I love how our first TKD guy successfully deployed some TKD specialty kicks like the double kick.
@elenchusАй бұрын
That first karateka had killer blocks. I didn't even see them until the slow mo (the first knockdown, not the KO). He was relying on them to stay in range while not getting hit but things happen fast that close and he got caught on the chin. I love this format.

I wouldn’t say that kick was kind of a low blow, it was straight to the stomach and then slid down. ( not recoiled)

At this level, the fighters usually know Karate, TKD, Kickboxing, probably Muai Thai, etc. Who they are as a fighter is far more important than the style they favor. Would you call Connor McGregor "The Boxing guy"?

Would love to see traditional Chinese martial arts succeed in this kind of setting. We’ve seen bajiquan do pretty well. There was that one xingyi school at a tournament. The hung gar guy in an mma fight. I’d like to see more of this and less wing chun. (I love wing chun, I just think it’s overrepresented.)

I told Stu about a kungfu viewer named Steven, so hopefully Steven (who's done Hunggar and Wing Chun) can do this tournament in the future!

@@drkaufman Yeah, it'd be great if Jerry could get ahold of him. He comes off to me as a really nice guy and I think he'd be happy to do an interview and breakdown with Jerry. Also, it's been like 20 years lol, but last I checked he was based in LA which I think may not be all that far from Jerry (not sure). It could be possible for them to meet up and go over technique etc.

Great kicks at 2:15 and 2:55, the TKD guy is actually a good fighter. What I don't understand about WTF TKD is this attitude to walk backwards instead of being more aggressive just like many other martial arts and styles. The second karateka looks more a free styler than pure karate, and that scorpion kick proves it. Strangely, the ITF TKD guy looked really less confident than WTF TKD guy from the first match.

Actually it is, even tkd masters say that there is no taekkyon influence in taekwondo and that it's completely based of shotokan karate, the taekkyon thing was only said beacuse it wouldn't have sounded good at that time with all the resentment against the japanese that the most iconic martial art from korea is entirely based on a japanese one.

3:40 the position of the karateka's right hand is bad but immaterial to his knockdown; he got clipped in the temple by a very well-timed fade-away hook that landed over his left shoulder just a little bit after his own left lunging jab thingy landed the taekwondo guy got hit but was moving with the punch and so blunted its power
