I would like to offer my humble advice as a returning resident. I have lived and worked in the U.S. for over 40 years. If you plan to return here in Jamaica, be very careful about that. Unless you absolutely have to, do not return to the place you came from. Like you said you will have changed and people here are going to change towards you. Some will be jealous, others including close friends and relatives will see you only as an opportunity to get things for themselves. Relationships evolve and in life we may have to leave certain people behind even if you knew them all your life. I wish you eternal prosperity and blessings in your new country.

💯speaking facts! Someone related to me in Canada 🇨🇦 for more than 50 years and accomplished little. She had a very weak worth ethic. All she did was sit and chat on the phone. She got left behind. I lived in the UK from 1968.Came with sisters age 10. Some of my relatives are still doing small farming as a living from before then. The clock hasn't gone forward as far as their concerned. Some decided to massively populate their family as if contraceptives were the worse thing they ever heard of. But everyone does what they think, in which case they shouldn't begrudge me if my choices turn out better. Family or not, I am not in Jam their as their personal bank.😊

I'm so glad that Jamaican people are reporting this to the people who never left Jamaica. When you get to the US life not easy here either but people in Jamaica think you're rich when you come from farrin and want to ask you for money, or buy expensive clothes for them. Unless you are truly rich the average person is not rich. Now when Jamaican people come to the US and live they start to ignore the phone calls or change their number so the people in Jamaica don't beg for nothing i didn't understand it but now i do. It's not easy here. And ive lived in Jamaica also.

Thank you for sharing this post. This subject needs to be addressed in our community; in Jamaica and abroad. I find it hard to understand how we could have some of the most forward thinking people along side some of the most backward thinking people. I have not gone home for a while now because I can’t pretended to be interested in the things I used do as a child. And it hurts me to see the young men them that I grew up with living the same way we did when we were kids. I feel insulted when they let me know they are expecting the same thing from me after 30 something years living abroad. I recently moved to a new city with a sizable Jamaican population and I am finding it hard to make friends with the ones I have met so far. It seems like if you are not interested in talking sex, money and god there is no way to make a connection.

Preach! Of course you change to adapt to a new environment. People are under the assumption that foreign is easy. Whether you migrate to US, UK, Canada etc YOU HAVE TO CHANGE, as you have so much other things you have to navigate through and also keep on top off. Jamaica is more relaxed. My husband has been in UK 24 years, and he has adapted to well. As soon as he goes to Jamaica, it's as if he shakes of the UK and relaxes more and blends in. Back on that plane, he is back in UK mode. A so it go. More Jamaicans in the diaspora need to explain more of how challenging foreign can be, it's not paved in gold or a bed of roses. As Jamaicans (immigrant) you have to work twice as hard. So when your family and friends return back to Jamaica, do not be jealous of them and do not keep going on that they have changed, they know this already.
