Congratulations: you just gave birth to your baby! But let’s face it: your belly still looks like you are 6 months pregnant… So, when will it go away?
In this video, Nathalie Kaufmann, Pregnancy and Birth Consultant and TCM Therapist, and Mathias Ritter, Researcher and Science Geek, discuss when exactly a postpartum belly will go away.
First, they share with you exactly how much weight you lost during your delivery. And they also explain why your “pregnancy belly” still exists after you gave birth to your baby.
Next, they explain the factors that determine how long it is going to take to lose your postpartum belly. Moreover, they share with you several things that you can do to get rid of your postpartum belly.
Finally, they also tell you why some women face the problem that their postpartum belly gets bigger, rather than smaller, when they breastfeed their baby and what you have to do to avoid it.

Gonna have my daughter in a few weeks. So this is incredibly helpful. I packed on an extra 35 pounds- with this pregnancy on top of the normal 20 pounds. Activity was great, the cravings & caving was not. The kitchen really is where progress starts. I was extremely athletic before pregnancy, it will be a journey to go back to that- so I thank you guys!

Hi there 😊, thanks so much for sharing this with us and also for your feedback! 😊 We are very happy to hear that you found our video helpful! 😘 Please don't worry! We have met many women who were quite athletic before pregnancy and who gained quite some weight. However, in all except from 2 cases, those women went back to their pre-pregnancy weight eventually (by the way, there were good reasons why the 2 women did not go back to their pre-pregnancy weight - but those reasons are exceptions really)... Anyways: what we are trying to say is: You can do it too!! 😊 We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby!! ❤️

Hi there 😘, yes, unfortunately, not every woman is able to breastfeed. Please don't be disappointed. It can happen.... We totally understand that this is depressing!! So, in cases like yours, the problem is most likely related to hormones.... Therefore, we would see a doctor or health practitioner that specializes in hormone-related issues. I know someone on Facebook who went on diet and exercise with herbal nutritional. She was post partum for one year with big belly after pregnancy. She's an inspiration. My tummy is still big after 6 months ago of delivering through cs and I had of fibroids that was removed. I have stress and all that and I eat too much cuz I'm nursing my baby who is 6 months and active. I'm taking my time from healing through my cs. Little little I'm takin it easy. I drink warm water in morning and night.. til after 1 year I'll go on diet and exercise. But I'll still have to see my doctor as I'm being asked to come back to check my tummy and know whether I can go on diet and exercise.
@CareAboutLittleOnes
@CareAboutLittleOnes Жыл бұрын
Hi there 😊, thanks a lot for sharing this with us! 😊 When you go through a C-section and a removal of fibroids, things are bit different compared to when you recover from a normal delivery. As your doctor already said, it is important to have regular checks. And it is not uncommon for the belly to look bigger for a longer period of time. However, even in that case, your belly will normally go back after some time. It just takes longer.... Exercising and a healthy diet can definitely help here - as soon as you are allowed to exercise... We wish you ALL THE BEST for your recovery and for your baby!! ❤️

Am sorry for asking a question that is not matching with the video, am 29 weeks now my baby is breech on my right hand facing the left. Which side can I sleep and do I have chances of my baby turning?
@SnazzyArcade
@SnazzyArcade Жыл бұрын
Hey, my baby was breech at 28 weeks, at 36 weeks she was in the right position. You don't have to do that much because the baby still has a lot of room to flip around! 25% of babies are breech at 28 weeks but only 3-4% are breech at 40 weeks. It's generally recommended to sleep on your left side so your baby has maximum blood flow to the placenta but if you end up falling asleep on your back your body has safety mechanisms to get you to turn on your side, so don't worry too much about it...and if your baby is still breech when you're at term the doctors usually can usually push him/her into the right position, so don't panic and think you're going to have to get a C-section. Congratulations!
@CareAboutLittleOnes
@CareAboutLittleOnes Жыл бұрын
Hi there 😊, no need to be sorry at all! We are very happy to help (if we can), no matter where you post your question! The answer to your question is: it does not matter which side you sleep on in order to help the baby turn. The idea of this sleeping position is to provide the baby with more room to turn. In so far, the exact position of baby does not matter. It can work for transverse breech positions, oblique, frank and other forms. That said, there are also more "active ways" to support a baby: As long as a woman is less than 34 weeks pregnant, we have found that an exercise called "pelvic rocking" on a birthing ball is the most effective tool to turn a breech baby. We explain how it works in this video (actually, everything that we explain in this video could help): kzbin.info/www/bejne/jmTWgIKYpr97qLs And then once a woman is 34+ weeks pregnant, we have found that "moxibustion" in combination with breech baby turning exercises is more effective to turn a baby. We explain how this approach works in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m17OmWmkrayeec0 Finally, please note that so far, you are only 29 weeks pregnant. There is PLENTY of time for your baby to turn. So, please do not worry about that at all at this point of your pregnancy... We hope this helps! 😊 All the best for you and your baby!! ❤️

