Brilliant artists, aren't they? All of the wonderful people at Larian, the ones that design the characters, write their stories, model them, create the textures, give them a voice, acting and capture their facial expressions, and, of course, the write and perform the soundtrack...all of it leads to us caring, genuinely, about a character, even if we know they're 1s and 0s to the point where disappointing or hurting them causes us genuine pain... Humans have made a lot of things that are genuinely breathtaking, and while BG3 isn't the pyramid of Giza or Stonehenge, I find it no less of a pinacle of human achievement and artistry ❤

Is it possible they’d just be indoctrinated by the cult/absolute instead? And the brain was only spamming “turn these adventurers” signals for your group to keep The Emperor on guard and worn down. The brain seems to want to keep most people’s tadpoles incubated until the invasion. Because you can wait a long time in Act 1 before recruiting party members and they’re all fine despite no close proximity Prism protection.

To defend SH for a minute, she makes it clear that she believes her life has no purpose at this point. She’s lost everything and has nothing left to keep her going. If she is convinced to spare and free the Nightsong, she is given a new journey to find her parents and discover her potential without Shar. Without this hope, becoming a mindflayer or falling to the Shadow Curse could be seen as a mercy to her.

My not just use a dagger? or even poison? Seems far less painless and quicker compared to getting eaten by shadow demons or worse becoming a monstrosity. There is no logical upside to this. When it happened to me, my reaction was "Really?" Wish they allowed us to find a mindlfayer version of her later. I expect she didnt even make it out of the shadow cursed lands. Though funny enough, another outcome would be if shar protected her from turning. That should be within her abilities.

That is if you even talked to her at any point during Act 1. You can actually fully ignore Shadowheart which leads to you being very confused about this XD. In my first playthrough i had myself (Cleric), Astarion, Gale and Karlach with me. I never really talked to Shadowheart so the only times she got any kind of exposure was when she had the whole fight with Lae'zel and afterwards nothing. I didn't know she'd leave me because i had no clear indication that i should've taken her with me XD The pointers towards taking her with you into the Mausoleum and Gauntlet of Shar are literally only when you actively talk to her AND if you have her with you. Heck in my 2nd Playthrough Shadowheart already went on and on about Shar for a lot of the Banter between Companions... And like 2 hours later she acted like it was a very big reveal that she's a Sharran XD. BG3 doesn't keep the consistency too hard, heck if you're playing Multiplayer you can literally break Space-Time by causing Wyll to totally ignore the fact you already recruited Karlach xD

This makes sense. Apparently you have just enough of a rapport with her that you *know* she's aiming to become a Dark Justiciar. That she's aiming to kill the Nightsong, because frankly, that's all she knows. Shar made it so that she doesn't remember anything else. And then, you enter the Gauntlet without her. Confront the Nightsong without her. You take away the one choice she's ever known. You take away her purpose. And you don't have enough of a relationship with her to offer her anything in return. So, she leaves. Even if that means turning into a Mindflayer.

Even if you do interact with her a fair amount and learn about her wanting to become a dark justiciar on a first playthrough what happens with the Nightsong isn't brutally obvious until you actually get there, maybe if your already more lore aware than I was at the time but they could do more to make it brutally obvious she wants to tag along, this happened on my first playthrough and I couldn't help laughing at it because it really is a matter of how tf was I supposed to know if you never said a thing about it? They could have easily added something to trigger for her once you got close to this point or as soon as you enter act 2 even, just something to make the importance of her being there clear, at least with Astarion his main plot point involves Cazador and more importantly he will actually tell you about it, I feel like the way she is written Shadowhearts story is by far the easiest to miss just on accident. She acts as if this was definitely deliberate and you forced her away saying you denied her the chance, like girl, you could have just came along and asked, I don't even know how she would know what tf just happened if she was at camp the entire time to begin with I can only assume Shar herself tells her somehow like sorry I already had a healer didn't realize it would be treated as a crime against you personally

@@holyheckism So stay silent the first time it gives you the chance to talk and then you need to throw a persuasion roll the next time it gives you the chance to talk by telling her she doesn't have to do this. You need a fifteen I think. If you succeed, she'll throw the spear over the ledge. You need good approval with her I think though. I had a pretty good approval score with her. I hope this helps.

