Inside trip or constant movement is way better than squaring up with somebody twice your size so a bear hug isn’t crazy but trying to suplex someone twice your size is 100% a suicidal move

I'm a big guy 250+ pounds with training in several art forms over last 30 years. This instructor gives great explanations for his art form that really works. Most average people are not very skinny these days. This is why this guys info is valuable. A big instructor is more close what people in the US are. Moving a heavy guy that is well trained is different.

I wish someone would create self-defense tactics for someone like me who's a disabled US Navy Veteran that's had 4 spine surgeries (Fused from C2 - L1). It sucks feeling vulnerable. The hip drop is for sure correct, but that face peel won't work on someone who knows grappling unless you have a significant strength advantage or they are unable to lock hands behind your waist. This guy probably stronger than 90 percent of people out there and not many can lock their hands behind his waist, so it will work for him on most people.

As a short man… I suggest grabbing the pockets on both sides to avoid being slammed…. I’ve never been slammed and I’ve always grabbed the pockets area and then went for a trip to land on top and negate the height difference… just saying!!! Of course, following up by getting opponents back and securing a rear choke for the tap…. Just a well trained Marine, no need to follow what works for me… oh… I’m old man strong too though!!!

I have never seen that move in the UFC, so my initial thought is that it is probably not a good move. If it was a good move, then we would see it in the UFC. The position demonstrated happens often in the UFC, and UFC fighters DO NOT use the suggested technique to get out of the bear hug position.

This instructional video isn't about the individuals size. The instructor is just a bigger guy. The students are smaller. However, if you tried that technique amongst guys that are the same size, you would find out how effective that actually is. The moment he puts his arms down and lowers himself, he put himself in a position of control, rather that the controlled. He also has good foot position. Watch the opponent as the instructor drops his center of gravity.
