I like the awkward situations, too! You see the humanity both of yourself and others, and just how easy it actually really is to communicate with people through smiles, laughs, and lots of gestures. I like that communication can cross borders, and it doesn’t just have to be through language.

When I lived in Japan in 2013, it was fairly easy to get around with just basic conversational Japanese and learning hiragana and katakana (in terms of ordering food and buying items) I think it’s important to try to learn as much as possible to navigate based on your lifestyle. The thing I love most about travelling is jumping head first into the language. I learn basics beforehand then start by going to a cafe or restaurant to order. Then I get directions, it kinda snowballs from there. It can get very awkward but people are lovely most of the time. I especially loved France because most people waited until you scrambled for long enough and then helped haha

Thanks for posting your video’s of a black woman’s experience in Japan/foreigner’s experience in Japan! Its been rlly helpful seeing someone else who’s an American living in Japan and the difference between knowing some of the language vs not! I went to Japan recently and even knowing just the basics like hello, thank you, excuse me, and can I have this helped a lot! And I agree that putting yourself in awkward situations esp. in foreign countries brings so much perspective and provides more unique stories! My mom was a Viet immigrant who went to America and so when I visited Japan, for the first time I felt her pain of not knowing the language well. It was really eye opening c:

@EnimsLifeinJapan Жыл бұрын
Hi! If you're coming for just a summer I would probably study JLPT N4 materials, but that is onlly useful for vocab and grammar. I would focus on output by getting a tutor or shadowing Japanese native speakers. This is just my approach and opinion though. 🫤 The key would be mustering the courage to initiate conversations even if you're not conversational. :)

I'm sorry, but the message is in Google Translate, so it may not be understood. Hello, I'm Japanese. This video was very interesting. Suddenly, I would like to know what black people think of Japanese manga. Black people rarely appear in Japanese Shonen manga (like One Piece). Shonen manga is a product sold mainly to Japanese adolescent boys. I'm very sorry, but Japanese men don't often have romantic feelings for black women. So, in shonen manga, there are many Japanese-like characters that adolescent boys like and white-like characters, but black women rarely appear. What are your thoughts on this fact? Also, Japanese characters with tans and Japanese bodybuilder characters in Japanese comics seem to be perceived as discriminatory blacks overseas. (like Blackluster from one punch man) I think this is because when Japanese people look at Japanese people, the range of judging black or white skin is narrower than that of foreigners. I would appreciate it if you could give me your opinion on this matter as well. Finally, I am very grateful to be able to watch your video like this. I look forward to seeing more interesting videos like this.

@@Aschwiftbreeze I agree that Black Luster looks like a derogatory representation of black people to foreigners. Personally, Japanese bodybuilders like Kitamura Katsumi and Yamagishi Hidetada have pretty dark skin when competing. And I think Black Luster is a character inspired by that. (Actually, the Japanese name for Black Luster, Kurobikari, is an expression that refers to strongly tanned skin, polished leather shoes, etc.) I don't know if foreigners think Kitamura Katsumi or Yamagishi Hidetada have black skin. However, many Japanese would describe the skin of Kitamura Katsumi and Yamagishi Hidetada as tan.
@deepblueskies1 Жыл бұрын
Many people see black women as strong and sexual sometimes even violent! and along with having dark skin that can unfortunately be unappealing to Japanese people and many other people too!! The saddest part of all this is that many black women think they have to be this way or they would be considered weak or weird! As a black woman myself I hope to see more black people in manga and animation that will show us with many different personalities! Black women can be pure, sweet, fun and very cute as well! And there is no reason to feel intimidated by us! 😊
@トード-c1j Жыл бұрын
@@deepblueskies1 Thank you for your comment. I'm stuck in two thoughts right now. Like your comment, I agree with the idea that racial diversity should be expressed in manga and anime. But on the other hand, I also wonder if it's such a bad thing to target only Japanese adolescent boys like shonen manga and show characters that Japanese people like. This is because comics are neither lofty objects like art, nor are they tools for expressing social opinions. It is a vulgar product. But that's why there are so many different characters in comics. (Women that men seem to like, men that women seem to like, men that men seem to like, women that women seem to like, etc.) Japanese people are not racially diverse. However, the propensity is different for each person, and the diversity of such propensity is the reason for the development of Japanese manga. That's how vulgar Japanese cartoons are. I love the vulgar side of Japanese people. Of course, there are high-end comics like attack on titan that have a lot of social messages and also include racial diversity. However, many cartoons pursue kawaii and coolness rather than reality, and are filled with characters whose race cannot be defined, and realistic racial diversity is rarely expressed. (The same can be said for games like FF16, anime, and the idol business.) Looking at it from a global perspective, it may be common to think that even fictional works will unconsciously give rise to discriminatory thoughts unless they have a well-balanced racial composition. However, many Japanese people, including myself, do not think that we will become discriminatory people even if we continue to read manga with low diversity expressions. While feeling this gap, I read the news about racism every day and am always in agony. I may be a racist in the world for stating such an opinion. And other Japanese people who like such manga, including the authors of such manga. But I'm definitely not racist. I believe that many people involved in manga are not racist at all. Last but not least, thank you for loving Japanese manga. I'm sure there are manga in Japan that depict racial diversity that I just don't know about. Even if Japan's racial diversity is low, there is enough diversity in manga.

