It’s because at the end of the day , he felt horrible for leaving him and sister behind nor searching for them if he ever doubted that she was birthing the kids when he was last told no or she died they never mentioned the kids , so take it as you will. I see it as a father who didn’t know any better at the time and now he saw what was plain as day and for the love of his son and the memory of their mother he turned back right before he died.

He doesn't need to eat as his suit provides nutrients and other things his body needs, however he does enjoy eating when he's in his bacta tank but his food needs to be softened as due to his severe injuries he can't eat normally

There's a storage compartment in his suit specifically for storing nutrients that are then sent into his body via tubes surgically implanted into him. It delves into the psychological cycle of abuser/abusee... Those who grow up with abuse often end up abusing someone else and passing on the dark heritage. In the star wars universe that hatred and energy of the dark side is grown from being abused by society for years as well as lashing out against society and finally taking revenge against their abuser in some final act which forces the abusee to keep the cycle going. The Abusee becomes the Abuser when they realize they need a particular someone to abuse in order to complete the cycle but also just constantly needs to abuse someone in order to bring out some sort of temporary sanity. If you look up "Prison Sex" by TOOL you'll find it's based in this psychology. The sith take it to a whole other level where they absorb the hatred of their society until they totally reject it and want to destroy it. a Sith master will take that person as an apprentice if they have any strong force sensitivity and use any way possible to "abuse" their target by drowning them in darkness as they once were... never to see the light again. One example is how the easiest way to learn to use force-lightning is by being the target of it. Through feeling the hate and pain from within someone else manifested into this dark lightning you can bring it back out from within yourself to strike against those you hate. Darth Vader could never use that ability due to his suit's inherent weakness to it. Althought he did have the knowledge and power to use it if not for the suit!
