What you said about making a promise that divorce is out of the question, is the ONLY way to be married. I did it twice. Both husbands died but our marriages were good and I have 2 grown children and 2 grandchildren now. But the one thing that I felt was important was that we committed to no divorce, and it was tough sometimes, but you stick it out and realize something my mom always told me: when you divorce, you'll eventually remarry and every marriage has problems. So you end up just swapping out one problem for another. Its so much better to simply work out the problems. And remember that keeping God in your marriage is the surest way to have a successful marriage.

Congratulations on the big 50, and may you have many more. My wife and I heading toward our 56th in Nov., and as you say it aint all been easy. After having a beautiful daughter we had the unhappy luck of two babies with server spinal birth defects, they did not survive. We did however adopt our son a year after I retired from the Air Force, he graduated from Oregon State University with two degrees. Yes we have had some bad times but through it all we have each other and two wonderful children, God has truly smiled upon us.
