@@cheat200 Nah there's no Total War game where you could paint the whole map in 8 turns lol. Tauroxs mechanics in WW2 can get pretty broken and ridiculous and you can paint the whole map if you min-max in a stupid low amount of turns in WH2 though

Always loved playing as the English and getting attacked by the Mongols; set up the longbowmen's stakes behind the gates then sit back and wait for the cavalry to come rushing through.

I had once a campaign where i rushed Jerusalem as the HRE and by the time the Mongols showed up i had it upgraded to the point where i could recurit Pikes, 3 untis behind the gate and after their Siege Towers died i let the Ram through and then the Hordes came in and died to a Hugbox of Pikes.

@@Laucron They are stupidly overpowered. They essentially kill any cavalry going into them while running. It also works on your own cavalry so make sure to walk them over stakes instead of running.

@@Laucron yep; full on stinky cheese - there are certain archer units in the game that can set up sharpened stakes in front of them when you're setting up formations - cavalry units charging into them are pretty much insta-killed. If you set them up around the gate and deploy stakes then when the AI breaks through they send their cavalry in at full pelt through the gates and straight into horse kebabs. If you have a multi-walled fortress/town or whatever then it has to be on the innermost gate, otherwise they bring the ram through and it destroys the stakes.

This infantry unit is a bunch of absolute donkeys! You noodle, why did you get them? Just cancel this building you donut! These cavalry units are frozen! You're literally priding yourself on your cavalry, but then using frozen horses!

Never played ME2 so I just noticed how high and beautiful those wall were and the small doors they use to go up and down walls from the inside. If this was possible in 2006, I see no reason why WH3 should have such awkward, tiny walls in 2022!

WH sieges are terrible imo but ME2's sieges had their own issues with pathfinding which is why they gave up and simplified it in WH TW. which i feel is what WH TW is, they couldn't pull of the depth so they made it vast but shallow.

I love sieges in medieval 2. Gates are a nightmare for the AI to attack. I once destroyed a full army of dismounted feudal knights and spearmen by putting my only 3 units of huscarls directly at the gate in a blobb. They never got passed me.

As much as I'm not a fan of the 45-60 min long SYDB vids, I would happily have watched another 30 mins of this as SYDC are always more involved and I learn a lot more. Still better than watching Domination battles in TWWH3 though! Love the change of pace and game.

I just came back to medieval 2 after like 10 years and was having a real hard time with battles, campaign was easy but the way battles work is so different from total war warhammer. Melee and cav feel so much beefier in this. Like yeah range is good but the AI in field battles actually tries not to get shot lol

Are you playing with any mods? Some mods make the AI respond and act better too. Skynet AI or Rob's Battle AI are typically the most used ones. I'm currently playing a Total Vanilla Beyond Campaign with an AI submod and it's a great experience. Really improved on medieval 2

@@DillsyYourDaddy67 No mods! this was my first campaign in med 2 since I had it on cd as a kid so I did england vanilla. And man I sucked on the battles. Like in wh2 it seems enimies will rush you even if you have 15 sisters of avelorn and a fire wizard. but in med 2 if you out number them they stay put and shit and it not as easy to fix beaten up units as wh2

@@bofad6074 exactly! Plus if you are attacking the enemy actually positions themselves on a hill and takes defensive positions. Yet they will come down and attack you if you have ranged superiority. Although, my biggest presence by far is that the Med2 AI doesn’t get totally insane cheats even on the highest difficulty

The idea that elite infantry is totally useless on very hard battle is too much for me. when cheese becomes necessary you've done too much. I tried sfo recently and it feels like the infantry is all around beefier

Infantry is useless on the high difficulties. I understand the AI needs some buffs but in no way should a militia tier unit beat an elite infantry unit in melee.

you can put archers at the bottom right where the enemy stands fighting on the wall. They will kill those who stand at the edge of the wall. Using fire arrows is actually pretty good in that situation since the enemy gets double morale damage

why didn't you thin the enemy infantry in the first siege with your archers? they could just hit the troops that are waiting to scale the siege tower and you may had less losses. love the medieval 2 videos they always have tips in them XD

if you put archers on the wall left or right to the zone where the infantry would land when exiting the siege tower, and underneath the wall, and shoot the units on the walls, peasant archers are able to devastate higher tier units no problem

When fighting the Mongols I always just sent one unit of my worst troop outside the gate. The Mongol Horsemen would just rush it and get within arrow range. Then Id send the unit back through the gate and the Mongol Horsemen would go "Oh, no one to kill anymore." and turn around and casually walk back to their position. All the while I'd be picking off with archers on the wall.

With Ballista towers you can easily hold Constantinople. In Stainless Steel I once 4 full stack Muslim armies attack at once. The towers destroyed the bulk of them.

Wouldn't losing archers cost you ammunition in the sense that your volleys get smaller?

old comment, but in older total war ammunition isn't counted as a number of volleys, its counted as the overall amount of ammunition for the unit. so if you have 100 archers that have a total of 500 arrows, they can fire 5 times. but if for some reason your archers take casualties before they get the chance to fire and you only have 50 left, those 50 archers still have a total of 500 arrows and can now fire 10 times. Sometimes your unit gets placed in situations where not all the men can fire, like when some are in melee or the unit is partially obstructed, so the unit doesnt use ammunition as quickly since only some are firing

Idk. I feel the player for sure should of done some smarter things. Like... Build his goddamn roads!!! Hell! Spearmen! 2 of them are a lifesaver! Or 1 unit of cav! - This is coming from a guy who can use 40 cav vs 800 Spearmen and only loss 16 cav and win. Another couple strategies would be trying to cheese the timer to 20 minutes. Ooo if they had money I would of suggested catapult. Well... Only if it were mainly infantry. (For the Turks more so)

This video reminds me, please consider Rome 2 and Shogun 2 battles if they're actually winnable (I know a lot of them will have to be written off since in those games often there just isn't any trick you can pull out of a hat to win it). As a corallary, when Warhammer 3's problems get fixed and most of the fanbase move there, Warhammer 2 will be a classic with a soft spot in our hearts, so if people send winnable disaster battles of those, give them a spin now and then even if the majority of files are from the new and improved Warhammer 3.
