He really thought the PD wasn't going to do anything to him, he really thought he was going to get away w/ lying about it, & he's still trying to. For real. I work as security, we had this blind man come into the mall to shop. That's fine. Issue was he wanted a security officer to be his escort for the day, as in hold onto that person's shoulder, etc. Unfortunately, we are not trained to accommodate that. This was also just after covid lockdown. When my supervisor at the time told him we couldn't do that and he needed a guide or family to assist. He kinda threw a tantrum and started purposefully walking around and bumping into tables and people inside the apple store. My boss was on the verge of just having the guy trespassed, but I felt bad. So I helped walk him over to sears. Unfortunately, again, since I wasn't trained to accommodate someone completely blind. All I could do was help him get to a clothing store where an employee helped him out.
@jessw9794
@jessw9794 Ай бұрын
@BronzedBeast I can imagine. I used to work in insurance, & in the 5 states I was licensed in you could have been setting yourself up for a lawsuit, too. If you were just trying to be nice & guiding him around at his request or even his insistence & something happened, he could sue & win! It's all messed up--you may need extra help if you're disabled, but that may mean you have extra responsibilities, too. And insurance is crooked & that's why I don't work it anymore, lol!

@@anti-ethniccleansing465 While it turned out to be the case this time, don't just assume that because someone does that. Some people just have a difficult time looking into other people's eyes when they talk. I am looking everywhere but at the person because I feel so awkward when I stare at them when I do. Idk, it makes me uncomfortable. But that doesn't mean I'm lying. But in this case, yeah, he's totally lying. That's called an eye blocking gesture or something like that. Meaning that he's blocking eye contact because he's lying. So, I mean, you do have a point. I'm just saying. You also have to take into consideration their normal facial movements and gestures anyway before making a call like that. But still, in general, I would assume the person was lying when seeing that.

I work with a lot of people in wheelchairs. Believe me, that sh!t hurts when you get rammed into by one of the power chairs. They weigh up to 250lbs, not including the body weight of the individual in the chair. Catch a footrest to your ankle or Achilles tendon, and you're going to limping for a minute, haha. Even manual wheelchairs can do damage.

I use a powerchair, and it's even heavier than your bog standard one as it had adaptations added. I've fallen sideways off a kerb into the road and I can tell you, even being sat in it, I had damage to my arm, and a bruise and lump so deep in my leg it took over a week to come to the top and it was already green and yellow. These chairs hurt like heck. Never mind the damage they can do to walls and door frames if they're not widened. Ah the decorating costs lol. Not only that but these controls, the joystick, are so sensitive a featherlight touch can have it moving.
@JasonQuests
@JasonQuests Ай бұрын
Quadriplegic here. My chair and I weigh about 500 pounds, and I am only 5 foot five and got a bit of a belly with skinny limbs. Those chairs are heavy and the electric motors are strong. I've had accidents where attendants using my Controls have pinned themselves against walls or ran over their feet and it definitely injures them. The girl stuck against the wall had to have someone else come over and free her since I couldn't use my controls at a time. As for his hilarious arrest, it's hilarious because he's fool. He needs to be restrained, so disconnecting his controls or disconnecting his battery is warranted. He also used his chair as a weapon, so he should be deprived of its use. And I guarantee you even he joked about just riding on the flatbed. And he's not embarrassed. That's just depression sinking in as he realized all the pain and boredom coming his way by being transferred to a stretcher, being driven to jail, most likely staying on the stretcher in jail, and then somehow getting back home. It is a shame the officers couldn't work out someway of him and his mother surrendering them selves to the jail, which would allow her to drive them down to the jail in the van. Disabled people who lie and are professional victims are the worst.

@@DerpDevilDD "unless" that's a pretty major weasel word. look up the testimony of people arguing that they do not help. The big issue is that money is being spent on body cams which very often have a negative effect on the case regardless of the actual events. In theory, body cam footage is easy to access and doesn't have tampering issues. But in practice the reality shows that body cam footage is not a panacea against police brutality. So often, people will use legislation requiring body cams as an example of policing being more responsible which means that less money needs to be spent on improving public relations in the future. I'm not facing this off of conspiracy theories, I am basing this off of the idea that people interacting with the police should have their stories heard

@@Slyfoxx Because basically everything reported initially was wrong. Both the original reports and the first updates to those reports got the story wrong. At the time of the first court hearing Corey Harris never had a drivers license. He did have his driving privileges suspended at one point (this sounds weird, but is possible even without a license), but by the time of the court hearing he was eligible to have them reinstated and obtain his drivers license, for the first time ever, but he just never went and got a license. Why he never went and got his license who knows. In some states driving while suspended is worse than never getting a license in the first place, but that isn't true in Michigan. The punishment for a first time offense is the same either way, imprisonment for not more than 93 days or a fine of not more than $500.00, or both. I don't know if he fined him, but from what I know he didn't add anymore jail time ( he bonded out after the initial court hearing after like 2 days). Maybe he fined him $500, maybe less, maybe zero idk. But I imagine the judge probably thought he had paid enough because of the public attention. Apparently he was harassed, attacked, not to mention publicly shamed throughout the world and his only real crime was not going to the DMV.

Dude was always purposely running into people, and would basically dare people to do anything because he was (legally) paraplegic. He could use all his limbs but he had some kind of muscle and nerve issue that made it so he couldn’t actually walk without crutches (which he refused to use, I actually saw this happen, he sat down and just refused to move until they brought him his chair) or use his arms normally.
