When you use the PAST TENSE to talk about THE FUTURE | Unreal past [Weird English]

We talk about the unreal past with WISH, IF ONLY, SUPPOSE, WHAT IF, CONDITIONALS, HAD BETTER and soup...mostly mulligatawny soup. We use the past tense to talk about the present and future. Yes, English is sometimes weird.

Even though the content is really useful, I find it extremely difficult to apply while talking. For native speakers like you, things would come intuitively. But being a non-native speaker, it takes too much effort to apply these rules in daily conversations making you almost paralytic. Even while watching the video, I can't form the right sentences. I can't imagine what a task it would be to think about these grammar rules before forming a sentence in my head while talking. Of course, I have the liberty of time while writing but while talking, it's a different ball game for us. Thanks for the content anyways.

I massively relate to this. What I've been trying to do is to subconsciously think in English, when talking in the language, as opposed to thinking in my native language, then translate it to English. It's a hard task, indeed! But I'm challenged when I do things that are hard!

This is one of the most useful videos of Gideon I have watched. So I bookmarked it. I think even for an advanced learner of English with all those subtle nuances this can get pretty intricate and is full of traps. As an aside, I am curious how you produce and cut your videos staging a talk between a bearded and a shaven Gideon? I think this requires a director's foresight and planning of scenes.
