I have regularly played with wizard characters that have a 10-12 CON score. The trick that has helped them survive so far, was buffing themselves before combat - with _False Life_ (upcasted if possible) and _Mage Armor._ _Blur_ and/or _Mirror Image_ also, but you can cast that once combat starts. _Longstrider_ is ok, but in most circumstances not necessary. Oh, and you just have to have _Shield_ and _Misty Step_ and _Counterspell_ prepared and save some spell slots for them. Although this wont stop everything from dragging your character to zero hit points, it has proved to be very reliable so far for me. Remember: _A prepared wizard is an alive wizard_ (in most circumstances). Good luck!
@toni23094 жыл бұрын
@@arcanecontent That sounds more sophisticated than hiding behind walls and random objects and re-rolling bad saves with the lucky feat. It also sounds like it uses more spell slots than hiding behind walls and random objects and re-rolling bad saves with the lucky feat. It's also kind of a bit too late now. I already chose in retrospect suboptimal spells and there is little possibility for me to learn spells in the campaign (she's just too broke) and I'm on level 7 already, and some higher level spells are really important for me to get. My AC is pretty damn good though, and having portent and lucky is quite nice. I'm just really scared that the day will come where it's like "that's 50 damage" and I'm like.... well, I guess that means I'm dead now, no death saves.

I once played a campaign where my ranger died so often that after a while of meeting death in the void we just kind of started chatting and started a book club. End of campaign my character once a week goes to the parties life and death cleric to arrange that week's meeting with a Commune spell

petition for a campaign in which there is a character to be death but he's super chill and, even though he's supposed to be unbiased, is secretly rooting for the party. He acts uninterested whenever they come to his domain, but he is really looking forward to seeing them each time to learn about how they died and hear their stories. Eventually, his favorite one dies for real and he does all that he can to save them, even at the cost of his own existence.

Idea. Players use their dead characters to run through a custom afterlife inspired campaign to earn a second chance at life.

This reminds me of this one time, we were fighting a large group of harpies, and our storm genasi just kept dying over and over. He'd save every turn, just to get mowed down again. this continued on for about three hours. but then, because injuries were that bad, his character had to get surgery. He died again because the only one with us that knew how to do field surgery was a drunkard with a buzzsaw named Boris.

For this very reason, I give my players a point of exhaustion whenever they drop to zero hit points
@Ryan-jk6mg4 жыл бұрын
And one of the campaigns I was part of we had a DM who every time we went down to zero HP the next time we went got up we gave one rank of exhaustion. Which was made the game a lot more interesting as we couldn't just run in and go Leroy Jenkins. I completely agree that failing three saving throws and dying makes it really hard to die permanently

Just played my first D&D campaign, it was a one-shot. My poor little Kobold Rouge was in a party where the task was to take a box through an area infested with Kobold “bandits”. In the box was The Heart of the Kobold, which explains all the “bandits”. When I learned what was in the box, I took it and ran. I was attacked, but we ran out of time, so I didn’t have time to do any death saves. The DM is really nice though, and they’re letting me use the character in more future campaigns.

I lost a couple of characters in a Pathfinder 1st edition dungeon delve called the crystal spire. We played many games with no death but in that one there were six deaths that I can recall. I'll never forget the first one when the slayer (Rouge/Ranger hybrid class) fell into a spiked pit trap, the traps lid started to close and we realized that a giant extraplaner spider was in the trap with the slayer. Both of my character's went down trying to save other players. When new characters joined the party they had to sign a contract that included instructions on how to handle their remains and property if they died.

Saddest death I ever had was when our halfling bard was forced to relive his wife’s death over and over while being mind controlled was the best role-playing I’ve ever seen cause he was screaming and crying for it to stop as he saw her die over and over and we actually stopped play for a bit because the dm got worried the player was actually really upset he wasn’t hes just a good role player

In my games there are no saving throws or resurection spells. you die when you get to 0 hp and there is no going back. It is so much better this way.

My wizard was asked to check the door for traps it was a mimic. He was then asked to check a different door in the same dungeon, it was also a mimic. He only checked 2 doors there where many, those where the only mimics. My DM wants that poor boy dead.

I was just playing a session a couple of minutes ago where I was playing a temporary goblin character (the party was working on un-petrifying several people, including my main character) and my character fell below 0 hit points, so my DM decided to do something different from what he normally does and my character found himself in a void with a merchant guy selling AMAZING magical items for cheap. My character even got to draw 2 cards from the deck of many things (and quickly went from level 6 to level 10 😅). The fact that I got the sun card to level me up so much meant that my DM gave me a magical tattoo. The way he balanced stuff out a bit was by making each item I got cost one item I already had as well as giving me a failed death save. Nat 20 next death save. Back to being conscious with 1 hp being carried by a green Wyvern, high risk of death. A party member kills the Wyvern, and I fall to the ground from several feet in the air. Back to the void. That immediately made me think of this video. I can not express just how happy I think my DM felt about the fact that this character was completely temporary and likely would never be used again (at least as a PC). At the point where I became a level 10 character, I think my DM gave up on making this character balanced because this character was all about being amazing at two-weapon-fighting. He gave me Flame tongue and Frost brand scimitars for one failed death save between the two scimitars and the effect of the comet card. This was because my character gave up all of his weapons for the 2 cards from the deck of many things.

thats why our group has this houserule that when you are healed back to conciousness, you make a CON save, and if you fail you get a lvl of exhaustion.
