Social Security judges rarely announce their decisions at the conclusion of your hearing, so you may be wondering when you will find out how the judge ruled, and, if you won, when will you get your first check.
As I discuss in this video, you can normally expect to wait four to six weeks after your hearing to receive the judge's written decision. If the decision says "favorable" or "partially favorable" you have been approved and soon you will start receiving letters from the SSA payment center. If the decision says "unfavorable" then you did not win and you should speak to your lawyer about filing an appeal with the Appeals Council or filing a new application.
Once you receive your favorable decision, you can expect to wait another 30 days before you see any money. Payments are issued by SSA payment centers called "MODS" and staff there process your claim. If we do not hearing anything from the MODS after 30 days, your attorney can start calling to move the process along.
