He was the fastest this season so I personally think he would’ve won, but we’ll never know. I feel very bad for Devon because he just has a REALLY fast start

I think the best course of action would be to keep the same false start system, but simply lower the cutoff to .08 secs. This is so unbelievably simple to enforce/change, it's mind-boggling why the IAAF hasn't even considered it since literally 2010.

100ms seems like ab arbitrary number that is definitely not exact. Disqualifying somebody for reacting in 99ms is completely absurd.

My friends were on that start team and one was the team lead. There were two pieces of the system ( wave form and reaction time) as evidence that did not agree in the recall system. The athlete asked to run under protest and let the decision go to the jury of appeals. The start referee overruled it. As a starter of over 30 years I feel he got screwed.

The rule is BS. Someone pointed out on Twitter that the sensor in his lane was responsible for a few DQs. It could be faulty. Anyways, after the gun is after the gun. You shouldn’t be penalized for it.

They should have to run diagnostics for sure, and maybe something as low as 1 ms let the race run but flag it for review. I'd imagine 1 ms could be within a bad calibration.

Even if he did not 'appear' to move, the blocks are so sensitive that they measure the slightest twitch of the foot. You are not supposed to move after the set position. Some athletes coming up through the HS + Collegiate system using blocks w/o sensors ( and starters that have not been calling false starts or have a predictable time in between 'set' and the gun ) have been anticipating the gun and getting away with jumping the gun. They get complacent until they have to use pro blocks and reality hits them.

It makes me wonder why didn’t the WA lower the ruling, like they did a study back in 2009, 13 years ago!!!! And yet they still didn’t change the ruling to 0.080s or 0.085s

Further research should be made and rules must be updated as times change. Being stubborn on old rules will kill this sport, no wonder most people chose to play American football, soccer or other more paying jobs

From Eugene, this HURRTS even a year later. Statistically, it is probably that a world class sprinter has a reaction at the front end of the bell curve. This isn't proof of false start.

drag racing has similar rule, if your car moves within .5 seconds of light changing from yellow to green, it's a foul. I had a .499 reaction one time. I didn't bitch, we all had the same rules to follow.

It's such a genuinely awful rule that taints the sport. If even people who don't follow track see it and know it's idiotic, then it shouldn't be a rule, period.

In Sports you are supposed to have have a quick reaction time . It would be incentivised. Sprinting is another form of response to effort the quickly you can fire nerve impulses and have conditioned your body for the same the better

what's wrong with democracy. if it looks legal at the start and it looks like- say, a draw at the finish- then it's a draw( an example) and using technology has gone way to far now. what happened to honour. No, we bow to technology.

the eye is not sensitive to see the foot push against the block, that is why they have sensors, but this model of blocks appears to be overly sensitive.

I sympathize with Allen. After all the hard training and sacrifice he had to endure. But you have to remember that the other competitors also endured hard training and sacrifices and they have the right to compete fairly with the same rules applying equally to every competitor. The rules protect all the competitors against someone who, intentionnally or not, would get an unfair jump on them. I compete myself in Masters athletics. When I register for an event, I accept the rules. I have never questionned the goodwill of the officials or made a scene.

No there have been studies that say it's possible. Plus you can't put a lower limit on what's possible. A 4 minute miles used to be impossible too, until someone did it. Anything after the gun should be fair game. If they try to guess the gun they risk getting disqualified
