@@jade7631 I had no idea you had such in-depth knowledge of military hardware success and failure rates. I'm just going off of memories. So if you're referring Google like most people like to do, you might want to ask yourself who really owns Google and would or could they have a motive to publish misunderstanding information. I'm 59 and retired from the the department of defense/air Force as a civilian aircraft jet engine components machinist at the largest military jet engine maintenance and repair facility in the world. Yes Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City Oklahoma. I'm no expert but I worked on a daily basis with the military and failure rates were addressed on a monthly basis. If you've never done a FOD walk it's quite fun to do.

The first missile went into orbit? That thing must be seriously overpowered! 17.5k mph to achieve low earth orbit. That's like Mach 25.
@AbyssViber1028 Жыл бұрын
Some missiles are designed to climb up as high as possible while the booster is still hot. Once the booster runs out, the potential energy built up in the climb is converted into kinetic energy that the missile uses to basically fall on the target. Best example I can give you is the AIM-54 Phoenix.
@hadorstapa Жыл бұрын
@@AbyssViber1028 that sounds very powerful indeed, but what you describe is ballistic, not orbital. Orbital velocity takes so much more power than a ballistic trajectory.

My brother in Christ, you are aware that in 1985, an F-15 EAGLE fighter was able to intercept and destroy a SATELLITE that was moving at 17,500 mph in actual space!
@hadorstapa5 ай бұрын
@@AlejandroOni Indeed it did, fired by Major Wilbert "Doug" Peterson. However, the missile he fired was not able to (and did not need to) achieve orbit. Only to intercept something that was in orbit 300 miles above his aircraft. It was part of the test programme in the race to make anti-satellite warfare possible, so it was an American satellite being shot down by an American fighter with every possible bit of information provided to make it achievable. It's incredibly difficult to do, not least because of the satellite's massive speed advantage. It can only be done from ahead of the satellite, because no such missile could catch a satellite from behind.
