Thank you Mr Mario for the informative video! I have been following your teaching videos with my 3 year old boy since he was 1, and have been a great success. Now I am going to use the Hal Leonard book that you recommended. My boy is really excited 😊 thank you so much

@Tomahawk1505 While it helps that his dad is a professional piano teacher, I think what ultimately determines a young child's interest level or success in musical study (or any other discipline for that matter) is the parental involvement in the process. I'll be discussing this more in a future video.

@adnamadraw The purpose of this video is more to encourage parents to consider musical instruction for their children at earlier ages such as 3-4 years old rather than thinking they're not ready for lessons. It's not meant to say that it's "too late" for adults or any other ages for that matter.

My daughter started almost a year ago at age 4 and no pushing from either mom or dad. I play clarinet and would play for her frequently and let her know it was a bit difficult for her to try to play, so she picked violin from a cartoon she watched. She's halfway thru book 1 Suzuki and I bought a violin to learn along with as well so I understand her instrument of choice. She loves to play and practices on her own at least twice a day. So it's never too early/young to start.

@Ajiascha It's an arrangement of Canon in D composed by Johann Pachelbel and performed by me on the piano. You can find a free mp3 download of it on last.fm or the Podsafe Music Network if you just do a Google search for: "Mario Ajero Pachelbel Canon in D".

Mr. Mario, thank you very much for your video!. You mentioned that you use Halleonard Piano books (1-5). How long does it usually take to learn? 2 years? What book do you suggest to use next? What books do you use for older beginners?

@adnamadraw We can't make a generalization to simply say it is more challenging to learn as an adult as there are many factors involved. While young children might have less psychological inhibitions than an adult that facilitates the learning process, adults might have physical advantages in controlling their bodies in playing chords. Being able to recognize larger musical forms may also be easier for adults.

I have a 3 and 6 year old with zero piano experience. Where should I start? I want them to practice daily and I'd like to practice with them.

Hi Casey. Teach very basic tunes and patterns by rote to develop kids' listening skills and familiarity with the keyboard. We delayed the note reading more than traditional approaches until they got comfortable at the keyboard and had developed enough of an aural vocabulary of rhythm and pitch patterns so that the pre-staff notation that you saw in the above video and staff reading was much more easily understood. If you haven't seen my other video entitled "How to Start Piano Lessons with Pre-School Children", that outlines some of the concepts, music, and techniques that I used with my own children to get started playing piano. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jIXPXqRolJabaNk

Okay thank you! Were excited to start! I have a keyboard will that still be okay?

@@L.L.W.PODCAST A keyboard is sufficient in the early stages. However, you increase the likelihood of long-term musical study if you invest in a higher quality instrument with 88 keys and weighted action. This sends a message to the children that musical study (specifically piano) is important to your family in your household.

One more question. Do you usually use the Lesson book and the Theory books for your lessons or you use more then 2 books? And I saw that Halleonard now have "All -in -one" books (*1-4). Which books do you recommend - the regular one plus Theory or the "All-in-one"? Thank you very much for you attention!

+from Yuliana It depends how young the student is starting. I started both my kids when they were 3 years old. So we just used the Lesson books because they didn't really have the reading skills to make the theory or all-in-one books worth it. I eventually supplemented their music study with theory books and homework when they got older (around 6 years old). However, if your students are starting piano lessons around age 5-6 or older, I do recommend the all-in-one books.

I am 19 and I wanted to become a good musician, so I bought a 61 keys keyboard 6 months ago and I've been playing randomly by watching youtube and sadly I couldn't join the piano class as my financial condition is tight. Please tell me some other good ways to learn and play the piano in a decent and most effective way. Thanks.

Taking classes or lessons regularly with a professional teacher that can give you consistent feedback on something as complicated as playing piano will always be the most effective way to learn. If that's difficult for you, I can recommend the online lessons and resources provided by The Hoffman Academy. While the lessons are more aimed at younger children, there is plenty to learn from the free videos on their KZbin channel. Their premium subscription is also a viable lower cost alternative to traditional piano lessons. You can learn more about it on my video review from a few years back, or go to their website at: www.hoffmanacademy.com

+Tani Estrada Yes. Playing music for your daughter will help her be more musically inclined when she grows up. Letting her do some free exploration at the piano keyboard every day will help. If you have some early childhood music classes for her to enroll in, I would encourage you to let her participate in these classes if you don't have a lot of musical activity at home.

Read scientific studies that attention span of young children is related to exposure to TV & electronic devices. Many of us started with "Hot Cross Bun" & "Twinkle Little Star". And there are young people playing Beethoven & Mozart before age 10. Watched a video on the El Sistema music program in Venezuela. Many became musicians in the national Simón Bolívar youth orchestra. People in Latin America being deprived in a material sense but... without video games young they create music...
