When you said Oprah liked this author, that was a red flag to me even though I had never heard of her, or her books before. Oprah is VERY New Age. When Oprah was still doing her show she said, "There are many roads to G-d..." A woman on the stage disagreed and said something about Jesus being the Way. Oprah immediately shut her down and went to commercial. I never watched her show again.

@@HarryNicNicholasOf all the religions you listed, and even the ones you did not, ONLY Christianity offers a relationship with God, through Jesus Himself. John 3:3 "In reply Jesus declared, 'I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born again'" None of us has what it takes to enter Heaven. John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that WHOEVER believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." There is NO limitation on who God sent Jesus to die for and Christianity in its purist form is the only religion that doesn't base peace with God entirely on what WE do. It isn't all about us. It is all about Jesus. My relationship with Jesus is what compels me to to DO the best I can to help others but it is my faith in His death and resurrection and that He is Jesus, the Son of God and One with God, that saves me from the inevitable result of my own sins.(hell).

We both freely give to each other and it's wonderful!

Thank you for this episode. Hope your mom is doing better. Now to the book. It seemed to me several years ago that there was something amiss in the church but I couldn't put my finger on it. Since then it has become clear that the gospel has become me-centered rather than God-centered. Immersing myself in the Bible has cleared up a lot. It is like handling real dollar bills a lot, then when a counterfeit is inserted into the mix it is recognizable. We really need to be Bereans.

Great dialogue and discussion on very important modern day Church theology here. Also brings to mind sermons by the late David Wilkersons on what he called the seeker friendly last days Church. I believe this ties in with scriptures on the great falling away prior to the man of sin being revealed in the book of Thessalonians. Bottom line is, who sits on the throne of a believers heart, Christ or Self, a crossless Church is a powerless Church, Persecutions are at the doorstep of the Spiritually Sleeping Modern day Christians.

Why do women want to be "fierce" "wild" and "untamed"? The opposite of Jesus teachings of gentleness, obedience, and self-abnegation.
@ds29912 Жыл бұрын
Because these come with the promise of true fulfillment. " False promise". They prey on the proclivity of women to be emotional rather than logical.
@umbrellathegreatdetective5423 Жыл бұрын
I understand your line of questioning, and those things are all true. But a lot of women want to be "fierce", "wild", and "untamed" for the same reason men do. Submission is hard and contrary to our sin nature. Being continually submissive is hard, understanding what you ought to be submissive to is also hard, and perseverance is hard. So, just like any other sin, sometimes it's really difficult to keep from falling into the sin of wanting to be wild and untamed. Especially when so many women are used/abused by men and feel like they're suffocating, and because obedience can be excruciatingly hard, the idea of "something good for me shouldn't hurt so bad" may come to them. And sometimes they're right. Sometimes spouses ARE being abusive and they SHOULD free themselves because he's handed himself over to complete lawlessness toward her. So many readers of this book are divorced or unhappy in their marriages. Once a woman who has been in an abusive relationship is finally free of it, it seems very difficult to uproot these desires to be free and wild and untamed, because to her, these desires saved her life. As for women who aren't abused, but just hurting, that's usually the very reason why they want freedom; they're hurting when they obey the Lord. That hurt causes temptation to sin, especially when she doesn't seek him in her obedience. Obviously, women can fall into these sins for more trivial reasons than deep hurt, but I just wanted to throw in my two cents so that people don't forget that these are real women who read this books. Real women with real struggles. Sometimes sinners aren't as shallow as you might think, and it takes a little more than just pointing out their wrong to help change their heart; a lot of people get tempted in all manners of ways because they're deeply hurting. When you call our their sin and try to direct them toward truth, they want you to take them seriously. That's no excuse to sin, but it does require that those who come around them show a little sympathy from time to time.
@leenieledejo6849 Жыл бұрын
@@umbrellathegreatdetective5423 Well reading the Bible for yourself rather than taking for granted what other people (purposely false teachers) tell you will help! The phrase "sin nature" is NOT in the Bible! It is a horrendously wrong translation of the Greek word "sarki", which simply means "flesh". It is translated faithfully and consistently as "flesh" in the KJV (and apparently the NASB) but in some corrupt modern versions it is correctly translated as "flesh" in passages like Mark 10 ("the two become one flesh") and 1st John 4:2-3 ("Jesus Christ came in the flesh") but *WRONGFULLY* rendered "sin nature" in Paul's epistles. The "sarki" is not bad in itself. God created it. Jesus came in it! (1st John 4:2-3 again). It is weak which is why Jesus says "ye MUST be born of the Spirit" in John 3 but it is NOT "sinful" in itself. Sin is a CHOICE. I suggest you type "Jason Staples NIV sin nature" into a search engine to see more about this issue and how the NIV (bowing to their Augustinian Calvinist original translators-with-an-agenda) refused to change their misleading and blasphemous mistranslation. MANY seminaries are Augustinian Calvinist and use the NIV hence many "pastors" use it and many church goers accept it as truth. If you WANT to be born of the Spirit, crucify the flesh (as all regenerate Christians - the only kind: John 1:12-13 - have: see Galatians 2:20) and walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5 & 6 ) then the only way to do so is to allow God to do it by transforming you through His Word. It's Scripture (especially the New Testament) that confronts and convicts and brings hidden sins and idols to the fore, eventually leading to Godly repentance (2 Corinthians 7) and regeneration. A Christian is defined in John 1:12-13 as regenerate (born of the Spirit/born of God) and having the Holy Spirit indwelling (Romans 8:9). [There is NO example of a half carnal, half spiritual person in Scripture]. "The carnal mind is at enmity with God and those who walk in the flesh cannot please Him. To be carnally minded is death but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. If anyone does not have the spirit of Christ then he does not belong to him" (Romans 8:5-8)

