British police are more professional, better trained, and subject to more rigorous background checks than the ones we have in America. However, your prison sentences are way too lenient. Maybe the UK and US could do an exchange: British officers train American cops on more respectful and humane policing, and then American lawmakers and prosecutors train their British colleagues on how to secure harsher sentences for violent criminals.
@bekabeano
@bekabeano 2 күн бұрын
Agree with that however our sentences are more lenient as we simply do not have the capacity to house them. We are a small island. We have approx 141 prisons. America has approx 1566 state prisons, 96 federal prisons, 3116 local jails and around 18000 local police stations. Our police stations ( approx 355) have anywhere from 2 - 30 holding cells. For reference my local police station has 4 cells., our local city police station has 12 holding cells. Current prisoners in USA 1.8 million to a population of 334 million so 0.53% of population incarcerated Current prisoners in UK 87000 to a population of 67million so 0.12 % of population incarcerated We do need better sentences similar to USA however we really do lack space and means 😂 A lot of our prisons are also ancient and dilapidated no where near as high tech and new as American ones seem!

Here in the civilised world we also try to focus on rehabilitation rather than locking people away forever. I certainly agree that some prison sentences should be harsher. But I also think more time served isn't necessarily a more effective lesson.

3 suspects planning on killing and "chopping up" a 4th man initially run but at threat of being rammed by a Volvo, with no push bar/brush guard, calmly give up and become compliant??? People talk about the difference between British and American cops, let's talk about the difference between British and American criminals. We have people who will run until you completely destroy/disable or box in their vehicle, then scatter on foot over a suspended driver's license and a bag of weed. Seeing kidnappers who planned on killing a man over some stolen drugs calmly give up without so much as a dent in their vehicle or an attempt to flee on foot is absolutely insane. Then they're handcuffed in front, and put in the completely normal back seat of Volvo without being searched. We have people who will escalate a simple traffic infraction until their windows are busted out, and they are dragged from the vehicle and tased kicking and screaming, and they will still continue assaulting/battering officers. I've seen a guy go on a pursuit wreck his car, get arrested, and slip out of the cage into the front of the police car and take off again. Not to mention all the DUI arrests that would have ruined that back seat and kicked the windows out. Seeing totally compliant criminals is wild.

