for fear that my expectations would not be met. Since 1994 this affair has persisted for me. More than half a life time. Only overshadowed by the Star Wars Verse.

Interesting trailer. Nice intro for the uninitiated. Considering that the books are all close to 1000 pages or more, there is a WHOLE lot more going on. But, to show it visually in a series or movie, they will have to simplify it. Jordan ties in a lot of concepts from different religions and philosophies, and it will be interesting to see how they cover some of the more controversial ones later in the series. There is a lot of talk of prophecies in the beginning and also the concept of ta'veren - individuals capable of changing the pattern to their will (pre-destination vs. free will). The details of the world and the characters are incredibly deep and I really hope that this show can bring them to life. I recently have been re-buying the books and listening to them in audio-book form. As you get further into the series, you will see the story told from the view of a male and a female - and the audiobooks stay true to that with a male and female narrator alternating for the different chapters. I think that the graphics and animation of Moiraine's magic use look really incredible. Jordan is extremely descriptive in his books. You'll sometimes see a spoken line, then have to work through a page of nothing but description or background/history on the topic before moving on. I hope that the script, character development, acting, and pacing make it a good series. There are 14 books altogether, starting in 1990 with the final novel (Memory of LIght) published in 2013 by Brian Sanderson. If you love Tolkien, you'll see some similarities, but there are enough differences that set it worlds apart. All of us fans of Jordan's work sincerely hope for this series to be an awesome success! It's truly an epic fantasy that deserves your time and attention!

I absolutely loved these books. I am excited to see the TV series. I always hoped that someone would make this into a movie series or TV series. There is too much for a movie trilogy, a TV series is more realistic.. but if it were to be cancelled, that would be a shame. I am curious as to how true to the original books the series adheres to. There are very few one-dimensional characters in the novels, hence the enormous length of each book in the series. The novels are well worth the time to read and I am hoping that the tv series Amazon is putting together will also be time well spent.

The sheer number of volumes can be really daunting, and the history may become difficult to follow at some points. However, it is a quintessential read for all the epic fantasy lovers out there. It must be a HUGE task to adapt the whole epic for TV, there are so many protagonists/antagonists over the course of the series, and the visual effects needed must be extended at times. I really REALLY hope they do it justice, just as they have done with the expanse book series (so far).

Always thought that the Wheel of Time should be made into a TV series. But what you showed of the trailer tells me that it should have been done by someone with an appreciation for artistic integrity. I haven't seen a single episode, and yet it is obvious that they have butchered the vision of Robert Jordan. That doesn't mean that it won't be worth watching, but it won't be an accurate representation of the books, which are outstanding.

One thing to remember, the plotline (a nobody that learns that they are the chosen one and is destined to fight against evil) may be incredibly watered down at this point, BUT as pointed out in the beginning, this series started in 1990. Old Reader of the Books here, and without wanting to spoiler anything, there's one point the "Uninitiated" need to understand: the world there is cycical. Meaning, there are patterns to the world, and prophecies are more than just words, they have a likelihood to come to pass. The Dragon reborn is said to save the world while breaking it anew. The last Breaking of the world, at the end of the age of Legens is still of horrid memory, thus people fear the very idea of the Dragon Reborn. In "New Spring" (which I recommend you read, because it gives you Moraines journey and how she got involved) Moraine thinks that no woman will ever admit to her son being born on Dragonmount, because everyone knows that aspect of the prophecies: the Dragon will be reborn, where he died at the end of the last age: on Dragonmount. There is an aspect of fear, that permeates that element of the story. There Dragon is their only chance at Tarmon Gai'don but the prohecies do not promise victory and warn of the destruction the dragon will bring.

A few things (And I've read the series 14+ times, so I know it reeeeally well) 1.) It's not only "certain women" that are aloud to use magic; those born with the spark is sought out and brought to the tower where they learn to wield the Power, but "wilders" as women that is self taught to wield it can do so as they please, since they have survived learning on their own (a 1 in 4 chance) 2.) Rand is prophisised to save and destroy humanity, not save OR destroy.... He will do both! The annoying thing with the show is things like the castings: Moraine is surposed to be really short; so is Egwene and Nyaneve, but they are not so in the show! They also made every casting very dark skinned compaired to how the different countriues population is described; Siuan Sanche; the Amyrlin Seat has ice blue eyes, that is important later in the series, but in the show she's dark skinned with dark brown eyes; come on!

9:43 also keep in mind that the two rivers is isolated and extremely traditional. "wisdom" is one word for the village healer that is used a few other places in their world, but it doesn't appear to be that common. wise woman is more common although we don't get a close enough look at village politics in most cases to gauge the authority of such women outside the two rivers. we meet one in tear who is very respected locally, in her neighborhood in the city, and beyond that who knows. we see in ebou-dar proto-aes'sedai. in amadecia they don't have wisdoms or wise women or anything remotely like that, they have hedge doctors who are all men because whitecloaks are kinda the physical manifestation of the taint on the one power, so in amadecia women have little to no power. you could call them the mens right's advocates of the world if you really want to punch someone who claims to be that, because the whitecloaks as an organization are almost completely nonredeemable (they wear white cloaks because they are sheep in my opinion, changing the leadership doesn't fix the problem). but to get back to the point being made with this timestamp, the two rivers and the title "wisdom" does not represent the world of the wheel of time even close to as a whole and is just itself a small detail in a very detailed fictional world.

I have read first 11 books of the series but couldn't get myself to finish it. By the book 8 and after there were so many secondary non-essential characters and so little time dedicated to protagonists that it started to bother me. In later books that I read I caught myself on skipping pages and pages of descriptions and talks among non-essential Aes Sedai and basically looking for glimpses of main protagonists. The synopsis for the end of series written by another author was a huge disappointment. I won't spoil it here but it ended like a soap opera. One more thing. I will indeed give a TV series a try. My most favorite among 5 young protagonists in books was Nynaeve al'Meara. SPOILERs: For me she is the most powerful Ajah b/c she found a way to heal the gentling and reconnect people to power that everybody thought of never reversible. I really hope the makers of these tv series won't screw her character. I didn't care much about Rand and his multiple love interests (which I still don't get why so many and what was really a purpose of introduction of them. To bring powerful tribes on your side to fight the Dark One you don't need to sleep with each female representative of them) or other young men. But I was seriously invested in stories of Egwene and Nynaeve.

I am so happy that you will be covering this show. Sadly another set of books I have sadly not read. The idea of dragons and/or their symbolism seems to be visited by so many fantasy books. So here it looks like a combination of massive world building, legends and myths reminiscent of Tolkien, GRRM and Sapkowski. It's time there was another decent show instead of the Marvel crap of late. Also the early reviews for Dune are incredibly positive. So at last a decent SciFi film as well.