I totally agree. Many people do not having lasting relationships, because they do not know what love truly is. Love is about accepting a person, but does not necessarily mean they support, agree with or approve of their behavior. This is why many marriages fail and family members grow apart; because they expect the other person to accept everything they do, even if it’s wrong or bad for them. I can still love someone and not agree with their lifestyle choices. God loves the sinner, but hates the sin.

We have a righteousness motivated and fueled by "self" and apart from the Spirit of the Living God. We're snacking and smacking on the tree of the knowledge of good and evil that God told Adam and Eve not to eat from!!! The problem is not that people focus too much on God's attribute of LOVE, because He is LOVE. The problem is with the English word itself. We can spend all our time focused on His LOVE if we like, just make sure our focus is on the correct word AGAPPE. God AGAPPE the world in this way, that He gave us His only begotten Son! If we kept our focus on AGAPPE it would take us on a journey to the cross and if our were open to understand it, our hearts would break as we watch Him die, telling us moments before that He forgives us! He wants us to want Him, to be with Him, to choose Him. That is His Love. It is a sacrifice of the self for the object of the one being loved. The opposite of this world's definition.

Commercials just give me too much time to formulate a comment. So I'm commenting only 14 minutes in. But I was amazed to hear that "Christians are shocked" by this "I Am" theology. Oprah has been practicing hers for how many years now? Didn't ya'll know that once upon a time Oprah actually was a person who went to a regular Baptist church? Okay, not everyone saw Oprah in the early years. That's cool. I guess I forget there are many Christians who have been Christians since childhood. I was raised by a Christian family but the second I saw out the front door, I was out of that mess. Of course, mine was a household as a child where my dad was a wannabe warlock practicing Satanism while mom was a 5th generation Episcopalian. They found their ultimate agreement in the Charismatic movement. I was dragged along against my vocalized will. So I was never really a Christian. It wasn't something I chose. I would just like to say that for the next 35 years, I went to the ultimate church of "I am God" commonly known as therapy. I tell you, there is nothing that will encourage putting yourself on the throne of at least your own life more than therapy. So to me, this is nothing new. I'm about 7 1/2 years old as a Christian. An actually saved-by-God and believe-the-Bible Christian now. I say to the left wing of Christianity "Bye bye now, don't let the door hit your backside too hard as you leave!" meanwhile antsy for them all to just GET OUT! Either be a Bible confessing Christian or stop calling yourselves Christians! I can't wait for them to do that. Okay. Sorry. Rant done. Love this, and will now go listen to the rest in jaw-dropped amazement -- or not. Addition after watching full video: that was good. And yes, we need to practice praying for any and all people who we find to be opposite us in life, aka "enemies" because this is the only way to be Christ-like. Christ died for His enemies. He wept over Jerusalem who rejected Him and crucified Him. We were all His enemies from birth. If we don't pray for our enemies now, we'll get hearts encased by stone, and I have to tell you from long sad experience, that is not a good place to be at all. And you won't make it through persecution that way. Great show.

