I thought that by exposing myself to this dynamic, I'd fight fire (my own insecurities) with fire (polyamory) and said yes. Of course, I was wrong. 6 months in I broke things off ; lack of reciprocity and gaslighting were all too common. She was freeloading off an ex's spotify account and another ex's netflix account with no remorse or acknowledgement that it was odd. I'm glad I didn't let this dynamic go on longer than it already had. Therapy and active personal work allowed me to grow and respect myself better than before. Better be alone than in bad company.

Started going out with another girl and I was okay with that because I was clueless about how abusive she really was. A week in and she starts telling me how much better the other girl is and how I am so lucky to have her because nobody could ever love me like she does. I told her I was looking for a date as well and that since we were poly I wanted to get out more. She threw a 3 night hissy fit and wanted to break up calling me unfaithful and declaring that we were no longer poly. Yep, a few years later I finally escaped that hell of a relationship and am so much happier now also yes she was right nobody ever could "love" me as badly as she, relationships have been much better since.

The ONLY "open" relationships that sometimes work for awhile are the ones that START open. The ones that become open are almost exclusively someone wanting to cheat but they're concerned they may lose out if caught so they attempt to have it both ways where they give themselves entirely to others whilst still getting whatever other thing the soon to be soulless husk offers. What actually happens in real life is the person who is in control of the lease holds all the power here. We are in that much of a rental crisis.
