I’m in New Orleans and I hit my centipede hard last week with nitrogen. I waited until after the first true mow of the season. I plan on overseeding mid to late April once temperatures are over 70 consistently. Hoping for the best!

Also in Alabama, I applied Image to my Centipede about 3 weeks ago, and the grass is unaffected, but the weeds are in a struggle. Most have died, others are curling, the couple types to survive will be rewarded with Atrazine in another couple of weeks. Sure is nice to see the running of the stolens as they take back what was so rudely taken from them! After the Atrazine effects, I plan to apply Sta Green Natural Fert to help the centipede kick all azz and take back the yard.
@thangknowa32886 ай бұрын
My above plan has worked well, centipede is doing excellent. If you guys want to try Image, be sure it is the one for Southern Lawns, safe for centipede. The Sta Green Natural Fert is great stuff, I am pleased with the results. Best to get 'em done after green up, but before 90 degree days become the norm! Keep those blades sharp and balanced!

FIRST! Thanks! I can't believe winter is over already! :) I enjoyed your videos from last year. Now I'm started to deal with the weeds before my centipede grass wake up. :) (following the advice from your previous videos) Thanks again! 😍 By the way, last year, my centipede grass was voted the best-looking in my HOA, all thanks to your advice! :) There was a downside to that... all the dogs in the neighborhood also enjoyed my grass too much. :(

Thanks so much for this video. I have been trying to find a primer on centipede with no luck. I used atrozine back in the fall and early February. I really want to attack my weed problem this year to get my lawn under control and looking good. Thanks for your videos!

So nice to see the grass turning green again. Planning to use that 16-0-10 natural fertilizer you suggested around May 1st and also going to try Celsius WG for the first time this year. I've had good luck the last few years getting rid of a ton of Bahia grass in my back yard with MSM TURF, and also used sedge hammer to get rid of a bunch of sedges. Now I mostly just have some random broad leaf weeds & clover in my yard.
@S_Paoli9 ай бұрын
I literally just tried Celsius WG two weeks ago. I used the medium dosage. Unfortunately, it rained two days later, so I saw almost no results. Will have to do it all over again later this week. Not sure if I'm going to try Celsius again... I also have a bottle of Tenacity, so I may give that a try instead. :)

Great video! I’ve got a centipede lawn that I am rehabilitating after many years of relative neglect. We have a ton of Poa and I put down some Tenacity a few weeks ago with some good success. I’ve been pulling as much Poa as I can to limit spread, and I may try one more treatment of Tenacity with Sledgehammer, and then plan to over seed later in the spring/summer.

Great video with easy to digest content! Finally a channel dedicated to centipede… I’ve been hunting for years for one. I’m in lower Alabama myself #wareagle! I had a ton of weeds this year and put down a light amount of 2-4D Amine post emergent. It did the job but hope it wasn’t too harsh on the lawn. Going to put down some 12-0-8 today. Thanks for the tips!

Last year I fertilized in March. BIG mistake. Waiting until mid-May here in coastal NC to fertilize. I also tried pre-emergent (Andersons), and didn't see any difference when looking at maintained neighborhood lawns. I want to overseed this spring to make up for last year's fiasco. I'm thinking a week after first fertilize. Not sure if good idea, or bad idea. Looking forward to your content this year.

I'm here on the coast of NC as well and my lawn is gross to start this year off. I've had the house for 4 years. First year, I did nothing. Lawn look good. Second year, Fertilome Weed and Fee, lawn look Ok, but I wanted better. 3rd year, TruGreen. I feel that this was a mistake. Lawn looked and looks terrible. I wanted to overseed as well but I am trying to be patient. This year, the start of the season is like mostly weeds and nasty looking. I am hoping to self treat to get it back and really hoping @centipedeCentralLawnCare posts some more videos this year to help me out.

I’ve been told that over seeding for warm weather grass does not work. The seeds need to stay moist for up to 2 weeks in order to germinate.

Thanks for the videos! Did you decide whether to use atrazine or Celsius for your first weed app this year?
@CentipedeCentralLawnCare7 ай бұрын
I did atrazine a couple weeks ago and then spot sprayed some Celsius the other day

Gonna try out your Celsius WG rec this year, last year used hose-end Atrazine. Could you consider doing an application of both? If so was considering Celsius around mid April then a couple weeks later Atrazine in early May (I’m in NC). Clemson website says Celsius WG is OK during green up for weed control but by mid April it’s mainly greened here.

I stunted my centipede using Celsius in the early stages of green up. Haven't tried it in April tho, sorry no help there.

We had a super early green up last year. I applied it last week of January and I'm in N/W Florida. I was hoping to beat it but didn't. The weather this year has been about the same and I'm in way better shape now vs this time last year. That fall and early spring pre-emergent has been a game changer

Your channel has been very informative for me, so thank you for making these videos. I found the Espoma you've talked about in the past at Ace Hardware recently. I'm in south AL near the coast. Would you recommend the Espoma or the Old Farmer's Almanac to put out in April? Is it dealer's choice or do you prefer one over the other?
@CentipedeCentralLawnCare9 ай бұрын
Those are both good choices but I lean toward the Espoma 15-0-5 because it has Iron and a microbial package in it among other goodies

I tried your method of planting winter rye and we have enjoyed a green lawn all winter here in NC which has been really nice. When should I expect that rye to die off and the centipede to take over?
@willwalk12319 ай бұрын
I think Ryegrass typically dies off in the summer when the temps increase.
@CentipedeCentralLawnCare9 ай бұрын
Probably May but hopefully you don’t have weed issues this year. In my test area where I overseeded as an experiment the weeds are pretty bad there now. Just stay on top of weeds after the burn off. But don’t over apply weed killer either.
@williamfryar28649 ай бұрын
@@CentipedeCentralLawnCare will the rye grow back in winter next year or will I need to to replant? Also I’m not sure of a weed killer that won’t kill rye and centipede but kill weeds.

What are your thoughts on Hi-Yield Iron+acidifier? My soil here on the coast of NC leans toward a higher Ph than what I read Centipede likes. What is the best way to acidify the soil a little?

Yeah wait until it’s fully green. It’s too early right now. You could wait til mid-late April. Also be careful with applying too much Milorganite on centipede. Centipede doesn’t like Phosphorus

Hello, sir. Is it normal to have some patches of dead centipede grass after the winter? I'm in South Carolina. Every year, I have a few random spots. It grows in and isn't an issue. But I was curious. My lawn care company said it's normal and will grow back in. I already see it growing back in this year.
@CentipedeCentralLawnCare8 ай бұрын
Yeah due to the sensitivity of centipede you may see some dead areas. If they are large I would be a bit concerned but centipede is sensitive to harsh cold temps. Potassium feedings in early fall may help strengthen the grass to this

How does pre emergent affect centipede? My yard is being over ran with spurge and I don’t want to hurt the centipede I seeded last fall
@CentipedeCentralLawnCare9 ай бұрын
Pre emergent (Prodiamine or Dithiopyr) is pretty harsh on centipede. I did a video called Centipede Lawn Transformation you may want to check out that talks about the dangers of using too much. You can use it sparingly but if you have areas that need to fill in I would stay away from it