@@lark8356 Hi, thanks for your reply. Would you be ok keeping the discussion here on youtube so others can chime in? Just a disclaimer I am not here to win a debate I just struggle with a lot of evangelical beliefs on atonement theories, inerrancy of scripture, original sin ect. I am curious why many evangelicals emphasize so much priority on obtaining correct belief over loving thy neighbor like Jesus? I have a good hunch why but I would like to hear from those that hold to those beliefs.

ooohhh man, this sounds exactly like the horrible 'path of self discovery' my husband is going down that will hurt our family so much if he continues. I don't think he's read this book specifically but the ideas you outline here are very much what he's grasping at and it's so twisted and harmful. He claims he's doing better than ever, but I don't see good attributes increasing in him, I see desperate seeking without fulfillment, trying to justify wrong so he can stop feeling guilty, stress, lack of wisdom, pride abounding. It's so hard to witness this god of self rising and feel like there's nothing I can do to stop it. I'm currently reading a book that he asked me to read called 'Sovreign Love' and it's using that capital self which just feels repulsive in my gut. The claims in it are all about how realising your authentic self is the goal and it encourages breaking apart relationships for the sake of that goal - it is so unloving, selfishness is the opposite of love, such a lie maquearading as 'love' - and yet like you said about Untamed, there are bits and pieces that sound good or sensible, you have to really be on guard while reading these kinds of things.

In Matthew 5:27-28 Jesus said, “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Cause for divorce according to Jesus Christ!

This concept that Glennon Doyle is espousing, namely, “if you truly love me, you will accept me in my sin” is ridiculous. Jesus/Yeshua very clearly loved His Jewish brethren, but he called out the priests who were violating Torah and called them a den of thieves and whitewashed tombs! Harsh? Yes, but it made His point. He loved them enough to call them out and tell them the truth. It was definitely not “their truth”. He got them riled up enough that many of them repented and eventually became followers of Him as Messiah. The rest were actively trying to put him to death! Nobody likes their golden calf to be touched, and in this case, Glennon Doyle‘s golden calf is her rebellion and her newfound homosexuality/lesbianism!

The idea of the Self is infinitely expansive. It's not an egotistical thing. It's realizing that there really are no individuals. We are all waves in the same ocean. The ocean is God. Whether or not you think it's true is a different story, but that is what is meant by Self or knowing.

Holy, Holy, Holy, in Hebrew, the word "holy" is interpreted as separated without contact, hence the introduction of God into matter in any form is blasphemy and idolatry, and that's the end of the story.

Jesus said the same thing about us, that we are one with him and God. To know what this means, I suggest that you ask God, not Glennon Doyle. The idea that we are sinful means that we are separate from God, so we must not be sinful. Sin is corrected with punishment or sacrifice if you believe that is why Jesus died on the cross for our sins. But love is not punishment nor is it fear. "There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love." "Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; that they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

We are no longer sinners, but Saints. Our sins do not affect our relationship with God. Our sins were forgiven on the cross and God no longer sees our sins. He sees us as righteous through Jesus. We are already seated in heavenly places, we are Holy and blameless, we are Saints, because we are a new creature.