Hi there 😊, first of all: CONGRATULATIONS on your newborn from the 2 of us!!! 🥳🥳🥳 We hope both, you and your baby are doing well! Regarding your question: diastasis recti is very common after a pregnancy, no matter if you are obese or not. In normal cases, the body is supposed to deal with it by itself over the course of some weeks after the pregnancy. However, in more severe cases, it may require exercises. Therefore, we recommend that you talk with your doctor about your case! If they palpate your belly, they can tell you if you need to do exercises or not. If you do, then your doctor will show you which ones. Alternatively, you can also ask a personal trainer who specializes in these things.... Hi there 😊, yes, this has often to do with hormones! We mostly observe this after hysterectomies, but also after C-sections... The only thing she can do is go to a specialist who checks her hormones. And then based on that, that specialist has to develop a plan for her on how to help her get rid of the belly, based on hormones/diet/exercises - it depends on the case. But basically, that's really the only thing that we can see seems to help... We hope this helps! 😊

@CareAboutLittleOnes Жыл бұрын
Hi there 😊, to be honest with you, we are not very familiar with those belly bands! We only know a handful of women who tried it. But except from one woman, none of them had anything positive to say about it. Personally, we don't believe in such products because after all, how long it is going to take to lose your postpartum belly is just a matter of mathematics: If you burn more calories than you consume, then you are going to lose weight. And if you do some exercises to tone your belly, then you also get a tighter tummy. Therefore, personally, we would rather focus on caloric intake and exercises instead of belly bands. But again, we are no experts when it comes to belly bands.... It's probably better to ask someone else.... 😊 Sorry that we cannot be a better help here... We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby!! ❤️

Hi there 😊, we are not gonna lie to you: if you want to tackle the skin on your belly, then you will have to focus on your abdominal muscles! In other words, you will have to do crunches and the likes. HOWEVER: we strongly recommend talking with a physician before you do that, since you had a C-section. It's important that your physician gives you their approval before you start. It would also be great to have them confirm that there is no longer a gap between your abdominal muscles (i.e. diastasis recti) before you start with these exercises. If there is, ask your provider which exercises will help reduce the gap. Once there is no longer a gap, you basically just look for exercises for your abs and your core. Even better: ask your provider if they recommend certain exercises for your particular case! We hope this helps! 😊 We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby!! ❤️

Hi there 😊, in terms of the milk flow, it is better to directly feed your baby. That's because when your baby is close, your body will produce oxytocin. This will make your milk flow more easily compared to a breast pump. But in terms of the loss of the calories, it has the same effect. 😊

During the first 8 weeks with the help of the mid wife I could do some exercise which helped my Uterus to go back to normal size and my postpartum weight was also coming back to my pre pregnancy weight but the problem is after 6 weeks of postpartum I have heavy sugar cravings and I exclusively breastfeed my baby. I can't Control it and I think I exceed :( those 500 calories which I need to Produce milk. And now I feel putting up more weight again. I badöy want to reduce my weight as my pre pre pregnancy weight was also overweight. When is the best time that I really can start with weight loss dies and exercises? PS: I am planning to exclusively breastfeed my baby till 6 months. Thanks in advance.

Hi there Archana 😊, first of all: CONGRATULATIONS on your baby from the 2 of us!!! 🥳🥳🥳 We hope all went well and that you both are doing well!! Regarding your question: First of all, please note that it is absolutely normal to have these cravings when you breastfeed your baby. However, the good news is that NORMALLY these cravings are worst during the first 6-12 weeks after your delivery. Afterwards, they often get better. That said, personally, we would stay away from those extreme diets (such as low-carb etc.). They do more harm than good at this point because your body needs those nutrients. However, we are not gonna lie to you: you will have to stop eating sugary things if you want to keep your weight in check. So, one thing that has worked for many women we know, is replace those sugary snacks with something else: nuts or fruits or vegetables. It can also help to eat smaller portions, but then several times per day (i.e. instead of 3 meals, you would have 5 smaller meals). In general, it would be great to stay away from fried and processed food! Freshly prepared food, including vegetables and fruits would be great. Of course, you can also include meat and/or cheese, because it contains protein. And you can also eat foods which include fat, as long as it is healthy fat (like in avocados or nuts or certain kinds of fish). Keep in mind: sugar is addictive. So that means, it will be very hard NOT to eat any sugary things initially. However, it will get better, the less sugar you eat... Try it! 😊 We really hope this helps! 😊 We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby!! ❤️

Hi there 😘, don't worry! We see cases like yours all the time! However, it is difficult for us to help you in an online setting because there can be many reasons why you experience what you experience. It could be a matter of caloric intake. But it could also be a matter of hormones, for instance, particularly, as long as you breastfeed your baby. 🤯🤯🤯 In any case, we wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your little ones!! ❤️

Hi there 😘, unfortunately, we have come across such cases several times. Sometimes, your hormones or genes (or both) just make it very difficult (if not impossible) to lose weight fast... @@CareAboutLittleOnes I don’t know the details of my sister’s daily eating habits besides the fact that she is a heath conscious person who works out daily. But as for me, I don’t snack and I eat until I am satisfied 3x a day. All meals are made from scratch and most meat and vegetables are from local farmers. I have tried calorie restriction and it always leaves me starving and negatively impacts my supply. I like how this video addresses the issue that nursing mothers shouldn’t be trying to lose weight. It seems as though some nursing mothers will not lose weight until they stop nursing. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hqGUeqaOq9apeZYsi=rRuc2iDFvy3idnpl If you disagree I would love to hear your thoughts.

