Hi, emu farmer here. That looks like a female during breeding season, they get very territorial. The worst thing you can do when they get like that is run. Standing your ground and holding a hand out to keep them at arm's length shows them that you're the boss. As long as the legs can't get to you you're fine. So yeah that man's behavior is ridiculous.

Emu birds, also known as Dromaius novaehollandiae, are the second tallest birds in the world after their relative, the ostrich. They are native to Australia and are commonly found throughout the country. Emus are flightless birds that resemble ostriches in appearance, with grey to brown mottled feathers and long legs. They are known for their large size, with adult birds standing between 5 and 6.5 feet tall and weighing up to 120 pounds. Emus have a distinctive neck and head, with bright blue skin on their necks and a small head with large eyes and ears. These birds live in a range of environments, from savannahs and grasslands to forests and even deserts. They are capable of sprinting up to 30 miles per hour and can travel long distances in a single day as they are highly adaptable to their surroundings. Emus are considered omnivores, meaning they eat both plants and animals. Their diet consists of a variety of vegetation including leaves, seeds, and grasses, as well as insects, small animals, and even carrion. They can go for weeks without water and are able to get most of the moisture they need from their food. Breeding season for emus typically occurs between April and May. Females lay large, dark green eggs in a communal nest made of grass, leaves, and sticks. The males are responsible for incubating the eggs and raising the chicks, which they do for several months until the young are independent. Emu feathers and oil were used by Aboriginal Australians for a variety of purposes, from decoration to medicinal treatments. Today, emus are mostly used for their meat and oil, which is high in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids and is used in a variety of products such as lotions and shampoos. In conclusion, emu birds are fascinating creatures that are well adapted to their environment. Their ability to travel long distances, eat a variety of foods, and survive in harsh conditions is a testament to their hardiness and endurance. As they continue to be an important part of Australian culture, it is important to learn more about these unique birds and their significance in the world.

I managed to make an emu sit down one day at our local zoo. I don't know if it was a hemu or shemu but it seemed to enjoy having its back and sides stroked gently. So it then sat down and 'purred'. Lovely experience. They can be very intimidating and insistent when it comes to food. A bit like having a very big chicken in your face.

That Emu was a Male. Male Emus get aggressive during breeding season and it's likely that the Emu Chicks in the video were the reason the dad Emu was defensive. The guy being pursued was very lucky he was not kicked. The male Emu do all the incubating of the Eggs and will take care of his chicks for about a year after which they will be run off by a female ready to breed. I've owned three. They are incredible animals and when domesticated make awesome pets.

But lately one of them is doing that to me im guessing it mating time for the two hence why he acting like that to me? also i stand my ground and made my self look big and he ran off, was that a good thing to do? as me being short is it possable they could do some damaging or even kill?

@Ardoxsho
@Ardoxsho 2 жыл бұрын
well, penguins do that too. it is thought to be the original therapod dinosaur type of parental care, because laying eggs was a demanding task, requiring the female to rest afterwards. now-extinct therapods did lay a vast number compared to modern-day birds; and even though penguins only lay one egg, it's enormous. ostrich and emu eggs are really large compared to their body size, with very thick shells that deplete the female's body of calcium. that must be why the task of feeding the chicks is taken up by the male in this species (in most living birds, it's shared).

Manuel Luis That is utterly untrue. No emu has ever killed anyone, it's ostriches that are aggressive and kill with a single kick. Emus are exceptionally passive except when the male is protecting juveniles (as he seems to be doing here, the short ones with thicker neck feathers are young), and even then they usually try to intimidate you into leaving rather than actually attacking.
