As great as this would be, those guards were not actually proper royal guards. Rather simple guardsmen that the new emporer had quickly designated to guard his chamber and clad in the red robes. These ones are better trained and specialized as they exist at a later time in the empire. I mean, it's possible, but unlikely.

Seeing as Palpatine is quite capable of defending himself (as well as being able to sense threats that lie beyond the reach of sight and hearing), it seems that the imperial guards' primary roles are 1) to create a sense of pomp and ceremony, and 2) to serve as metaphorical drywall every time that someone needs to make a dramatic show of violence. What a great career.

This was deliberate on Palpatine's part, and part of how he used Vader as a tool of control. People knew Vader's name. People knew Vader's reputation. But what people didn't know, is what Vader LOOKED LIKE. When the Emperor was angry, he would send Vader. If he was feeling generous, he would warn you about it. But you didn't know what ship he was on, or when he was coming, or what he looked like... did the Emperor tell you before sending Vader, or shortly before he was due to arrive? But you knew his name, his reputation, and you didn't know which Imperial ship he was on, which person was Vader. Every unfamiliar Imperial Officer arriving was a terror. Every fresh Imperial vessel brings horror with it. All from the uncertainty of Vader's presence. Until he arrived. And then you knew. And you would never forget. Not for the rest of your life... which, if Vader was there specifically to see YOU... was not a lengthy task.

Tbh, this would make for an awesome video game concept. It starts just after Revenge of the Sith just like the comics. You were just revived and kept barely alive with junk and spare parts. Nobody knows who you are yet, you don't even have a lightsaber. But you gradually work your way up, upgrading your armor, lightsaber and Force powers until you're finally at the level of Vader as he was in the OT and are feared throughout the galaxy.

From the movies and new canon novels and comics, Tarkin and Vader developed a huge amount of respect for each other. Tarkin was one of the few that knew Vader's identity and was allowed to live.

I remember when I found out why Tarkin found it easy to adjust to the Emperor's corruptivity. He had always been that evil and immoral, even when the Empire was the Republic. In order to not be relieved of his duty he had to hide most of his true self, but it was clearly not enough to hide from Anakin who felt that something was off about him when they first met. You can find this information by watching Star Wars the Clone Wars: The Citadel.

Was Vader allowed to beat up or kill on the spot the high ranking officers that disrespected him? I always got the feeling that Empire was ruled by strenght, and it always felt weird and wrong that Tarkin could dare to give orders to Vader. When i first watched Ep.4 i was expecting Vader to execute Tarkin as an example to the other officers in the room, after he ordered him to release that other officer from his force choke.

The thing about Star Wars for me is that I love watching these channels that talk about the lore and extended universe, but I'm not a fan at all of the main media like the movies and games. Star Wars has such a cool universe that in my opinion has not been utilized to its fullest in the current canon. It's a shame Disney had to make all the EU stuff non-canon, because as a Star Wars fan who's really not that into Star Wars, it's all the stuff that surrounds the canon that's the best to me. Karmush You’ve ignored one massive crucial fact. The first thing Sidious says to Vader when he wears the mask the first time... “Lord Vader, can you hear me?” If one of the greatest Sith of all time calls you a Sith and addresses you as “Lord”, pretty sure that makes you a Sith Lord. Did he ever address Maul or Dooku as “Lord” in the movies?
