Did you know that the species of bear called the black bear can also have brown fur? The same can be said about brown bears (grizzlies) having black fur. The easiest way to differentiate them at a distance is actually whether or not they have a hump on their back. If they do, you are dead, cause that's a grizzly. If they don't, group together and move towards it while making loud noises. Then you might survive, cause that's a "black bear" (even if the fur is golden brown).

For anyone wondering porridge is basically just like oatmeal but made with other grains like wheat (cream of wheat) corn (grits), or buckwheat (kasha). It's made basically just like rice with one part grain and two parts water, and can be sweet or savory depending on what you have available or are in the mood for. It's actually a very quick, easy, and economical meal if you're stuck in nature, poor, or living through the apocalypse.

Holy shit this video is pretty relatable. I hiked the Swiftcurrent mountain trail in glacier national park last summer with my girlfriend, and on the way down in the forest, we saw a bear. Im pretty experienced with what to do in bear encounters, but because of the lighting, there was no way to tell if it was a black or a grizzly bear. Usually you identify them by the hump on where their neck and back meetup, a grizzly has a large hump, a black doesnt, but because we were standing in sunlight and it was in shade in front of a dark bush, we couldnt really see the detail of its outline so we didnt know. We waited out the situation, and eventually made it through when it left. Based on its footprint we looked at, we determined it was a black bear. It was a pretty rare black bear though, because it was brown, and much larger than average. About 10% of black bears are brown so its not good to judge based on color. Its pretty important to know if its a black or a grizzly, to determine how to react, but we just had no way to tell Also a heads up for people who arent experienced with bear encounters. Never make eye contact in ANY CASE. if its a black, try to make yourself look big, and just back up a bit and wait it out, dont be aggressive unless it starts approaching you or getting curious, if it does approach, get very loud aggressive, but remember to not make eye contact. With a grizzly, no need to make yourself look big, just keep sidestepping away from it so you can still see it, but can also see where youre walking so you dont trip. Calmly say something like "hey bear" (it doesnt really matter what you say, it doesnt understand our language), only if it starts charging, then you should lay down on your belly, and cover your neck. Only fight back against a black bear if it is attacking you, in that case, grab a rock, and bash that suckers head in. If you have bear spray, spray it the second it starts charging you and its within range, no matter if its a black or grizzly. and dont empty the whole can at once, try to conserve the bear spray.
