I had my right total knee replacement surgery, nine weeks ago today. I have a bend range anywhere from 125 to 129, but I still have about 6° to keep it from getting straight despite my best efforts. My physical therapist told me it’s very unlikely. I will never get it straight again because I didn’t get it straight sooner. Is this true?

It is true it is significantly more difficult to regain extension range of motion at this point as healing process and the development of scar tissue has begun in the knee at this point. However, there still is potential to regain some motion with intensive and consistent range of motion exercises. There are also the options of range of motion devices or a manipulation under anesthesia (MUA) if deemed appropriate and benenficial.

Question: is there a nurse coming to change dressings at home right after discharge as well as the physical therapist?

If you have home health services you typically have a nurse that may visit once or a few times. Typically the dressing stays on and doesn’t have to be changed for a number of days. The surgeons office / hospital will provide specific instructions when you discharge.

I had my bilateral knee replacement 9 weeks ago. After coming home from hospital I had taken help from a physiotherapist for 15 days. Now I am doing the same excercises twice or thrice a day and walking and climbing and down stairs. Now also I have numbness and tightness feeling in my left knee area. When will it reduce and how?

Tightness and some numbness are both normal to feel during your rehab. Typically these symptoms reduce in intensity and frequency over a number of weeks to months, but there is a lot of variability on how long this takes person to person.