I think most of it comes down to how the idea of 'policing by consent' is used in UK law enforcement. The whole system and its processes are set up in a way that tries to ensure that people don't fear the police in the same way that some people do in the US; the chances of dying due to an interaction with the police in the UK is dramatically lower, and therefore the idea of running isn't as attractive. Also the population density and infrastructure probably plays a part, its much harder to outrun the police in a tightly packed British town with its narrow roads and generally lower speeds / smaller vehicles... whereas the average residential street in the US is about as wide and straight as some of our motorways, some of them going in a straight line for 10s of miles, making it much easier to outrun police in the first place.
@NVBodine
@NVBodine 2 күн бұрын
@@ryanthomson6756 maybe, seems a little counterintuitive though, I think people in the US would take a less threatening police force as more of a license to run because there are less consequences. The town/city structure and geography make sense to an extent, and obviously there are criminals in the UK that try to flee on foot or by scooter/motorcycle, this video is not representative of all UK criminals, but it seems like more of a problem in the US, often for crimes/infractions that aren't as bad as the charge for fleeing and resisting/obstructing. That said, I think if you dropped a department of UK officers over here, they would struggle, and start to become more and more like the US officers. You're right in that public perception plays a huge role, there is a strong anti-police culture in many areas of the US, many people, especially those in disadvantaged communities are raised from a young age to not talk to or cooperate with police, they are the enemy, even those who don't commit crimes and often require police assistance know not to talk to the police, they aren't your friends and don't want to help, they just want to find a reason to arrest you. This has been made worse by the medias portrayal of minority suspects that are shot by Police. Even when justified, the media portrays it as racially motivated, making the suspect, often a hardened criminal with record of violent crimes out to be a saint, alter boy, and civil rights martyr. Nobody listens to the facts or logic/reason anymore, the politicians and media are divisive because that's where the profits are, and everything is an excuse to allow people to feel or appear victimized. The "victim mentality" plays a role as well, many people refuse to comply, escalate a situation unnecessarily, antagonize the officers, ignore every warning and explanation of what will happen if they don't comply, force the officers to use force, then cry about it afterwards, often putting on a show for the cameras. It seems like every suspect that forces use of force suddenly can't breathe once handcuffed (which they often scream, not realizing being able to scream means you can breathe,) or scream that the officers are hurting them any time they are touching them, then they scream about their "rights" being violated and that they're going to "have a lawsuit" which is really the motivation behind the drama. Many see police interaction as a chance to force them to use force, then turn around a sue, which almost never works. Some go as far as to accuse the officers of abuse and/or sexual assault, contact the media, and civil rights organizations who jump on it with no due diligence, and once the department is forced to release the body and dashcam footage showing nothing happened, they quietly drop it or sweep it under the rug without ever correcting their original story. These days with body cams, the police are more polite, patient, and professional than ever, and yes there is still corruption and abuse, sadly it's unavoidable with any position of power, absolute power corrupts absolutely, and even the good officers often ignore or cover for the bad, though police arresting corrupt officers is becoming much more common than it used to be. The system isn't perfect, not by a long shot, but the majority of the problem lies in cultural issues, and misinformation. So many people read about "their rights" on tick-tock and Facebook, and become convinced that they don't have to comply with police, or show identification, or insure/register their vehicle, exit the vehicle on request, that police are required to give business cards on demand, call a supervisor on demand, cannot search a female without a female officer, or have to tell them why they're arrested, and if they don't read them their rights immediately it's an unlawful arrest, etc. Which is all complete BS, but people read a few posts and think they know the law better than the officers, which they eventually find out is wrong, the hard way, and yet many do it again the next time. Idk what UK prisons are like, but that's another possible motivating factor. Many US prisons are somewhat inhumane, and when you add in the corrupt guards, quality as cruel and unusual punishment. Unfortunately prisons are kind of closed systems, so there is no way to prove the abuse. I remember one story where a mentally ill inmate was bothering the guards, so they tosses him in a shower that locks and is controlled from the outside, and left him there for a few hours with it turned all the way to hot, which they often did as punishment, the water was so hot it killed him and he was covered in burns with his skin separated and coming off in some areas, plus the other inmates houses near the shower heard him screaming for help until he went quiet. What happened was obvious given the video evidence, inmate testimony, and pictures of his body. The story got out, and there was an investigation, and even pressure from local politicians and authorities, but the warden, guards, and coroner all colluded to cover it up. As obvious as it was looking at the pictures, the coroner reported no burns on his body. Eventually people gave up or lost interest, and as obvious a cover up as it was, they just denied denied denied until it went away. This epidemic of professional victims that are used to having society pander to them, the misinformation, racial divisiveness, the media's exploitation of tragedy, the fear of police and an inhumane "for profit" prison system (btw if you want to see something unbelievable, look up how much it costs to keep one person incarcerated for 1 year. It runs from roughly $30k per person in some states to $556k per person in NYC in 2021, which now houses over 6k inmates. They spent 1.25 billion in 2021, but had a lower jail population due to COVID. Projected budget for 2025 is 2.6 billion, for 6k people. They could give each inmate a quarter million per year to not commit crimes, and save money,) all play a part, and finally I think American's being armed plays a big role, police are all armed and appear more militarized, and also must treat each suspect like they might be armed, leading to the police drawing their weapons, shouting commands, restraining people, decentralizing people, being a little more aggressive and rough handling suspects, and doing many things for officer safety that people find intrusive or extreme, and can cause police to become very aggressive when people reach for things or put their hands in their pockets, etc. which unarmed suspects don't really understand and take personally or find abusive, especially when drunk, but is necessary when literally anyone could be packing a switched Glock and can decide at any moment they would rather kill a cop and take their chances than go to prison.
@horizonbc4580
@horizonbc4580 5 сағат бұрын
@@ryanthomson6756 I 100% agree with you, but I also think it has a lot to do with American's cultural stance towards authority (the whole "freedom" and "don't treat on me" thing) as well as tough sentencing and GUNS. Guns make every interaction potentially deadly for both parties in the US and someone is much more likely to run from the police if they have an illegal firearm on them, even if they havent commit a major offence. Also UK prison sentences are extremely weak, meaning people aren't risking their whole future when getting stopped by police.

