The big difference between Saul and David was that when Saul sinned, he always justified his actions. He never accepted that he was bad. And when David sinned, he accepted that he was a sinner, a bad person, and confessed to God his bad actions, asking for forgiveness. The difference between a prideful person and a humble person. The difference between a self-righteous person and an autocritical, introspective person who knows exactly what he's and what he's not.
@brock59462 ай бұрын
Yes! I loved reading Kings
@sues32182 ай бұрын
That is the contrast being showed between the two. Unbelief vs. belief. Fake repentence vs. real repentence. Pride vs humility. Rebellion vs submission. God removed His Holy Spirit from Saul, but not from David. At the end of David's life, God says that David did everything that God asked of him, except for that one time with Uriah the Hittite (Beersheba's husband). Notice how David never repeated that sin. Instead, he grieved greatly over it and made no excuses for it, and then he turned completely away from it. When he was confronted in it by the prophet Nathan, he never made excuses for it like Saul did. He never repeated it like Saul always did with his constant disobedience. One example of this repetitive sin is that Saul constantly hunted David down for many years, even though David had committed no crime against him, but instead had been a faithful servant of King Saul. Saul was upset that God had sent a prophet to annoint David as future King of Israel, and Saul did not want to give up the kingdom for himself, though it had been taken from him by God BECAUSE of his disobedience, his unbelieving heart, and rebellion against God. (There are also other circumstances recorded in the scriptures of Saul's habitual sinning against the LORD.) The contrast is recorded for our learning, for us to examine our own hearts to see if we are in unbelief or belief AND to discern what we are truly dealing with in any situation with others. Jesus said to know them by their fruit/deeds/actions. To test the spirit to see whether or not it is from God. Does a person practice lawlessness (like King Saul), or do they practice righteousness (like David). The word "practice" in the original language implies a habit of doing. It does not imply perfection. Basically, what do you mostly do/your actions because actions speak louder than words. There is a reason scripture refers to David as "a man after God's own heart". When David was confronted in his sin with Bersheeba and Uriah, he made no excuses, confessed his sin, and did not repeat it. He even wrote a psalm saying, against You O LORD I have sinned, and he expressed how it made him feel horrible. He begged God not to take His Holy Spirit from him. David grieved that his sin had offended God. All Saul cared about was power. He had no problem repeatedly offending the LORD, even though a few times he made fake apologies to David, yet continued to hunt him down unjustly because of his lust for power. God does not look at the outward man, but at the inward heart. Saul's heart was far from God. David's heart always drew close to the LORD, even in his worst moment. Remember, it is impossible to please God without faith. Saul had none, David had it in spades. We should strive to have a heart like David, and guard our hearts from becoming like King Saul. God Bless.

Jaroslav Dušek: "Our assumptions about people and about partner, are so deep in us, that we dont even realize, they are assumptions, we think they are true. Assumptions mess up our mind. When we fall in love, our heart spontaneously opens up and the Universal love energy flows through our heart. The other partner isn´t able to create such great energy, they just started it, but the love energy is Universal. For example the greatest assumption is that after few years of relationship, the other partner stopped feeling the love and attraction, or that their attitude changed, that they stopped understanding us. But the thing is "our" heart closed up little bit, because of some stress. So the love energy couldn´t flow through our heart, but we assume that the other partner did it, that other partner stopped loving us, so we create a conflict and try to change our partner attitude, to feel the great love energy again, even though its not about them. There is enough love in the Universe for everybody, if we open our heart."

Your theory about assessing conscientiousness through a practical, visual task like setting a table and working with friends is quite interesting! Conscientiousness, which includes traits like orderliness, diligence, and reliability, can indeed be observed through behavior in structured tasks. By informing participants that they are being evaluated, you might see how they handle pressure and their attention to detail. Observing them in a group setting can also reveal their teamwork and organizational skills. This allows you to see conscientiousness when just like IQ tests you know prior to the test that you have to concentrate

How can you make an argument against slavery without walking down the religious road? Everyone is born with a unique set of gifts and skills, and that gives them the potential to achieve excellence and the desire to unleash that potential. That is the sense in which “all men are created equal.” Anyone who does not make the effort to embody their most courageous, authentic, excellent self is doomed to a life of regret and despair because the saddest thing in life is wasted talent. If you enslave people, and deny their ability to practice courage and authenticity in pursuit of excellence, you are actively making the world a lesser place, and we will not stand for that. The quest for excellence is our highest cultural value because it promotes human thriving. That’s how.

You smuggled some assumptions there buddy. There are also some inconsistencies in your flow of logic. Let's suppose someone has a great talent for making shoes, but he doesn't really want to do it and prefers to drink beer in a tawern. Thus he squanders his talent. Let's suppose my gift is in enslaving people and creating an environment by force mandating them to pursue their talents. In logical conclusions of your worldview not only could I enslave that person, but leaving him free to drink beer will squander my talent and 'leave the world a lesser place'. Humanist ethics can only bring you to utilitarianism, so 'Thanos was right'...😉
@lubpost40142 ай бұрын
@@wikingagresor you went soft on this guy. He indeed makes a large amount of assumption and i might want to ask him when the world is a better or lesser place because if you dont go down the religous road that is just subjective and so it would just be his opinion that the world is a lesser place and i could just argue that it would be better place and then he doesnt have anything to appeal to to make his point except his own preferences. You can even argue that he is using a religous framework because he says that excellence is the highest cultural value so practically seen that is a God. All this is just his opinion, any other opinion is as valid as his.

4:47 Saul tried to murder David several times including the same scheme where David had Uriah murdered, Saul consulted a necromancer despite the command to put them to death, and Saul refused to kill the king of a morally depraved society. It'd be like not killing Hitler. Saul is nowhere close to "a pretty good guy." The juxtaposition of Saul and David shows that God takes Saul's kingship but doesn't take David's because God loves David and has mercy on David not because David is penitent. In Psalm 51, David asks the Lord for mercy for a sin against a law that requires death and there is no animal sacrifice provided or sufficient to atone for the 6th commandment/murdering Uriah. He literally cannot atone that is why he begs for mercy in Psalm 51.

I, for one (even as an agnostic rather than an atheistic), don't believe that you have to believe in God to have a moral yardstick of things such as slavery as well as other matters which are less extreme. I might've understood you wrong; if so, I'd appreciate it if anyone (I know the chances of JBP reading this are slim) corrected me. Oren
