At 4:07, I like how you explain the blunder. It's not just that Magnus overlooked that the black Knight is protected by the Queen. He intended to fork King and Queen with Qxg4 Qxg4 and then Nxh6 (note that the board is set up incorrectly). His blunder was failing to recognize that Qxg4 by black is actually a check. Nice video!
@jaybingham3711
@jaybingham3711 Жыл бұрын
Yes a temporary loss of his Q that would have netted him a free N via a royal fork (recapturing black's Q) had it not been subverted by the inbetween check. MC had to play fast as he was giving away huge time odds: 30s v 3m. All human players, MC included, will mess up a fair amount when down to just a few ticks left on clock. Still crazy he overlooked it. I suspect A would never claim he outplayed MC. In one sense, he 'beat' him. But he didn't beat 'beat' him. Time odds ftw! Fun...but not really personally satisfying. Incredible story to share (embellish) though amongst your friends.

To shed some light on Carlsen's perspective, he was probably feeling a lot of pressure, while the other guy had nothing to lose. He only had 30 secs so he had to beat him FAST. Since he made even 1 mistake, it would be near impossible for him to catch up and beat him before the clock runs out.

The thing about being a beginner is that they don't have a strategy like someone advanced, so the beginner's can't be always predicted. I am sure he lost a lot of games against amateurs when he has only 30 seconds. You literally cannot think with 30 seconds and even a player like Magnus is bound to blunder when the position gets complicated and he has around 10 seconds for the entire rest of the game. Thats just very unsurprising.

@@jonathanparle8429 Well there are different types of "proper" chess. The skills you need for the time controls are not the same but they are there no matter the time controls. For example Bullet chess tests intuition a lot while intuition is almost worthless in classical chess. Classical chess tests patient and deep thinking while deep thinking is almost worthless in Bullet chess. They really just have a different focus but they require the same amount of skill. What chess is about is different for anyone. It's not like there is one answer for it. That's why many people prefer Classical chess and others prefer Bullet chess. It's just a different nature of game. And that's what I think was forgotten here.

Lol. Ngl, I think the Ruy Lopez is the last opening I'd try against a GM. Not because it's bad, just because I'd assume they'd know it 9 times better than me. Edit: lol, let me rephrase, they'd know all of them better than me, but the ruy Lopez far far far better compared to other options.

First off it was just a casual friendly game, hence why Magnus had 30 seconds to 3 minutes for his opponent to give the opponent a better chance and make it more difficult for Magnus since Magnus would have no problem beating anyone at that bar with 3 minutes on the clock. Second, his opponent is nowhere near a beginner, in fact he is definitely way above average and knows what he is doing especially considering it's a blitz game. A beginner would have made a mistake by move 4 and blundered the game before move 10.

That one blunder due to time pressure blundered the match. Plus, the dude seemed to have some good opening prep, so probably not an amateur? They played pretty well, it's just one blunder.
