5:36 The scam here is where the $100 is like a check. The scammer sends a "check" to you but the check isn't real, so when the bank finds out, they take the $100 back. However, if you gave it back, the $100 being taken is your $100. This is why you always wait for a check, or in this case an Apple Pay payment, to clear before spending

Heres OP's Update from 7:48 " I decided to sit on it over the weekend and kind of process it to a decision about replying. The thing that bothered me the most was how we never made it known that he was missing on social media. One commenter said that even if we didn't publicly post it anywhere that he was most likely on the NamUS site if a missing persons report was filed. Well, sure enough, I went and looked, and he was listed. It's very easy to find and the site has a long list of missing people that anyone can access. If you search his name on a site like White Pages, my name and phone number do come up listed under his as a relative. I honestly feel like someone found his name and then me via this route. If it was truly someone he knew or who knew something, I think their text would have stated that and not been so vague. It's hard to believe that there are people who are that depraved, but I truly feel like this was some sick person trying to take advantage. So, I have chosen not to reply. "

1:35 - They are trying to capture your voice to have you agree to something you never would agree to. This is why you never say yes to anyone you dont know because if they are recording you then they can use that yes to open credit cards and other stuff in your name by using it to agree to terms and conditions. And if you say enough to them on the phone, use AI for a whole lot more.
@zuriel478327 күн бұрын
That's a myth, you can't just go opening credit cards with a recording of someone saying "yes". There's not a single thing you can do with a recording of someone saying yes or no
@Ryanthusar27 күн бұрын
@@zuriel4783 - No its not, if someone has you saying "Yes" and they have all the details they need to open an account. When its gets to the terms and conditions part about the credit card or loan you get played a recording, it then asks if you agree to that. All they do then is play the "Yes" recording and you have agreed to it. Since a lot of things are automized these days it wont get picked up. And even if there is a person taking the call and details, all they hear is "Yes" and nothing else. So dont try and call it a myth, because it does happen and only those who are scammers themselves will try and debunk

13:54 I have heard of a scam where scammers will send items through Amazon to random addresses, and then give a positive review to the product the review will be flagged as coming from a purchase and then after the listing gets enough positive reviews they will change what item is tied to the listing to something different.
@bretl813027 күн бұрын

@taegra26 күн бұрын
@@bretl8130 I had this happen to me, after contacting Amazon support I was told any items sent to you are legally yours to keep and if anyone asks for returns you are not obligated to return them. They're so lazy that they use AI to write their messages, and it's so funny when the AI doesn't know what it's talking about. Most of my interactions with them goes something like... AI: "Hello, [insertwriternamehere], I am a concept artist who loves your story [How Axl became a Red], and, as a concept artist, I made something to visualize your artistic talents. I would very much love to hear from you." Me: "The story you just listed was femboy yaoi." And then the AI has a filter so it just starts completely tweaking.

3:13 legitimate question: If in such a situation you asked for the scammer to send the code over both marketplace and sms, you confirm that the codes match and then do it vice versa be a safe way to avoid scams?
@Real_Moon-Moon25 күн бұрын
It’s the 2FA code. In other words they’re trying to get your account.
@sirius132025 күн бұрын
@@Real_Moon-Moon Yeah, I know that, but you are trying to make the scammer say the code wihtout you saying it. Basically, he/2FA sends a SMS code and the same code over Marketplace and you confirm. Then you do it vece versa
@shirothefish968810 күн бұрын
The problem is that you give them the code. Doesn't matter what they send you
@sirius132010 күн бұрын
@@shirothefish9688 No, you don't. Example: SMS: 777888. Then ask the scammer to send you the same code over marketplace, so: Marketplace: 777888. You answer: Marketplace: "The codes match. Now vice versa." Now you send a code over SMS and Marketplace and let them confirm

The Amazon one with the lube? I think I had a family member I'm NC with pull something kinda like that to try to trick me into breaking NC with her. She logged into my old Amazon account and ordered something using a gift card so it would be in my name and had it shipped to her house, then called my grandparents to tell me that a package of mine showed up at her house and I should come pick it up. :| They went ahead and got it from her and brought it to me when I told them I wasn't interested. Immediately went and made sure the account was deactivated after.

I was scammed out of a professional camera. I wanted to do things I can’t comment on KZbin without losing comment privileges (not that crazy, you weirdo, but community guidelines feel strict) It was the worst of my adult life.