@@graceelizabeth8788 We just saw that you replied to our answer. But your answer was blocked because it contains a link. However, we read your answer and we can only tell you this: we have seen both. Most of the times, women who breastfeed quickly lose weight because it requires so much energy from the body. However, we have also had cases when women were not able to lose weight before they stopped breastfeeding. MANY of them gave in cravings, as we said earlier. So their caloric input was much higher than their output which explains why they could not lose weight. However, we have also seen cases when that was not the case - and yet they did not lose any weight. This is then mostly either because of hormones or because of genetics. It is difficult to identify the correct cause.... And in those cases - we are not gonna lie to you - it is very difficult, if not impossible to lose weight while you breastfeed.... 😬

@@lemonadesoutoflemons Okay, thanks a lot for letting us know! In that case, it is most probably related to your hormones or genetics. But if you had a normal BMI before your delivery, then it is almost certainly related to your hormones. What we do observe is that sometimes, in cases like yours, the problem gets better once you stop breastfeeding. Because then, your hormones change again. We are not encouraging you to stop breastfeeding though! It is the best you can do for your baby. We just tell you this to raise your hopes, that the problem WILL get better eventually. That said: please keep in mind that - in rare cases - there could also be medical problems. For example: uterine fibroids. Again, those are rare. But they ARE an option....

😅 Poor you! Clearly, you are very frustrated! Look, normally, it is simple mathematics. If your caloric intake is less than what you burn, you ARE going to lose weight. And since breastfeeding requires LOTS of energy, you are even more likely to burn calories. Nevertheless, there ARE women who don't lose any weight, particularly during the first 6 months after their pregnancy, even though they breastfeed. We are not gonna lie to you: in most of those cases that we treated, it was because the women gave in to cravings. The problem is that breastfeeding requires so much energy, that it is very common for women to experience cravings. As a result, breastfeeding women often eat lots of snacks in between, without even being aware of it (we don't blame them). However, we also treated women who had no problem with cravings. And in those cases, it either has to do with genes or hormones or both. In those cases, women normally lose weight only AFTER those initial 6 months. At least based on our experience. So, don't be frustrated! If it's true what you say that your daily meals are really restricted to two meals only and if those meals are healthy (i.e. they are not high-caloric, like burgers and fries) with no unhealthy snacks in between, then you can normally expect to lose weight after those 6 months if you keep breastfeeding. As for your milk supply, there ARE way to increase it (see here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYWxoYhulrOpjpo). Because normally, the more demand, the more the body produces. We hope this helps! 😊 We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby!! And a nice g day to you too! 👍

@@pikabamboo4175 Hi there! 😊 We completely understand your situation! We deal with cases like yours all the time! Not sure if this is an option where you are based, however, maybe, you can see a breastfeeding consultant? They would be able to observe one of your feeds, and then they could give you feedback. The reason we say that is because sometimes, the latch is not optimal. Therefore, the baby cannot remove the amount of milk baby would normally do. When this happens, your body believes that the demand is just not there and will stop producing milk. In such cases, it is very difficult to make this work with a breastpump. Most women would just sit there and pump milk for hours with little success. What COULD help is if you let your baby suckle a bit before you use the breastpump. This will increase your oxytocin levels which makes the milk flow more easily. But again, the best thing would be if you could see a breastfeeding consultant (or a midwife). That said, we do have cases every now and then, when a woman just does not produce enough milk. And there can be many reasons for that. However, the exact reason is something that only a doctor can determine... We hope this helps you a bit!! Don't give you! You are not a bad mother just because you are not able to breastfeed your baby! 😊❤

@@deepika9489 Okay, got you! So, when you look at your caloric intake vs what a woman normally burns at that stage, is it a positive or negative outcome? In other words: does your caloric intake exceed what you need each day? If not, then it is often a hormonal "problem". But that is not necessarily a reason to worry at 6 months postpartum because it may still be "too close" to your delivery. We often observe that it takes up to one year for that belly to disappear. However, it does help when you do some sort of physical activity. If you do that already, and if your caloric intake does not exceed what you burn, then we recommend talking with your doctor about it (again, because then it is most likely a hormonal thing)... And in such cases, it is best to take action based on your individual hormone-related case, as there is no "one-fits-all" solution in such cases... We hope this helps! 😊

Hi there 😘, are you still in pain?? In that case, the first thing to do really is to talk with your doctor about it! Maybe, there is some swelling or infection? So please do this first! You need clarity about where the pain is coming from. It could also be the reason for the size of your belly, although at 4 months postpartum, it is still "quite normal" for some women to have a "big" belly (depending on the actual size of course)....