The driver is the type of real criminal the public want the cops catching, not harassing ordinary citizens for sweet FA. Even here the cops turned out to be dealing with a real crime and a real criminal but they didn't know any of that to begin with. When they highly aggressively abused the rights of all the people in the car. So, it tells you that the 50 plus other times they are dealing with just a group of innocent young people not breaking the law, the cops treat them exactly the same. The male cop openly said the most important thing was to get complete control of the people in the car, firstly controlling the situation and doing what they did are not exactly the same thing. Secondly the most important thing is to respect the citizens rights unless they have specific facts to justify otherwise. The manner of how the police gain control is more important than simply treating every young person they engage, as if they are automatically some type of criminal without having any real facts they are. And no to people who think this proves the cops need to abuse the citizens because the 1 time in 50 the cops are justified in their approach confirms that mentality. Well, no it is not a good enough excuse to do this type of aggressive abusive policing to anyone unless they know beforehand, they are dealing with this type of situation and nasty pos criminal types like the driver. The female cop even said in her 20-year career she had never come across this type of situation, so this is a shxt example to justify these type of draconian methods and approach of cops. I wonder how many times in her 20 years as a cop did, she do this aggressive abusive policing against totally innocent citizens. At this point I have only watched up to 11:46 in the video so I don't know yet if this is a police propaganda video to try justify aggressive American style policing. The fact is no matter what cops say to try justify using highly aggressive tactics and practices, were the citizens they are all treated as if they are guilty until proven innocent. The only reason they love to use these police state type of methods is because it makes it easier for them. Imagine if everybody could do that in their job it would be wall to wall tyranny.

LEGALS Why were they searched? Who knows ...as s1 PACE Wasn't followed... name, ID, Station, what they expect to find. Nothing.
@newblor
@newblor 2 күн бұрын
I frequently criticise poor policing of auditors, but nothing wrong with this stop at all. The foundation of PACE is reasonable grounds. Reports of a violent crime (people fighting) and a fleeing vehicle are absolutely grounds to stop, detain and search (for weapons) all those in the vehicle. The police don't have to verbalise the why to a suspect in those circumstances. Securing the reported threat is the first action and they can explain why afterwards.

So, no answer. I'll try another way - the immediate arrest and cuffing of the driver without warning or even any words. Which of these requirements are met: To ascertain a person’s name or address. This would be considered an arrest necessity if the police had reason to believe they were being given false information. To prevent physical harm. This includes harm to the person being arrested, whether from others or from themselves. To prevent loss of or damage to property. This would particularly apply if the individual has a history of theft or criminal damage, for instance. To prevent an offence against public decency. This only applies if members of the public are going about their business nearby and cannot reasonably avoid the individual. If there is an unlawful obstruction to the highway. In this case, there should be some indication that the obstruction will continue or be repeated without an arrest. To protect a child or a vulnerable person. This includes both the physical and mental wellbeing of the person. To prevent the investigation of an offence or the prosecution of the suspect being hindered. For instance, if there was reason to believe the individual would not attend court following a summons, this would suggest an arrest necessity. I'll wait ...

So why would the victim of a violent crime not trust the police to protect them I wonder why could it be. The cop really thought it was a good move to talk about getting intel from the guy on camera. So, what part of him fearing they were going to unalive him or make many slices on him did you not understand officer. What type of criminals do you think they are officer obviously not the type he needs to be seen as if he would snitch on them especially if he wants to live. You saying to him on camera about getting intel from him of course was purely for your benefit total propaganda nothing that will help that guy with his reality but you know that and could care less.

@@OMG_stories So they haven't got it "completely" wrong, but instead correctly realized the first opinion did not work. The Bradford guys did not seem to have even build an opinion untill correct. "Completely" leaves no way out. Completely wrong implies major incorrect actions. That s how the phrase is used.

UK police might be authoritarian with their free speech enforcement but at least they have a sense of accountability in a chase. In the US and damage by police in a chase is blamed on the suspect they’re chasing.

Listen, there are some things here you're clearly unaware of, and it makes you look a bit foolish that you can't figure this out on your own. 1.Unless a person is under arrest you cannot take his phone in the UK. 2. He is placed in the back of the police car where there's a CCTV camera recording picture and sound that the police can use afterwards. 3. There's 4 people in the car and only 3 officers at first. The main thing is to seperate the suspects and get them under control.
