There's a big difference between appropriation and appreciation I think everyone around the world would be better off if we all realized this and applied it to the way we view things
It's not appropriation, you're not privileged, profiting or making a mockery from the clothing and you're in the country where it is located. Cultural appropriation is ignorance + power + use/misuse of cultural items.

As a Japanese this is ABSOLUTELY NOT Appropriation......The strange American liberals don't seem to know difference between someone who may actually have blatant disregard of a culture vs someone who truly appreciates a culture outside of theirs ... She is proudly wearing it and quite stunning... Yes I personally knew of a Tokyo Kimono Store that refused to sell to Non-Japanese

I love the kimono you are wearing. It has the Camilla motif, Tsubaki/椿, which is often used in the designs of the Kamakura Bori wood working/鎌倉彫 that you can see there. A very good choice! You look fabulous! It is not cultural appropriation! Japanese people don’t think that way. You look lovely! Good luck to you! I’m an American in Japan too but I’m way too tall. I have never been able to wear a kimono because of that. I envy you so much.

People are too sensitive to the idea of appropriation. We live in a melting pot where we share ideas. If you don’t want anyone to adopt your ideas, never show them to someone outside your community. If you’re Willing to express it out in the open you have to be ready to see someone execute their own version of your idea. For instance a lot of Japanese culture, clothes food, religion, they got from trade with China & Korea. Business suits, & modern building practices they got from the USA & Europe. If you ever wore silk that was meant for aristocratic Chinese, ever wore purple that was only meant for royalty. Democracy came from the Greeks who were conquered by the Romans. Who basically took Greek culture as a whole rebranded it & called it their own. Then Europe went a copied a ton of it. Also if you ever practiced fine etiquette in a restaurant, in a European country or a European influenced nation you can thank the English for delivering France’s Pom & circumstance. So you appropriate all the time, without even knowing it. The only reason people should get mad is if the person is making fun of what they’ve borrowed. Otherwise people are just showing their natural bias against the group borrowing.

Cultural appropriation is a term coined by RACISTS. Just like the people arguing with me that mixing ethnicity babies lose a country's identity.. sounds fancy and righteous, but it's downright an excuse for RACISTS to complain

It’s not cultural appropriation at all. People who said that are completely wrong, especially in this situation. I live in CA. I see some white and black women wearing Yukata especially in summer. When I see that, do I get upset? Not at all. I usually tell them that they look pretty. I see that they are respecting our culture and I love that.

Cultural appropriation is a racist marxist term that has no use in the world and is extremely ignorant in its usage.

well. white people are going to talk about their good experience, and going to dismiss others. note: if you were a white person with blonde hair and blue eyes you will be like a celebrity in Japan no matter what you do, but if you were asian with dark skin or black person you will face the discrimination at its finest. the prettier you're the more they are going to simp to you. even white people know that.

You aren't appropriating anything... like you aren't sexualizing it for profit, you aren't claiming you invented the Kimono. You are appreciating the culture

Overall it doesn’t matter where you are from culture is meant to be shared and celebrated America and Americans should know this because America is influenced by many different cultures America culture American language is influenced by other languages and culture and not only that so are the foods and so are most of the things We call American culture so Americans should understand that culture isn’t something we should Stick to one group of people it should be share and celebrated cause America and Americans Are made up and consist of many different cultures language and other countries influences but

People that literally say this don’t even know that it doesn’t matter if you are black European or from a different background or ethnicity because Japan has a long history with foreign relations not only that there are many Historical figures in Japan that are foreigners that had huge impact on Japan there was even a black samurai that joined Japanese society and have made impacts In Japanese society and even a English man and other people that have came to Japan and became apart of the Japanese society people don’t know history which is why other people from other countries or are not educated on Japan long history she is just appreciating and learning the culture for what it is
I’m late but your mom is so lovely. It’s nice to see someone be open minded and willing to try new things!
