8-Track never really took off in the UK, but it's a fascinating format. I had a reel-to-reel tape recorder when I was a kid (1980s) that a neighbour gave me because they knew I was into electronics, it was old enough to run on valves but barely worked. Anyway, another neighbour a few doors down was an electrician who liked to tinker so I went knocking on his door and asked if he would mind helping me look at it. We got that thing running good as new, and he also introduced me to Ham radio. Awesome guy, sadly no longer with us as he passed away some years ago.

I have that same Simon and Garfunkel 8-track in a box around here somewhere. I don't have an 8-track player so it would be hard to play it, but I do have an old reel-to-reel. You can open up those old 8-tracks and wind the tape onto a reel and play them. Back in the day, my dad had an 8-track player in the front room. My brother and I would play spaceship in the front room and use the 8-track player as a key component in the space ship controls. We would blast off to Elvis Presley. Those were the days.
