"Sometimes I feel very sad" is the first and upfront lyric in the pre-chorus. But-just like with people-if you listen carefully and tune into a different language you can hear the real inner-conflict behind that sadness-"When will I be? Someday I will be." This is not just a song, this is a sonic representation of complex human feelings.

I will never forget hearing this song for the first time when I was 17. I was reading about prog rock on wikipedia and read that some album called "Pet Sounds" by The Beach Boys was a massive influence to prog rock, music in general etc etc. I kind of scoffed because I only knew the Beach Boys for the same poppy stuff most people know them for. I flipped through the track list and a song called "I Just Wasn't Made for These Times" caught my attention, the title reflecting something I had and still feel to this day. Well listening to that song instantly changed my life. I had to learn everything I could about this Brian Wilson guy who word for word seemingly wrote a psychic diary of my life in one song. Anyway, I digress, cool clip and thanks for sharing :)

I swear Paul Dano was a perfect match
@twoblacklabs9048 ай бұрын
… and should’ve played YOUNG and OLDER Brian! I still don’t fully understand why the producers and director intentionally used John Cusack to play older Brian, unless it was to remind the audience of how different Brian’s personality was, after his breakdown and during his Landy days… But that concept fell flat to me. Paul Dano was perfect as young Brian, and (with the use of some great prosthetics and makeup), would’ve played an even better psychologically/psychiatrically damaged older Brian during “treatment” and his blossoming relationship with Melinda Ledbetter in the second 1/2 of the film. I’d love to ask that question of Paul Dano one day, and see his reaction. The movie was fine, but I still think it could’ve been so much better without the distraction of 2 different actors playing the same lead character…
@isntitrich0008 ай бұрын
@@twoblacklabs904 Honestly yes! My mind couldn’t help but see Paul also do good with older Brian. I wasn’t too bothered with John’s performance, but I do agree that it was a bit of a distraction. There could have been more impact if it was just Paul.
@normaaureliamalaveraraujo77676 ай бұрын

this is a short video to drum up hype for an upcoming mix of the Beach Boy's unfinished album, SMiLE. It was going to be the big and dramatic follow up to the Pet Sounds album, a real magnum opus for Brian Wilson, the main creative from the band. However, due to his mental issues, the rest of the band, and the label, it never got finished. Part of why is because Brian had no real scope for the project. He tried to make it "modular", like loads of little bits, that would slowly come together and make an album or a song. Good Vibrations is one example, but the best example of the modular recording, that was actually released, was the second single called Heroes and Villains. because it was modular he more or less kept on making little modules, and polishing it, and never could figure out how to put it together. one of the sections in the album was going to be songs for the elements. During the recording of fire, a building across the street caught fire, and due to Brian's schizophrenia, he believed he had caused it with the album and he cancelled the whole thing. he left an enormous amount of unfinished material behind, which can be genius and can also be very odd, and for years fans tried to reassemble the album in bootlegs. This is a teaser, a trailer for one of these bootlegs, using part of the song "I Just Wasn't Made For These Times", from Pet Sounds. It's one of the definitive, dramatic and tragic stories of the music industry in the 60s. Brian would live a tortured life for decades, haunted by the album as the moment that it all went wrong, and was put under the care of psychiatrists who often were abusive. eventually, in 2004, a well adjusted and happy brian finishes the album, called Brian Wilson Presents Smile, and it's a heartwarming moment for all, happy ending. It's not what SMiLE would've been, had it released in 1967, Brian says, because Brian in 2004 was very different than mentally ill brian in 1967. As well, people love the old, 60s beach boys, and some of the members died in the 90s, so they don't appear on the 2004 finished version, so some fans still make bootlegs. This channel is one of the most anticipated bootleg makers.