Numbers 22:20-31... "And God came to Balaam at night and said to him, Since the men have come to call you, rise up; go with them, but only what I speak to you shall you do. . . . And Balaam rose up in the morning and saddled his donkey and went with the rulers of Moab. . . . And God’s anger was kindled because he was going, and the Angel of Jehovah took His stand in the way as an adversary against him. Now he was riding on his donkey, and his two servants were with him. . . . And when the donkey saw the Angel of Jehovah standing in the way with His drawn sword in His hand, the donkey turned aside out of the way and went into the field. And Balaam struck the donkey to turn her back into the way. . . . Then the Angel of Jehovah stood in a narrow path between the vineyards, with a wall on this side and a wall on that side. . . . And when the donkey saw the Angel of Jehovah, she pressed herself against the wall and crushed Balaam’s foot against the wall. So he struck her again. . . . And the Angel of Jehovah went further and stood in a narrow place, where there was no way to turn either to the right or to the left. . . . And when the donkey saw the Angel of Jehovah, she lay down under Balaam. Then Balaam’s anger was kindled, and he struck the donkey with his staff. . . . And Jehovah opened the mouth of the donkey, and she said to Balaam, What have I done to you, that you have struck me these three times? . . . And Balaam said to the donkey, Because you have mocked me! If I had a sword in my hand, I would have killed you by now. . . . And the donkey said to Balaam, Am I not your donkey on which you have ridden all your life to this day? Have I ever been accustomed to do so to you? And he said, No. . . . Then Jehovah opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the Angel of Jehovah standing in the way with His drawn sword in His hand, and he bowed his head and fell on his face." See that... God caused a "...donkey..." to speak... Read it again... "And Jehovah opened the mouth of the donkey..." (Num. 2:28). And what is this "...donkey..."? 2 Peter 2:16... "...But had reproof for his own transgression: a dumb beast of burden, uttering with a man's voice, restrained the madness of the prophet." According to scripture, a donkey is "...a dumb beast of burden...". And God caused this "...a dumb beast of burden..." to speak "...with a man's voice..." and in doing so "...restrained the madness of the prophet." Wonderful... But nothing changed regarding the "...donkey...", and it being "...a dumb beast of burden...". The "...donkey..." speaking, because God"...opened..." its mouth, "...restrained the madness of the prophet..."... But the "...donkey..." remained a "...donkey...". I always enjoy listening to Melissa, as I think she is humble, straightforward, and, to the best of her capacity, fairly honest with what she says. Alisa is a bit more complicated... Possibly because of her background baggage... Her father being who he is... Her career as a Christian singer... The experience she had with her ex-pastor and the "...progressive..." direction he was taking people in... And of course the fame that resulted from her published books, podcasts, etc., etc., etc. Here's what caught my attention with Alisa... I heard her speak strongly against someone who was not holding to biblical scripture... What she said is that Christians have to stand on what biblical scripture presents... And I enjoyed her declaring that to the two other persons - men - who she was speaking with on the podcast. So much so that I went to her website and sent her a message to encourage her along the way that she had spoken about so boldly. And after hearing her that first time, I found her KZbin channel, subscribed, and began listening to her KZbin presentations. Unfortunately... I'm sorry to say... After listening to a few of her video presentations I realized that Alisa is somewhat off in her "...theology..."... Which is understandable... As she simply replaced the error of "...progressive Christianity..." with the error of traditional "... Christianity...". And I say this not to stand in judgment of her... But to simply point out what the truth of the matter is... I believe Alisa wants to speak the truth as presented in the Bible... But is struggling to do so because of who she is surrounding herself with... And this works itself out in her speaking. There is NOTHING good in Glennon Doyle's books... In which she is uplifting natural man to the level of God. To do so is simply the work of the devil... To whom we know our Lord and Savior - remember Him - declared, "...Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me, for you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of men." And that was the disciple, Peter, to whom the Lord was speaking... Yes, Jesus called Pater, "...Satan...". And He did so with no apology. And what would Jesus say to Glennon Doyle, in respect to what she writes in her books, Alisa... Melissa? As we read in biblical scripture... God can cause "...a dumb beast of burden..." to speak "...with a man's voice..." and in doing so "...restrained the madness of the prophet." Anyone can be "...a dumb beast of burden..." who God causes to speak "...with a man's voice..." and in doing so "...restrained the madness of the prophet.". But who wants to be "...a dumb beast of burden...". Especially when we can be a new creation... 2 Corinthians 5:17... "So then if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away; behold, they have become new." The call is to come out of her... Which simply means... Come out of our fallen old man and his love for the way of the world... Which, even as a little leaven... Spoils the whole batch. God has allowed the Roman Catholic religion to remain and thrive on this earth for almost 1,500 years... And yet it is and has always been, an abomination in God's eyes. If Glennon Doyle is an unsaved person, then according to scripture, there is nothing good in her, she's an enemy of God... And yes, she is even a fool, as only a fool says in their heart, “...There is no God...”. And God says, "...They are corrupt and commit abominable deeds...". And if Glennon Doyle is a saved person, and yet speaks what you both say she speaks... Then according to biblical scripture, meaning, according to God's breathed-out words... 2 Timothy 3:5... "...from these also turn away...". And... Romans 16:17... "...turn away from them...". And that's about all that any Christian believer needs to know... Who to have fellowship with... And who to mark as those to turn away from. We can surely pray for these types of people... But we should do so from a position/disposition of being turned away from them... Meaning... Not considering what they are saying, as being even in the least bit profitable. Amen.

