Asking someone to nicely turn it down is no issue, though you cant force them to do anything. Loud music is actually a ticketable offense in some areas, mine included, but that doesnt mean they should die for that. No one gave the guy authority to take the law into his own hands, he assumed that himself..Isnt that obvious? He was ultimately convicted to life after a retrial in oct 2014

This didn't have to happen and it surely shouldn't be defended by law. The story of the senseless killing of Jordan Davis should make every last one of us - every mother and father - strong advocates for the END of Stand Your Ground laws. He could have been your beloved son. Too easy to pull a trigger in anger or fear beyond reason when you think the law will back you up.

But Jude, this particular thing couldn't have happened to anybody's son. It's unfortunate that we have to instruct our children to try to prevent them being killed because they walk outside because of the color of their skin. We have a history in this country of this happening to certain people's children and the law has defended it, over and over and over and over again. This happens to people of color in this country at an astronomical rate and the law has defended it overwhelmingly and throughout history. This isn't new for us. Our lives aren't valued here. Our children's lives aren't valued here. That's what the idea of "Black Lives Matter" came out of. This is a pattern, this is historical pattern. And it's so common that it's been normalized and, unfortunately, backed up by the precedent of law. Our lives aren't legally protected here, which means we are non-citizens. Despite the fact that we pay taxes here and try to participate in the political process, if allowed.

That's abuse of The Stand Your Ground Law. I won't say that the man is a racist, but he overreacted by shooting at people, without being absolutely sure that he saw a weapon. He was trigger happy. The killer left the scene after the shooting without even calling the police. This is such a sad story. Even if Jordan's killer spent the rest of his life in prison, there would be no justice for that child and his family.

cassl14 Really? I need additional information, aside from what is provided in this video to come to that conclusion. Other than the fact that he is white, and killed a black person, where is the evidence that he is racist? Did he SAY something that would lead you to believe that he is racist? If you have that information, I would like to know it. You may be right. Or, you may be wrong. Thank you.

Him saying that he doesn't like thug music is not evidence that the man is a racist. It's an opinion. What does so-called "thug music" have to do with race and ethnicity? If people were sent to prison on opinions, most of the world population would be underneath the prison. So long story short, you don't know and you're guessing. Thanks for trying.

Seems like you're buying into AND espousing the racial and ethnic sterotypes. I am sure that you realize that so-called thug music is universal, just as Jazz is. There are Asian guys, who can't even speak English breakdancing to thug music and Hip Hop on the other side of the world at this very moment (and owning it). That is why you should never carry a gun. The discussion of whether that should be illegal involves other things. But is probable that the shooter actually feared for his life here, of course his racism played a big role in that, the threat existed only in his head, but he fired the gun just the same. There is many more instances of you being in a situation that you are sure you are going to get robbed or killed, but that doesn't end up happening, then you actually getting robbed or killed. But if you have a weapon at hand, you go for it.

Loud rap music that is. It's used as torture in Afghan POW camps. Music torture has been common practice for the CIA ever since it began its "enhanced interrogation program" in the early 2000s. The process is designed to "create fear, disorient … and prolong capture shock" in prisoners.

If you're here for racial debate, please invest your time into social psychology. You can get ACTUAL answers on why people do things and why bias is the way it is when it is. Otherwise, you're just getting opinions.

Jordan was a cherished child, struggled for and long awaited. Just because there is so much divisive propaganda, forget that. Jordan was a much loved boy. There's nothing else you need to know and like any parent imagine how devastating it would be to lose your own...That is one strong Dad telling this story..I would be jumping off a bridge in his position. So just stop smearing his story and put yourself in someone else's shoes and be thankful you haven't suffered such profound loss. :(

So sad. I feel bad that this kid lost his life, but to be really honest, there's ALOT of music out there these days that is very offensive to a lot of people. I'm not just targeting hip hop, there's songs out there by singers like Pink and Kesha with all this swearing going on, it's very prevalent. Older people in different generations just didn't have music like that. If you want to play all this angry vicious music with swear words, it's smart to keep your Windows closed on your car.

Unless there is a local sound ordnance, EVERYONE has the right to blast music. Just like everyone has the right to make their cars and motorcycles extra loud and drive around at night revving their engines whether it disturbs me or not. Welcome to the United States, lady.
