It wouldn’t work like that i am afraid. As long as Porsche retains ownership over that brand, those regulations will still apply. Shmee, Nick here. We met a few years ago, I was the one rolling up in the 911R when you were filming at Pagani for a delivery. We, the 918 owners, killed the Mission X for Porsche. 1/3 is a very generous number, they were planning to sell 1000 of that, they don't even have 100 serious interest After a year of courting their potential customers with private showings in Zuffenhausen and at Rennsport Reunion. We had a private talk with Dr Blume for about 45mins at Le Mans earlier this year and we convinced him that if they continue with the Mission X it WILL fail, we aren't interested. We however, are interested in another hybrid. Shortly after Le Mans the project is cancelled.

I wonder if they binned the 917 Living Legend concept too. Unlike the Mission X, it had great potential with a flat-8. I don't have a 918 (TTS), but I remember stressing to my dealership that Porsche should continue developing the 917LL. Make it a high-revving flat-8 PHEV, change/development the styling a bit so that it resembles the 988, some exotic bells and whistles like the 918, and there's a money magnet right there. Record breaker, sales or track. It's a shame though. They developed the 917 LL as a homologation special before the LMDh spec was introduced in WEC. Haven't heard about it since.

@@Poussyeater-w5e throw enough advanced alloys/composites and we'll be fine. Porsche's all about innovation, yeah? They can even 3D print/RLP the engine block in graphene-infused aluminium alloy, have it ceramic coated, cylinder heads titanium-aluminide, pistons in graphene-titanium composite with carbon fiber rods and diamond-like carbon coatings to name a few making it as light as possible. Hell if they're extremely dedicated the monocoque can be RLP-printed graphene-enhanced composites too. There's a lot of (very expensive lol) options - and since it's a limited make hypercar, it makes sense to use em.

Do the regulations apply to all companies within a conglomerate? If they only apply to each individual company, couldn’t VAG just create a spinoff company dedicated to ultra low production, ultra high end cars? Porsche could have something like “Porsche Design Automotive” and Ferrari could have something like “Ferrari Exclusivo” that are dedicated to halo cars only. That is, of course, only possible if these regulations count car production per company rather than per conglomerate. Additionally, I think if we could build an electric car of a similar range and weight to the internal combustion engine equivalents, a lot more people would be interested. People talk about how electric cars don’t make noise, but that’s simply untrue. Electric motors make all sorts of crazy futuristic sounds. They are quieter than internal combustion, for sure. But the experience inside the car can be quite fun. A lighter car would make it more fun while driving around corners. Additionally, while it’s hardly necessary - there’s no reason whatsoever that you can’t put a gearbox behind an electric motor. Sure, it makes it less efficient, but there is something to be said for the sound/feel/emotion of slamming gears (or they could do what hyundai did with the Ioniq 5 N).

@ that's unfortunate. It would have been cool if the EU had put something in those rules that basically allowed conglomerates/larger manufacturers to build up to a certain number of cars of a specific model that don't adhere to those rules. For instance there could be be a concession that's something like "any manufacturer that makes over 50,000 cars per year can produce up to 500 cars every 5 years that adhere to more lax emissions standards." While I'm no scientist, I highly doubt that an average of 100 cars per year would actually affect aggregate emissions, especially considering how rarely these cars actually get run or driven. Honestly, they could basically take the US show and display exemption from the 25 year rule, but for emissions. This would let the EU limit the number of miles these cars can be driven in a year, which would effectively restrict overall emissions while still allowing crazy cars to be made and shown off.

@@Shmee150 Tim, it sounds like ANY mass produced vehicle will be completely unable to have a V-12. That all this "progress" just means getting a (relatively) lightweight V-12 (maybe V8 in the near future), will require buyers to spend literally millions of dollars on a boutique brand where servicing also becomes an issue. Seems messed up. Do you think there's any chance Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, etc. could continue offering these engines, albeit only in the U.S.? Thanks.

@@KaminKevCrew I agree 100%. These cars get used so rarely, that their impact is close to 0.

@@KaminKevCrewAll electric high performance cars essentially drive the same and are practically indistinguishable from each other. The differences between the Rimac Nevera, Pininfarina Battista, and Lotus Evija are slim, other than styling and interiors (which is hardly a reason to purchase such a car) At least with ICE cars you get varying cylinders, forced induction or natural aspiration, different types of transmissions etc… There simply is no way electric wins here, and the low demand for these electric hypercars is the cherry on top.

About EV's : Well to be perfectly honest, in my humble opinion, of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also by looking into this matter in a different perspective and without being condemning of one's view's and by trying to make it objective, and by considering each and every one's valid opinion, I honestly believe that I completely forgot what I was going to say

Great topic Shmee . And sad predicament we are in. I think Porsche should do both Mission X in small volume meeting whatever demand there is .. halo electric car to meet the regulation Could that then not offset by using existing V8 or maybe flat 6 and further develop with hybrid tech using the street or maybe even mission X?
@Craftyboy8913 күн бұрын
In an ideal world we would have V10s, V12s still being produced by, for example Ferrari, for another 10-30 years. Doesn't matter if you buy a Koenigsegg or a Pagani with limited production and insane value, or a Ferrari and a Lamborghini with higher production numbers, every person who buys these cars are out for the same thing: A car with a soul and a beating heart. I personally think it's a shame that the F80 doesn't have a V12, it is supposed to be the next big thing for Ferrari, like the F40, F50, Enzo, LaFerrari etc. However now I feel like the Daytona SP3 has taken over that role with its V12. A sports car should be able to make you feel a connection to the car, not like its an everyday car like EVs are mainly for.

When you're spending that kind of money on a car, you want the theatre that comes with it. The noise from the engine is a big part of it. An all electric car is fun for about a week before the novelty of it wears off.

I realize it is a matter of opinion, very subjective, but the McLaren W1 is the one to beat as the Ferrari F80, in respects to external design really missed the mark for me. I will root for the Porche if they move forward, but not if it's a full EV. And as for me, the terms "Hypercar" and "All electric" should not be used together. Cheeeers Tim!
@mattiskeller570313 күн бұрын
Most likely there won’t be any Hypercar from Porsche in the forseeabel future due to the struggles of VAG in Germany. They are going to keep their money together. Hypercars are only prestige products and will not bring in a huge profit (if it’s even profitabel)

To summarize, the only reason we can have hypercars with big engines like Bugatti Toubillion or Pagani Utopia is that their production numbers are very low. Is that correct?
