Should have sleeved the block instead of boring a engine that is notorious for cracking liners... This is a ticking time bomb for a cracked liner.

Standard engines dont crack liners unless thicko owners ragged them from cold, far more likely to see it on ones thatve been badly remapped with the turbo actuator turned way up beyond safe limits. They can bend rods and spin big end bearings if mistreated or lack regular maintenance too, doesnt mean theyll all do it though.

Mine was standard and it cracked a liner. I bought a linered refurbed engine there's a reason block mods are pretty much a essential for these engines.

Replacing?? This is clearly overhaulin and not replacing. Replacing meens that you buy a whole new engine, and overhoulin meens that you Refurbish the old engine.

Probably overhall is the new replace. We don't take engines in and out like we used to. In the 80s n 90s I was always taking them in and out, I've got a brand new engine lift I've had 15 years, I've used it once to hold an engine on a SAAB while I took the gearbox off 👍

The 83mm liners on this was super thin to begin with . Yet he bored it ? Stuck new pistons init . How long before the liners crack

Was wondering the same myself as there is not a lot of meat in those liners...seen u tube vids where they are fitting forged pistons ect but never seem to mention if they are to do anything with the cylinders apart from honing for the new rings...if scored/worn beyond honing to guarantee a lasting job I would have thought you would need to go down the Darton Liners route which with machining and fitting the liners is about £3k...then new pistons and rings assuming the crank is in tolerance new bearings gaskets..head bolts..cam belt kit ect and assuming you are doing the rest yourself you might be lucky to get some change out of £5k..but then you have an engine that will last...

@richardmessenger9474 ford ruin everything I'm a volvo man myself had two 2.5 t5s running over 380bhp they never cracked a liner. Then had 2.4 t5 in s60 which is probably best engine volvo ever made. But I'm currently on c70 t5 b5234t9 swapped the rods now im making a safe 440bhp the 2.3 is the way to go 81mm bores and thick liners . Volvo for life .

Reference my last on Darton top hat liners I've just found that DB performance will bore out and fit ductile liners bring it back to standard bore. You take the bare block they will bore and fit liners at a cost of £1,6457 Inc vat..which would probably be the best way to go if you have a cracked liner..

I have owned a couple ST225 focus's and I love them. These are common problems with these motors but they are awesome cars. Don't forget that they don't have to pay labour fees like anyone else would. This kind of work would cost the owner hundreds , if not thousands, of pounds in fitters fees. Unless this car had crazy millage like less then 50k it would be worth 4k MAX in the ST225 community. Plus the stickers look 💩

More like get it custom mapped instead of toying with off the shelf flash maps. Mines running 350bhp since 2019 on standard internals, had the block mod done on it in 2018

Sounds similar to a whistling noise and some smoke on one I had to diagnose it you pull the dipstick out and it should stop the noise… turns out it was a new oil separator diaphragm/valve

whoever bought that car was ripped off if they charged over what they spent on it. you can still get these for 3500 is good nick. i paid 3600 3 years ago for mine and its still worth the same now lol. awesome cars though and they will eventually shoot up in price but i think it will be a long time yet before they do

How do you tell if its valve guides/seals burning oil and not piston/bore issues? I dnt have that fancy stuff to measure compression in the cylinder

Sorry guys, but some parts of this video was a tad painful to watch & hear. The liners do not "chatter" they crack. When the leak down test was being performed you had the perfect opportunity to check the valves too, by listening to sound from the exhaust (exhaust valves) and the plenum or throttle body (inlet valves) Seeing the driving section of the video, it smoked when letting off the throttle, ideally the turbo should have been checked first, they're famous for the thrust bearing failing and smoke on let off of the throttle, hopefully you changed the valve stem seals too 😊 Going back to the "slither of metal" those things are known as a block mod, these are to help reduce the likelihood of the liners from cracking (again famous for it) They're already weak liners as they are, boring a stock ST liner isn't exactly a good choice, you can get away with it on an RS block though. I'm not trying to teach a grandad how to suck eggs here guys, but i hope you did a warm engine compression test too, both wet and dry. All engines have a bit of blow by, that's the oil filter housings job to deal with (or breather system) I think viewers would have been much happier seeing the gauge reading of the leak down test to confirm there's a significant loss of air. The gauge (if set correctly to zero and not just throwing 2 bar at it) will tell you if it's within tolerance. That's why the testers have 2 gauges, some with marked areas saying "set, green, yellow, red or a percentage on some" and probably best to do on a warm engine allowing those rings to expand, as you know all rings have a ring gap. I'm not trying to be smart here guys, i'm just a guy with a socket set and some axle stands 😂 but a lot of important information is missing from this video ☹️

Hello! Hope someone can help me! I have a focus ST 2006 that has a new engine and everything works nice besides it goes very strange under acceleration. I have new driveshafts, both sides ( good replacement but not original). Only when I accelerate that I goes very uneven, espacally in 2:nd and 3:d gear, but you can feel it in all gears. What can it be? Please Help all ST pros!!!!

@@Peter2meter if it's lowered you don't want to fit Ford original shafts..after fitting 4 pairs of replacement drive shafts ..I decided to contact our local Ford dealer and they wanted £500 quid each and wanted the old ones back..sounds like the alleged new ones are in actual fact reburbed units by Ford and if your car is lowered and they don't fit them or you have an approved garage fit them with vat receipt there is no warranty....various ST Specialist garages all recommend Ford Originals but they are always shown as fitted to cars not lowered....the driveshafts you want for a lowered or uprated ST are modified and are 8mm longer and are fitted with CV joints both ends not the tripod joint type at the transmission end.....I have tried a number of shafts only for them to go after a very short period..this last pair have been in nearly a year and no vibration unlike all the others that shit themselves withing weeks..just my 2p worth...👍👍

Future classic? There will be none of these left, every single owner has ran pop and bang maps split the liners and otherwise thrashed the shit out of them to the point there is none left. I want to buy a written off mk2 st so I can have the engine to put in my cmax, but either the engine is fucked or they want STUPID money for the car.

Right, I’m going to stop you there. This car will never be a classic because it is on a Volvo platform. The ST 170 Ford focus is going to be a classic because that is a genuine Ford platform and it is a lot older than the mk2 focus You do not have a classic car there mate. If it was an ST 170 then you would have a classic car. There is only technically one genuine Ford ST focus and it is the mark one.

There werent any engine changes made to the ST from 2004-2011, only the RS had a stronger block and higher lift cams in the head.

@@lastexile1187 I can’t find it now, but I had a 2006 st focus years ago, i never had an issue but apparently tuned versions would crack the head, the advice for buying at the time was to buy the 2008 as they got the cylinder head intended for use with the RS . I traded it in for a 1.6 ecoboost Mondeo 🤓 then swiftly bought a Mk3 ST Anyway sure I read that In a Fast Ford magazine. But 🤷‍♂️ I’m not arguing