Yeah. If you play as semi good and build a relationship with her, it's easy. But you can make it hard. I did an evil playthru and kept telling Shart that Shar is the way to go. Had high approval. And when we finally met the Nightsong I stepped back and Shart chose to kill the Nightsong. On one of my good playthru's I wasn't really focused on getting her approval and pretty much ignored her before meeting the Nightsong. Had to roll to persuade her not to kill.

It seems that the people who are commenting don't understand that people can be complex and have internal conflicts. Shadowheart has been brainwashed, lost all memory of the past and been tricked by a bitch goddess. She's clearly lost her purpose in life and is trying to make up for it by trying to please her goddess. The problem is that she doesn't realise at first that this goddess herself is the cause of the misfortune in her life. Of all the character arcs, hers is the most tragic. Anyone who just mocks her or speaks ill of her hasn't grasped the complexity of the character.

She is an overrated and a bitchy asshole, and repulses me to no end; even when I tried to give her a chance I just ended up giving her to Viconia. People are allowed to be repulsed by her, even when they do understand her struggle. Happened to me on my very first solo run, cuz i didn't know you sometimes NEED specific characters for specific interactions like this one. The very first would be Lae'zel trying to get you to the mountain pass & creche but you can basically talk her out of it. This was the very first one, that actually had consequences if you don't bring Shadowheart along. Still not the moment that made me feel the worst, cuz that was romanced Karlachs reaction after you had some fun time with Mizora, but this one was still pretty rough.

Her hair color and attitude tells me all I need to know that you didn’t make the correct good or evil choices. If you had made all the correct good choices she’d have blonde hair and a loving attitude. In an evil play through if you supported her in her Dark Justiciar journey at every evil option you’d have a solid companion with a loyal attitude. To make alternating choices in a play through that allow for some things but deny others is how you end up with this outcome.

@@destinygalearies7382 there are specific quests you need to have specific companions on, if they are still with you by that point in time. Even in a good play through I despise Wyll and refused to use him except when it came to the specific missions I needed him on to get the desired outcome. But again, this goes back to my original comment of making incorrect choices regardless of why type of play through you are going for.

I don't think shadowheart cares if she turns to a tadpole. She probably wasn't even considering it. She's angry and hurt and just wants to be away from Tav. People thinking she should have stayed even though she now hates Tav. I'm guessing they'd wake up with her blade at their throat like laezel. At this point the game has been out long enough for people picking apart every little thing. The amount of people thinking characters should stick with Tav even when Tav screws them over is crazy. What does survival matter when what they thought was their purpose is gone?

My first time defeating balthazar left shadowheart knocked out and no potions was helping her, so I had to free the nightsong, kill her and heal her at withers. That made her go this crazy and bail, and all my companions were like "oh well :)"

All I do is bring her along to bleed on the different altars. After Shadowheart cuts herself on an altar I unlock the door and leave the trial and Shar complains about how we must not be good enough to finish her trials. I ofc dngaf about Shar's opinion. I then get Yurgir's orb and then use the knock spell to open the other door rather than get the other three orbs from the other trials. By having Shadowheart bleed over all the trial altars and pretending to be okay with her Shar worship I can get her approval to at least medium. Then all I have to do is not interefere and Shadowheart will spare the Nightsong I also kill Balthazar inside the temple as well as get the spear of night using other party members before inviting Shadowheart along because it has no consequences and it's an easier fight in the temple

Funny thing, I accidentally did the whole Temple of Shar without Shadowheart in my party, like at all. I just didn't think about it until I got to this scene and there was a moment of "... ... ... OH RIGHT!" So I had to reload like an hour of saves and take her with me through the whole thing.

That last line really gets to me because its what i always wished for my best friend after she blackmailed and left me. I always said i hoped she'd forget me someday, or at least not have anything good to say. I hope she has a low opinion of me or none. I hope she doesn't suffer by what she chose. My first playthru... she was knocked off the side by Balthazar, we freed the Nightsong, then rezzed Shadowheart at camp.... and she left. My first playthru's are always whacked... I also thought Karlach was evil and used Sorcerer distance spell and killed her from range without ever talking to her, all the Tieflings got kicked out of the grove and got slaughtered on the road, the Harper outpost fell and everyone was turned, and Isabella joined Ketheric... lol
