Most calls that weren't bullshit (Lots of dumb calls for paramedics happen where there's not an injury requiring their service) Are absolutely preventable by either being educated, or thinking shit through before you do it. Or even being aware of what's going on around you (Especially true with car accidents, don't be distracted while driving, or terribly sleep deprived.) Legit doesn't take much to think out risk versus reward, but so many people only consider the reward and disregard the risk without taking those ten seconds to think, or realizing how easily they can be seriously hurt.

Secondly, you're absolutely right some people don't have much of a choice but to put themselves in risky situations, this is absolutely true and I feel for those people because I am frequently one of them, but if you're getting too tired to drive (Like you catch yourself nodding off), just pull over. A tactic I use is to bite the inside of my cheeks and force myself to stay awake because pain. Not a great idea, but works in a pinch at least long enough so you can pull over somewhere safe. Truth is, accidents will happen no matter what, but there's a good portion that can be avoided. Like say nobody touched their phones while driving, car accidents would absolutely decline by a fair margin. Also I think it's better to lose your job and have to find a new one rather than pay for damages, and medical bills (Medical bills especially in the US) And that's not even considering you can be seriously injured, crippled, or killed. Either way, planning beforehand and realizing why you're so tired and addressing that will usually be a way to keep yourself from being in that position again. Not always, but more often than not. Thirdly, I am not a paramedic. I don't deserve the respect those people do, nothing I do is nearly that important. I do have EMT training, which is why I have gotten to talk to so many paramedics and do ride alongs where I saw how many stupid calls they get.
