Here in the US, 95% of our meathead consumers don't go offroading, but buy 4 wheel drive vehicles like they are prepping for a 40 day safari. The minivan should suit most here just fine.

A "plus-size SUV"? (0:20) Everyone keeps saying that, but externally it's only marginally larger than the new Toyota Kluger to be released here sometime this year. Length +30mm Width +45mm Height +20 Wheelbase +50 But somehow it's bigger inside. How did Hyundai do that?

@@fcex558 Thanks for your comprehensive answer. My question was aimed more at the Wheels Australia team who prepared this "review". They didn't do their homework and judged the Palisade on its appearance rather than its actual dimensions. Calling it a "plus-size SUV" scares away people who might otherwise put it on their shortlist. The Palisade is certainly on my shortlist. We get just two engine/transmission options in Australia: V6 2WD or 2.2L turbo diesel FWD, both with the same 8-speed auto. I'd be choosing the diesel due to petrol prices here. FWD is not on my must-have list; no snow where I live and good roads where I travel. For these reasons the diesel Carnival makes sense as well; more space, greater interior flexibility with the removable second row. Kia also comes with a 7-year warranty versus 5-year for Hyundai. Unfortunately the Carnival was rushed to market here without auto wipers and without the in-dash blind-spot camera. It sounds like you're satisfied with the Palisade. What did you have before the Hyundai? Stay safe and watch out for the black ice and of course COVID.

The difference in ground clearance between the two is 3cm - pretty much insignificant really.

I will never buy another Kia. Period. We contacted the Kia Corporate office to help with an issue we had after our car broke down on the side of the interstate 2 times after being serviced at 2 different Kia dealerships, Langdale Kia in Valdosta and Crown Kia in Saint Petersburg. Kia Corporate gave us the run around, telling us they would send our service request upper management to have it approved. After 3 weeks, they finally told us that no our car wasn’t under warranty! What?! It’s like they didn’t even read what we submitted. Kia doesn’t know how to fix their own vehicles and doesn’t care if they break down multiple times. This has been a horrible experience. Now we have a car we own that can’t be repaired since Kia doesn’t even know how to fix it.

@@asfdafasdfwfrg it seems it's more of a dealership or corporate which depends on region than issues with the actual vehicle.. all vehicle manufacturers get some gremlins from time to time, was it in or outside warranty and what model vehicle

@@asfdafasdfwfrg kia and hyundai management are both shit. A hyundai dealder stole my tires (replaced my good condition tires with worn out ones of different size!). Hyundai just shrugged and said "meh"

Was all set to go carnival now that it's in the USA, but no AWD and NO SUNROOF unless you go top trim, which I would be happy to do, but then I can't remove the second row seats which I need to do to haul my toys. But I will say Kia really has a winner once they fix those 2 items. Love the volume with 2nd and 3rd row seats removed or down. Palisade is the winner for me in every category, but just more limited on space.

This would be a blowout if Kia didn't skimp out on AWD, which I feel they did to not steal too many sales from the Telluride/Palisade.

if you don't mind spending money on petrol (like say, drives it locally and occasionally long distance), V6 is a nice one to have, diesel is a little slugish and loud

Is it truly an 8 seater? I find most that state this are really only 6 seaters. I have 6 kids. I currently drive a 12 passenger van. Love it but looking for some more comfort factors

I have the previous model of the carnival and I soooo want this 2021 model… it looks mean AF ! School runs are the best in this car. I have 4 kids, older kids sit at the back. Younger kids middle row, adult at the front haha.

Pallisade top spec is $80k incl on roads. Carnival top spec is $70k.. big difference.

Well, I think the comparison was a bit unfair? Take out the highlander one and you will have all wheel drive, power tailgate, heated and ventilated seats, sun roof, and so much more tech, also the last row will feel a bit less claustrophobic. I think, then the comparison would be more biased.

Carnival is too long for standard parking space in tight garages and some of Westfield shopping malls. Under 5m is a lot easier. Palisade needs petrol 4wd to sell. Highlander trim has some nice touches but can't have black seats.

This is a fair comparison between your 8-seater options at $60k range - It's stated multiple times if you prefer the Hyundai and want more kit you can spend more money and get a Palisade Highlander.
