When & How Much Co2 Does Planted Aquarium Need? Co2 bubbles per second in Planted Aquarium

In this video, we will see when to diffuse co2 to your aquarium and how much co2 is required for the aquarium.
First thing first, When do we dose co2 to the aquarium, when the aquarium light is switched on. Aquarium plants wake up when the lights are on and with the help of light plants absorb co2 and release o2 generating glucose. plants source of energy. Now it's clear that co2 should be diffused to the aquarium when after the lights are on and turned off once the light is off. Aquarium plants only photosynthesis in the presence of light, so there is no point having the co2 on when the lights are off.
The second question is how much co2 to diffuse into the Aquarium? The optimal co2 for a plated aquarium highly depends upon the size of the tank. For a rough estimate, you can diffuse 2 to 3 bubbles per second for a 1 feet tank, 4 to 5 bubbles for 3 feet tank and so on.
Also, keep in mind that only with trial and error you can find the optimal co2 diffusion for your tank. If the fish from your tank swims to top, that's an indication that the co2 is high in your planted aquarium.

@Mayur Dev good evening sir. the video is really beneficial for the beginner as well as professional ones But I have seen all your videos and got to know the balance chemistry of a planted tank in which you have mentioned 6-7 hours of light is required and 3-4 hours co2 is required in which pearling start with 3-4 BPS or 5-6 BPS IS REQUIRED But may I know these figure are always same for each and every tank size or volume ? Is applicable for start up tank or for a running tank ??

Hello Mayur. I have a Fluval hang on back on a 2 ft aquarium. The surface agitation is quite high. My current BBS is 2-2.5 drops/sec. Will the agitation lead to off-gasing of the co2 which is released in the aquarium and should I inc the BBS? Also the drop checker hasnt changed colour since I installed the co2 cylinder. Increase the water level so the agitation is reduced, co2 can go up to 3-4 bbs and also check the quality of the liquid used for the drop checker

Dear Sir, I have started to follow ur video and started a DYI CO2 system due to lockdown. I have one query. How to place the CO2 diffuser so that after diffusion the gas spread across the tank. As in my case the I get namo bubble from the diffuser but it mostly goes up, instead of moving around the tank while it moves in the upward direction. I have a hang on back filter and my tank size is 1 1/2 feet by 1 feet and height 15". Looking forward for ur reply. Ur videos has motivated me to try planted tank :)

Place it on the opposite side of the filter about 8cm from the bottom of the tank, bubbles will always go up that is natural as Air is lighter than water, Also make sure the filter out let does not agitate the surface of the water, there will be loss of co2

Doesn’t really work, I tried and it’s hell lot of work and the results are inconsistent. If you’re seriously looking to grow plants then get a co2 cylinder. A second hand cylinder will cost 3500 complete setup. I did the same and using it since last 4-5 months and results are very good.

I would keep it at about 3-4 bubbles per second, I use ADA diffusers so the bubbles are very fine and co2 diffusion is good, if you are using a plastic or ceramic diffuser then may be you can use a bit more, try with 3-4 bubbles and if you feel the results are good then fine or you can increase

You have not told what filter you are using, use filter outletcpipe to create some surface agitation, if fish population is heavy and tank is not heavily planted fish will gasp for oxygen if more than needed co2 given

@@amitacharjee8985 Hey Amit i have a cannister running at 1000l/hr and hob running at 650l/hr also a powerhead inside the tank but not enough surface agitation (50g tank). The fishes are not gasping now as it was the teperature that was causing the water to not being able to hold the oxygen as the water temp was contsantly above 30. I removed the lid and started running a fan over the tank which has helped. Co2 is at 1 bubble per 2 sec and I am running a airstone at the same time. I understand that it is wasting a lot of the co2 but I have moderatly planted mostly low nutrientconsuming plants plants so they are doing alright. I will be increasing the Co2 soon and lets hope the fishes dont start gasping again.

@@FrontierOne 50 gallon is not a very big tank, over filtration is not needed, one canister filter is enough, please use good bio media, ceramic rings are not good, yes temp increase is a problem in india, aquarium chillers are costly, in summer months decrease the co2 rate alittle bit, increase it after july, also remember too much surface agitation cause fungal disease or itch in fish sometimes

Sir, Thanks for very useful info! Just one question lets say if we start co2 and light for 7 hours in evening, do we need to turn off water filter in this time window? As water filter will remove co2 and add oxygen then its useless to start co2 system.. Rite.. Let me know whats ur openion. Or its ok to run co2, light and filtration system together?

I suggest you do not use these products as they are mage with Gluterhaldihyde ( read about the side effects) Best is to use a Cylinder and about 4-5 bubbles per second for about 3 hours do share a picture or your tank on my what's app number 9820404261

The reasons plants do not pearl 1. The fertiliser to the quantity you are using are not good enough for the plants 2. The light is not enough and the photosynthesis is not happening 3. The Co2 could be inadequate or the diffuser is not functioning well enough

Use the right kind and quantity of fertilisers and the right amount of light also

if the plants are growing then dont worry much about it. Pearling is not fundamental to health of plants, plants may not pearl because of a multitude of reasons. There are some plants that may never pearl. Understand that pearling happens if plants photosynthesize at a rate that is faster than the rate of dispersion of gases from the water column. A high flow rate will cause your plants to not pearl as well

Air pump gives oxygen not Co2 and the co2 in the air pump is not enough to grow plants if you have co2 and your system is good the plants will produce the oxygen

Lights on for 6 hrs CO2 for 6 hours (2 BPS) Used seachem Flourish tabs when put plants, intend to do so every 3 months Tropica fertilzer (weekly) Soil - 40 % seachem Flourite Black and 60% Fluval Stratum 80 F temperature 37 gallons, had to use a wave maker to make sure bubles go around the tank. Any ideas what might be lacking? Thanks so much!!

The diffuser you are using is ceramic and probably blocked even after you have cleaned it, ceramic goes bad in 3-6 months I will tell you the issues, please not this is nothing against a brand but only my opinion Lights on for 6 hrs - Good can go to 7 CO2 for 6 hours (2 BPS) - 3-4 hours is enough Used seachem Flourish tabs when put plants, intend to do so every 3 months - Bad idea, Tropica fertilzer (weekly) - Soil - 40 % seachem Flourite Black and 60% Fluval Stratum You have products of three brands that will never work together as they are not designed like that, the nutrition levels will be erratic and you are not sure what properties the soil has and what is missing, so again not sure what or how much fertz to add 80 F temperature - OK 37 gallons, had to use a wave maker to make sure bubles go around the tank. Just the bubbles moving around will not help, the plant should be able to absorb them The First step to success is to recognise the problem, the fact that you realised there is a problem is your step towards success do a bit of homework on the products u are using, you could improve a bit Though this is not a long term solution you can see some short term results

Dude, why is flourish tabs a bad idea? what the hell is worn with you, abhi sab ADA bola hota to tu bolta Balance ka issue hai..which is not even true.. @nicecook12 understand that the tank takes time to mature..plants need to attain critical bio mass and things stabilize..personally using an internal diffuser is much better but Kudos on making the CO2 going around, dose Magnesium if you arent doing so already..research EI and save tons of money instead of buying branded fertilizzers. There is absolutely nothing wrong with your substrate..read up on CEC, if you are dosing water column then substrate is of importance only for heavy root feeders like echinodorus. Most Importantly..STOP WATCHIN HIS GARBAGE CHANNEL AS A SOURCE OF INFORMATION ON THE HOBBY!!!!! Watch his channel when you want to know how ADA markets and what ADA products are used for