So do the rappers in the street offer Japanese classes. I’m trying not to expose the weak ass stealthiness of the ninja way, which is nothing more than modern day prejudice. It looks as if the sincerity of kindness can blind you from them searching for a sufficient reason to deny you, and they find it every time. Way too comfortable taking our Hebrew-Japanese women, but not the men are always seen as a threat exposing their I lack of security and integrity. I’m from Baldamore, I have my whole life to Japan, and still would if they didn’t reject me. DAM. I want to learn and help, but why is this a chess match on hiding true intent from being exposed. It’s like how do you know how to rap like that, so some of them can’t be like the others. I was coming in support of Anna Yamagishi. She is learning English and I’m trying to learn Japanese, but vagina hole wins every time. I speak Japanese very well just need to learn the language. Ounknow fa real. I give up. Im thinking that it’s best to come to Japan to learn Japanese, why learn it in America where you only see people as enemies. I learned Tagalog in the Philippines not America. Men and their dicks or am I goin too strong. Wholetime, im just mad they rejected me from coming to the iSi language school because I ain’t vaccinated (but said I need 2 Million Yen). Maybe they did mean well, but I can always see the set up before hand. Im Japanese too they think like white peoples in that area of prejudice. We are masters at seeing prejudice but they don’t know that because they are ignorant to feel us about slavery. They not realizing we ain’t got shit but Blackanese blood, and only connect with Japan. Too many patterns I’ve seen of them being too comfortable with Blackanese women, but they act like white people when we show interest in a Japanese woman. I wonder how it would be if you married a Japanese white face, and then I came around from Baltimore and connected with you and genuinely tried to be friends. Would he feel like a rule must be made to allow me to have woman for woman. If I showed interest in Anna Yamagishi Japanese born and raised, would they cleave to her in the way of blocking us from each other because of her beauty and being home born, or would they struggle like it’s a strategy game not able to find a reason to block. Would they pry into my personal life seeming friendly only to block me from meeting Anna Yamagishi. We are from Baldamore so it’s easy to reach out to you so they can’t block really. I genuinely wanted to marry Anna Yamagishi and make music together. Ninjas though. I’m done. You gotta read between, because Baldamore is the city that…

Can a nonfiction filmmaker put in his two cent. First great video. When I was in Japan for 4 weeks living with my Japanese-American friend and his brother who lives in Tokyo. I found this worked for me. Japanese people are perfectionist so even if they speak some English they will not speak English with an American or someone from the UK. SO BEING a Spanish speaking person. I asked people in Spanish “can you please help me.” I would repeat it. Now what I did was established myself as a Spanish speaking person. This puts Japanese people at ease. Then I say (in English) I can also speak a lil English if that’s better. Most times I get an “YES” and we start speaking in English. I found that Japanese people are more likely to speak with you in English if they think it’s not your first language. I have met people on the street in bars. That I am still friends with since 2009 because we build a friendship. thebullyexposed.com
