I don’t have an adrenal issue, took dexamethasone for a week for oral surgery…I stopped it 3 days ago and I’ve got severe brain fog and fatigue. I am praying this lifts soon because I feel terrible.

This sounds like a very interesting topic.. love your channel. I’ve been on prednisolone for just over three years. Long story short I’m at the stage whereby I feel this drug is damaging my eyes. Just recently I’ve had a large onset of eye floaters, as well as blurred vision (optician says eye are ok).. I realise the drug is doing good by reducing inflammation in my spinal cord, but no longer can I cope with the visual side effects which, I know it’s renowned for. Slowly, and against my consultants advice, I’m weening myself off the drug. Unfortunately, my mobility and pain are worsening as a result .. but I feel I have to choose, mobility/pain or eye sight. I’m looking forward to watching your video. Always a 👍from me to help your channel. All the best - Neil (uk).

Male who was at 61 diagnosed with RA. For last 3 years. daily doses of 5 to 7.5mg, with as much as 20 mg on flare ups, no side effects I'm aware of. So, Pred allows me to live an almost normal athletic active life. Haven't found anything else that works. Though I'm sure I have an elevated risk for the listed long term side effects related to heart, bone, and eyes.

And yet many doctors seem to prescribe steroids without any understanding of, or regard for, the risks to the patient for developing adrenal insufficiency - and not everybody can recover to a state of normal functioning of their HPA axis and adrenal gland once they stop taking steroids, a significant number of people end up needing to take steroids every day for the rest of their lives - and believe me, adrenal insufficiency is an absolutely horrible medical condition to have to live with and most people find it has a significant negative impact on their quality of life, and it is very challenging to manage on a day to day basis or to find doctors who understand it and how to treat it.

So my journey started 17 yrs ago with a foot surgery that resulted in needing a shot in my foot and a week of steroids. Later that year I ended up needing neck surgery and fusion. 2 yrs later after getting so fatigued I couldn't function I was DXd w adrenal fatigue and put on hydrocortisone...I've been on it for all these years and have tried several times to wean off. I have not been successful. I also cannot regulate my electrolytes and fear I have full blown Addison's now. Has anyone ever gotten off steroids after being on them this long? I wish I could go off just don't know if it's wise. I have a had several crisis. Terrifying.

So how does adrenal insufficiency occur? Is it just from medication? Or are there other factors that effect people’s response?

I found your channel recently, Dr. Megan. Brilliant videos, congrats. I don't know if I can post my questions here (if there's another channel for questions, please lmk). I experience a lot of daytime sleepiness and my morning cortisol ranges from 8 ug/dl to 12 ug/dl, which are values that are still considered normal, although they are close to the lower limit. I wonder if there is any level of morning cortisol that is considered ideal.

I forgot to mention. The reason for this question is because I read that Prednisone is used to treat Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

Hey Doc - I’ve been on it for a little over 3 years. I recently tapered too fast, from 10mg to 5mg, and after about 2 weeks I have had a low-grade fever for 3 days straight with swollen lymph nodes on day 3. Are these symptoms normal with prednisone withdrawal? I’m going to hop back on to 10mg and work with my doctor to help me taper off properly. This shit is no fun

I am going through the high fever right now. I was wondering if it was due to Prednisone withdrawal? I never had that symptom before. Of course when I go to the hospital today. They will say it has nothing to do with Prednisone. Maybe doctors should start listening to their patients? 😢

Thoughts on oral Budesonide? I was told by an Endocrinologist that I couldn’t have AI because Budesonide is not absorbed systematically. I had inadvertently stopped Budesonide during a severe illness and then developed all the symptoms of AI after I recovered from strep throat. Months later, after feeling better, my ACTH stim test showed a result of 18.8 at 60 minutes. Any thoughts?

Do a cortisol test, people. Don't keep guessing. Get your blood test done for cortisol levels. Visit an endocrinologist if needed.

Is the danger less if I was in only 5 mg for many years?
@PrednisonePharmacist
@PrednisonePharmacist Жыл бұрын
The sheer number of milligrams you are exposed to does make a difference in recovery, but it’s not an exact link. Several side effects are lessened based on the dose you take, like heart disease. So that’s in your favor.

@@PrednisonePharmacist thank you so much for responding. I'm finally tapering off and going half mg every few weeks. My concern is adrenal issues. I'm hoping since it's a low dose, I won't have to worry about that but just in case, I'm taking it very slow. I know I will have to take it again but I want to be a quick taper than a lifelong servant to it.

@@Brooklynlife1000 5mg a day, for 8 years, 3.5 years was the longest time someone has been on then tempered off prednisone. I had a real asshole for a doctor that prevented me from gettign offf prednisone before this period expired. A lot of doctors realy havne't a clue what they are talking about.

@@richardsackler7627 very true in that one. My drs in the past twenty years have been toxic precribers and didn't care about the long term possible issues. Though we are responsible to learn ourselves but it's overwhelming to read it all and when desperate, we just fall into the medicine regimen. It's great for a short term taper but ongoing is often dangerous. I hope you are doing well and was able to avoid the horrid things this medical can do to us.
