That beautiful woman in red, is the one and only Venetta Fields, one of the most amazing voices in the industry. The bloke beside her is Lindsay Field (no relation!). You'll also see a blonde lass in a lot of John's videos, she is Lisa Edwards. Lisa was featured in the video for "Angels". All of these singers are remarkably talented in their own rights. So glad you have discovered John. He has been around for a long time. He had his first hit in the 60's with a quirky little number called "Sadie the Cleaning Lady". At all of his concerts and live shows, the audience would stir him by shouting for him to sing "Sadie", he would always react with a very joking "No!" "You're a pack of mongrels". He knew the people loved to stir him up about such a "daggy" song, and he would go along with it. It was the song that launched his career, but it is kinda old fashion... He had hits in every decade from the 60's through to the 00's. He also had a tv show in the 70's called "Bobby Dazzler", it was about the "adventures of a pop idol"...I think the powers-that-be were trying to do a sort of aussie version of The Partridge Family/The Monkees/Bobby Sherman type of thing...it didn't last very long, it was a bit daggy, but I suppose it helped with a bit of publicity for a while. He also hosted a variety show on the ABC for a while, again it didn't last too long. I think "they" were trying to make him fit some sort of "pop-star/idol" mold ... you just can't pigeon-hole a talent like John's... When John decided to record his "come-back" album, "Whispering Jack", his manager Glen Wheatley, mortgaged his own home to finance the album. The first hit from that album was "You're The Voice", and the rest is history, as they say...the whole album was a brilliant showcase of John's amazingly beautiful voice. If you get the chance, it's well worth a listen, and anything else you can get your hands on too... oh dear, it looks like I've written a bit of a novel, but hey!, that's what happens when an Aussie gets going on the topic of John Farnham...sorry, not sorry... :))

Sweetness, at 70 he can still do exactly that! An absolute freak! Oh, and just quietly, in the early 80s John was smoking an alleged 60 cigarettes a day, he quit aaaaaand his voice got BETTER!

Johns back up singers and band have been with him for years. Every concert, same team.. Even today they will still sing with him. John is 72 years old today and still singing like the clappers. Check out the clip from 2020 The Fire Relief Concert when he sings You're The Voice with a young First Australian Mitch Tambo, who sings part of the song in Aboriginal. It's goosebumps material.

I love your reaction, I thought you were going to end up on the floor lol. John Farnham a British born Australian mainly stuck to concerts in his home country and quite a few over here in New Zealand. He never really was what you would call a mega star, but throughout Aussie & NZ he is an icon. With such a powerful voice it was the live performances he loved, interacting with his fans, John would strive to make sure the crowd walked away from a stunning concert. He even had a bit of joke here & there. For me he has the most powerful, unique voice I've ever heard. Another thing about him every time he said about retiring, nope he just could not do it. Farnham is in his early 70's and it was only a few years back he did a small concert in Auckland NZ, he never missed a note just as awesome as the time before. I really hope you check out some of his other songs, 'Thats Freedom' 'Reasons' 'Two Strong Hearts' 'You're The Voice' and the ever popular 'Pressure Down' of course they're my favourites but every time he sings live it's with his fans in mind, also it's more powerful. Long time awesome band members include Angus Burchall: drums, Brett Garsed: guitar, Lindsay Field & Lisa Edwards: backing vocals. Also backing vocalist is Vedette Fields, she sings amazing grace with John Live. I hope this gives you more insight to the great icon, at least most of what I know.

There's also the bass player Wayne Nelson providing backing vocals. He was a great singer too, he sang a few tracks in LRB and eventually became their lead singer. Night Owls is probably his most famous track.

All you say is true about John. Power, range, tasteful use of embellishments and vocal clarity that enable him to sing with great orchestras such as the MSO and rock bands. US born Vinetta's CV is very impressive, but she nevertheless considered working with Farno a highlight. Lindsay is a solo artist, but content to be onstage and playing a backseat role to this great vocalist. Celine Dion declared him the best, which is a mighty complement given the people she has performed with, including Barbra Streisand.

My fav song he did with LRB, such a powerfull performance. It's a shame that the songs that were wrote during his time weren't very strong for the most part, but there were some greats, like this. You should check out his live performance of an earlier LRB song called "Cool Change" great song, great harmonies and John brings his "Voice" to it to launch it into the stratosphere.

I think you should do a "bunch of his stuff". The backing singers are Venetta Fields and LIndsay Field (no relation). Lindsay is still supporting him today along with Lisa Edwards who I think joined him soon after this video. His band has been with him for many years. You're on the mark with your comments about John's talent and abilities as a singer / performer / entertainer; but you REALLY need to let the song play out without the multiple pauses. It breaks the performance and continuity; because the one thing you are missing out on is the impact of John Farnham's performance of the song. I'd prefer hear you talk for 5 mins post performance rather than the multiple breaks through the song.