Xtians should think twice about using the word "SLAVE" It reminds people that Yahweh had the time to forbid MIXED FABRICS and forbid SHELLFISH but when it came to SLAVERY, he just had to go with the "customs" and "practices" of the Near East region and prevailing times. LOL
@st.clairdancing2094 Жыл бұрын
Actually read again...In Leviticus, if someone sold themselves as a servant or was a slave and if a man knocked the tooth of the servant or slave, they were to let the slave/servant go! There's more than that, there are several chapters in Leviticus about moral and holy laws on how to treat servant/slaves and what reparations were to be made to those that the master had hurt or done harm to. Mixed fabrics was an actual practice by the Canaanites that was called practical magic or witchcraft (manipulation), same thing with sowing the field with two different seeds and the other mentions of pagan magic. These things that God mentions in Leviticus and Numbers and Deuteronomy were things practiced by the nations that God was going to drive. YHWH was driving them out because of the unholy, evil, wicked practices, not because of the righteousness of Israel, but because their time for judgment had come and because of Israel's disobedience, YHWH even extended the mercy given to the Canaanites another 40 years. Everything in scripture is there for a reason, we just don't understand sometimes because we did not live then. Shellfish is no where mentioned, except that they could only eat Fish with scales and fins, in that time they were to be a holy nation to God and to eat clean, in the Covenant that God made with them meant for them to abstain from certain things. Paul talks about slavery and actually says to the Romans that if they can be freed from the slavery or buy their way out of it, they should. So there is a New Covenant understanding that God hated slavery, just like he does divorce, but allowed because their hearts were hard. Slavery is still practiced in Muslim nations to this day, in pretty much every one and also in many communist nations on the Far East side of the Continent.

@@st.clairdancing2094 Leviticus 25:44-46 Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly. == Exodus 21:20-21 Anyone who beats their male or female slave with a rod must be punished if the slave dies as a direct result, but they are not to be punished if the slave recovers after a day or two, since the slave is their property. == Yahweh didn't want his chosen people to make SLAVES of other chosen people. I know the idea that the REAL GOD would ever endorse any religious oddities, makes you sick, but calm down. If we followed the old testiment, all the people who practiced slavery in the last five centuries would be exicuted. Why? Kidnapping was punishable by death. Selling kidnapped people was punishable by death. BUYING kidnapped people was punishable by death. Read it, it's there.
