This was at a time when the 80s animators were really at the top of their game! What's even funnier, is a lot of these animators would be hired to do TV series for the 90s! That's why I never understood why younger anime fans have a certain disdain for 90s anime when we have fantastic animators like this working on them!

not really a fair comparison though. This wasn't a TV series, but rather a theatrical compilation piece much like Disney's Fantasia or The Animatrix many years later. Basically a showcase of different renowned animation directors and teams all based on a common theme. In this case, robots. Hence the name Robot Carnival.

Starlight Angel is my favorite short in Robot Carnival, directed by Hiroyuki Kitazume from Gundam ZZ and CCA (no wonder the 2 guys remind me of Char and Amuro lol). Cameo appearances by Roux Louka (Gundam ZZ), Tetsuo and Akira and The Colonel.

Let me guess: The big robot represents her sadness and grief. And our prince charming here were shown as a robot because he showed no concern of her feelings in the beginning. And he get more and more human the more he understood her feelings until he were able to apologize and free her from her inner demons.

Actually he's just an employee that got caught up in her emotions. However when her "anger bot' we'll call it, feels the same emotion she does, he's also affected. The 'Chivalrous Knight' employee just wants to make sure she's okay but after defeating her anger, she begins to think that maybe the locket can mean something better with the right person instead of it bringing her sorrow.

No, the employee was always human in a custome. But yes, the big robot spawns and reacts based on her emotions. She's mad and the robot spawns, she hits the guy and the robot attacks the guy, and when she cries because the robot is attacking the guy, the robot let's her go.

He's literally just a robot. But he followed her into the ride, which apparently can manifest your innermost feelings. The fact that he so easily put his head back on is meant to allow you to think he was just staff in a suit, but his outfit is complex enough that maybe he was always a robot to begin with. When the ride goes wrong, he saves her. It's a very classic knight saves damsel story. The original boyfriend ends up being a cheater who was with her best friend with out either of them knowing. When found out, they both dump him. He never redeems himself. No one ever apologizes to her, but she does now have a new love interest. One who possibly transformed himself into becoming human solely out of his desire to help her. So, regardless of which origin story you pick, it's still a sweet story.

The big robot represents her experience with other men. This is a life long journey in this short 8 mins or so. She got burned by her price (as most young girls do) and after that she found that every guy is just a mean robot. Only care about themselves…(at least the ones SHE likes 🙄women☕️). So she was having trust issues with men. That’s why she ran away from the one she thought was amazing, but actually he had a fake face…it changed…so she was scared again that he will be just like her ex. Ran away.Then….ran into the arms of a SUPER bad guy….and what she REALLY wanted was someone to fight for her so she knows she is really loved and it’s not fake. And even she pushed him away, he was fighting for her….(this will increase survival of her offspring) And then he proved himself (simped) and she accepted him. The stage is now set for making babies with her knowing she always has his protection and superior skimping ability. Women don’t love men…then love what men can do for them.

@@Starshadow-dm8ds Ok, so the giant robot was her pent up frustration and anger. Earlier, she was seen to be able to create robots in her fantasy dreamlike state. So it stands to reason this giant robot was created when she got angry seeing the pendant. The ' chivalrous knight's bot was an employee who feel in love with her but was worried about her. When the girl saw the ' knight' get hurt by her pent up 'anger bot', she cried, and so did the 'anger bot'. Luckily it was the opening the 'knight' needed as he was able to use the locket to defeat him. After her 'anger bot' dissolved away, it was clear that maybe...theres something to this locket with the right 👦 guy. Sorry if that was lengthy! Hope it helps!
