Thanks for another great video! I have seen that for instance Park Tool in their videos have stressed that it is important to measure the spoke tension in the middle of the spoke. This is because that's where the spoke will deflect the most, since it's the furthest from the “fixed” points (the hub and the nipple respectively). If you measure the spoke closer to either end, the reading should be higher for the same spoke tension. In your opinion, is it a good idea to measure it closer to the nipples, so that it is easier to measure from the same point of the spoke (like in this video)? Or should you measure in the middle, so that different spoke lengths do no result in (too) different tension readings? I hope it makes sense…

13:41 is gospel. I wish more people in more fields and in relation to more specific issues would give this advice: "when it's good enough, stop"

This method is genius. Thank you.

Thanks. :) Though I believe Einstein and Tesla fans would disagree about the "genius" part, it does work pretty well. :)

I like the way you explain things, i was wondering if you had made a cleaning and lubing, i have been watching some videos on other channels, and i feel like they don't explain the why's and stuff well enough

I wrote an article about chain cleaning and lubing (text + images): bike.bikegremlin.com/44/best-bicycle-chain-lube/ And a more "general" basic check/tune/clean video on the world's most dirty bike (my winter hack): :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXnKpWmcgpukh5o

Love most of your video. The explanation is more towards the real thing on bicycle maintenance. Very honest to share your experience. By the way, your spoke tensioner meter was good, spot on easy to read, may i know what is the brand?

The tension meter is custom made. Here is more info on where it can be bought: bike.bikegremlin.com/11876/bicycle-wheelbuilding-tools/#8

48:32 When you loosened the adjacent spoke the tightness of the other spoke actually increased on the tensiometer and didn't loosen like you said??

That's how it looks like in the video. It could have been my mistake when holding the instrument.

I have a question. Why do you need a dishing tool if you have a quality calibrated truing stand? Aren't the caliper arms in that case considered as "symmetrical guides"?
@BikeGremlinUS2 жыл бұрын
It's more accurate and more precise to use the dishing gauge. Because it is moved from one side to the other when measuring by comparison, it shows the size of the dishing imperfection as doubled. Truing stands, even when calibrated, are inferior tools for that, in practice - at least in my opinion and experience. Dishing gauge is a tool that can relatively easily be improvised, and I recommend using it.

A bit too long for my taste - but no one prevents me from making a condensed version. However, I wanted to make a detailed version first, to cover all the common problems and thoroughly explain. I.e. as I would have liked to have had it explained as a kid. :)

"Dishing gauge"; "gauge" is pronounced with the "auge" part sounding like "age".
