Greg Murphy made the mistake at turn 2 which allowed Ambrose to get up the inside with a little rub fair racing he was well past him coming in to turn 3 that is not a corner u can go in two abreast. Murphy should have lifted out of the throttle to avoid that crash. His mistake was the reason Ambrose got round. He instead chose to keep it pinned knowing Ambrose would turn in. Murphy caused this crash through shear arrogance there’s no other way to put it. I don’t mind Murph but it doesn’t matter how many years on I still feel the same way as when I watched it happen live. Love Bathurst. So many big moments over the years!!

Ambrose is cool polite and freindly, murphy is a bad sport, stroppy highly strung and loses his cool alot,, thats why he did this, he was the first choice driver for the pirtek falcon but he turned it down coz it was a Ford,, what a wanker, thats pure hate not loyalty to Holden, you watch him he struggles to keep his cool he has alot of digs and isbias as fuck , even more bias than skaife who is another stroppy hot head, Ford drivers never get angry an lose their banana over racing incidents, john bowe might have been the one to get a little hot and out spoken but murphy and skaife,, need to see them selves behaving like that often to wake them up, i rekon that if murphy was proven to deliberately crash into Ambrose then he should of been exhited from v8 cars with a conviction in court for knowingly endangering a fellow competitors life
@gorky13175 жыл бұрын
its abundantly clear from the onboard of ambrose that he turned down into murphy's car and left no racing room, and this is after losing his ass end into murphs car in the previous corner attempting to get this run. Ambrose was always a fuckwit. His problem here was he met someone who was on the racing line who wouldn't just hand him the position. As far as Ambrose was concerned he had already signed a full time contract and was leaving supercars, he didn't care who he wrecked he just thought he was entitled to drive however he liked.

Yeah it only became Ford vs Holden after Nissan embarrassed the shit out of them on the track they both had sponsorship deals with. @Whjne Especially if the drivers switched positions, then who would blame whom. Corner before Ambrose tried to capitalize on Murph being held up a little, by doing the cutback, but rubbed him a little in the process, which pissed Murph off. Murph didn't want to cede the next corner, nor did Ambrose want to back off, contact was inevitable. Good hard racing, Murph only went straight on due to the contact & as he couldn't take the normal racing line.

In my opinion Ambrose was not enough ahead of Murphy to see where he was and took the full racing line ( 5:15 ) thinking that Murphy was totally behind him, but he wasn't. I guess Ambrose thought that Murphy T-boned him on purpose and Murphy thought that Ambrose steered into him ( 5:16 ) doing a too aggressive move. I am a Ford fan but Ambrose had an Ego fail here. He couldn't have passed Murphy there and even if he did, he would have gone too wide in the next corner, maybe crashing on the outside wall. He should have waited. Also, I didn't like the touch at 7:51. That was unnecessary and probably costed Ambrose the full pass.

Murphy never intended to make the corner, that's for darn sure...

I have to agree with you on that. I was a staunch Holden boy when I watched this live when I was 13, and I absolutely couldn’t stand Ambrose either. Watching this back as an adult now, and seeing the earlier contact with Murphy and Ambrose at the previous corner, it seems like Murph was hell bent on taking him out. It looks like he didn’t even try to turn the wheel to take the corner and clearly didn’t back off. This one’s on Murphy.
