The Destroyer that was hit by the crashing torpedo bomber the USS Smith, managed to put the fire out when her skipper had the helmsman steer her into the massive wake of the Battleship South Dakota extinguishing the flames and saving the ship. The quick thinking from her captain as well as the crews supurb damage control earned the ship a well deserved Presidential Unit Citation.

The facial expressions were incredible. They looked a lot more restrained than a typical animation but I feel like that is realistic because I could still see all that tension in their faces. Japanese and English dialogues both sound awesome.

Feels like The Grey Ghost and her Grim Reapers would been a ghost story among the IJN: “A lone ghost ship, last of her class, comes back from the dead every time. Angrier and stronger than before. Because it wasn’t oil that kept her going, it was revenge”. “The Grey Ghost? She’s just a myth! The Yanks must have some new carriers they made”. “Fool! I’ve seen this ship with my own eyes. It is the same! She seeks revenge against us all! Mark my words. By the time she had reached our shores… there won’t be a navy, not even much of an Air Force left”. “Just tall tales. No ship has that kind of a grudge”. “That is no ship private! That, is wrath. We decimated her home, sunk her sister ships. How would you feel if you’d lost everything and were the last one left?! We will fight and die for our empire. She intends to make that so. Every last one of us. Until none are left”.

Incredible job with this video! I've read about this Battle since I was a child, and Stanley Vejtasa s fight at Coral Sea in a Dauntless. There were I think 2 Kamikaze style hits on the Hornet , one was very horrific. The fighter pilots could only do so much. Later in the War there would be 36 planes in a fighter squadron, at that time 12 or 18 if memory serves. "Dogfight" videos sponsored by Enterprise rental I think ,depicted this with an animated plus switch over to real interview with Cdr Vejtasa about his role and how he'd thought about chopping the Kates rudder with his prop. He changed his mind. Sadly the plane hit the USS Smith doing alot of damage

The big miracle for USS Enterprise during the Battle of Santa Cruz was the Enterprise entered a storm sprawl right before the main force of enemy bombers arrived, so a vast majority of that attack wave went right after USS Hornet. Even still once Enterprise exited the rain squall, she came under attack and both the Grim Reapers and Enterprise’s Strike Group did a damn good job with AA Fire. But Enterprise would suffer three bomb hits, the biggest one being the bomb hit on the forward flight elevator that knocked it out of action. Had it not been for the aforementioned above, Enterprise could have probably fared worse, but then again, she was not called “The Lucky E” for no reason.

Many Japanese committed atrocities (sure, prob more so in the army but still). I can't respect someone who fights for tyrannny & genocide (Japan in China, Rape of Nanjing; Germans in WWII; Rusians now; Israelis bombing civillians just for the political survival of one man...). If more people said 'no', we wouldn't have these damned wars, but they don't, people aren't socially brave generally, so I won't respect them for just going along with the propeganda. Its not that all the Japanese were evil but its disingenuious to suggest there's any moral comparison between the Allies in WWII and the Axis.
