This is way better than my usual fighting style. I used to just wrap up in a ball and pray for death, but this whole "fighting back" idea has merit! Thank you very much, sir.

Years ago, I was maliciously attacked by 6 individuals at once…when standard defense began to fail…the “ball curl” technique saved my life. You can’t block 12 hands, and 12 feet.

From what I understand of how street fights work, any move you make is simply based on instinct. It may not necessarily be the smartest combative move to make, but when you're in the heat of a fight, you're of course not going to think strategically.

Very good demonstration. I was in a similar situation where a guy wanted to mug me. I got thrown to the ground and covered up. By sheer luck I blocked the Kicks to my head and got the timing right, my backpack helped as a sheild. I got back up and they looked shocked that I had sustained almost no damage. I always wondered what the technical defence would be; thanks for showing us. My only concern with this tactic is groin being exposed at times and the grind of concrete on your back, cheers.

Due to all of my deep respect towards Dr.Mark's knowledge,whether psychology or self defence,is it going to work in a real street fight,while being punched wildly?I mean,can human brain remember all of it in a force majeure situation??
@cammozzer1345
@cammozzer1345 2 жыл бұрын
I feel this technique is unrealistic as putting your legs in these kind of positions when the attacker is going mental there isn’t much you can do to prepare for it when you’re on the ground. I think something better is trying to train how to either get them down while you’re down or get up quickly to get them down instead of guarding on the ground because they will just kick and swing wildly using all their power. Just my opinion
@ziyarzayev3223
@ziyarzayev3223 2 жыл бұрын
@@cammozzer1345 I totally agree,furthermore best option on my point of view is just training to roll out or pump out changing angles,rather than staying on the same spot and being an easy target.Its a street fight,so the guy/guys can use baseball bats or whatever instead of punching with gloves.

@@ziyarzayev3223 yeah you’re right, just lying down or guarding using your legs for range I guess can be good but at some point they will find a way to get through that range and maybe jump on you with their weapons as you said

Lying on your back is definitely not an ideal place to be but there are several credible ways it might happen. Maybe you got tackled from behind, you ate a punch and got knocked down or you were seated to begin with. When the attacker is that close, any strike to the head is a potential fight ender. Getting up eventually is a good idea but very dangerous while the attacker is actively giving pressure. That's where distance management using your legs helps out. The position is called "open guard" in grappling and requires quite a bit of practice to get comfortable with. It's by no means a dominant position and is significantly worse when strikes are included. You see it every now and then in MMA and it's a staple in submission wrestling and BJJ. From a self defense PoV a good open guard game could give you the time for help to arrive or improve your chances of getting out intact from terrible to not-great. In any case the techniques presented such as the sweep in 2:50 require practice and sparring to work consistently against a resisting opponent.

One move I saw on a video by Tim Larkin is while you’re on the ground if you have access to one of his legs as he stands over you, you could grab the leg ankle up to the shin, grab the leg in a tight hug squeeze it and roll violently, you can even use an elbow strike just below the knee as you roll violently, that could take his balance and maybe even break a knee?? You can roll towards his left or right along the plane of his hip alignment. I guess you can also roll directly backwards or forwards along the bend of his knee to bend the leg?? But it has to be quick and violent!! And you need to grab the leg really tight and explode into it as you roll!! You could experiment with it??

Catch behind his left ankle with your left hand firmly, using your right elbow smash into his left knee joint. Keep your right elbow in position and push forward while simultaneously pulling his left ankle towards you. This works on both sides and will take him off his feet. From here there's a chance for a left leg joint lock ( ju-jitsu) or scramble into position for multiple groin strikes. Similar to JAMIE TAN above without the roll. Hope this helps- stay safe.

This is more MMA defence, street fights are very different as kicking a downed opponent is common (who punches a downed opponent from a standing position unless you're not allowed to kick?) my worst experience was being pulled backwards to the ground by my collar, he was at my head throwing soccer kicks, it was 1 on 1, but he had friends with him. I protected my head, but he switched to the body (where he kicked me so hard he split my rare vintage 1991 London Monarchs Helmet T-shirt😥) loads of bruising, lacerated eyebrows, side of my nose, under the chin, dislocated jaw, not a fun time. I see you're wearing a hoodie, which is a great handle, how would you avoid/defend this?

Not enough self-defense being taught in BJJ anymore. I was never great on the ground but I am pretty good standing so I took BJJ and Judo to improve my ground game to learn to survive until I can stand up. A guy did a KZbin video based on cctv in the UK and showed that approximately 50% of the fights that do go to the ground end up there because someone slipped, not because of a takedown. Interesting bit of trivia.
