I had noticed this myself too mate (barely any bees, wasps, cockchafers or moths) and had a friend who mention it to me too recently, weird ent it.

Yes it's not normal mike, I'd love to know why!

Same, I've seen a few bees on the lavender when on dog walks.... not alot of butterflys or hoverflys.

I saw a couple more bees last week peach but it still equates to bugger all!

I've been moored all along the marshes and wetlands in East London this summer, it's usually thick with bees- this summer I've only seen dead bees. Very few butterflies, and only one or two bats which is very unusual. Not sure if it's related, but this year is the first time I've ever seen large grass snakes swimming and hunting in the river. They're usually too shy to be out in the open in busy areas...
@jim.m754 ай бұрын
It's a worry that the bats and birds will be absent next year as a result, I get bats in the garden so I'll have to keep an eye out. Do grass snakes mostly eat mice and frogs?
@PhilRamone775 ай бұрын
Also in South Beds but haven’t seen much change thankfully. Lots of butterflies and different bee species. Moths and bats also.

Cheers Phil that's encouraging to hear so close to home!

Same here in North west Essex, plus... where are all the hedgehogs?

Same here in North Somerset, I live and work on the exmoor coast an we have had virtually no bees this year, other insect life has been very low too. We have had a ridiculously high compared to normal amount of small migratory birds, tits etc as well as plague levels of blackbirds and wood pigeon which have done untold crop damage to crops already struggling due to the weather, a very bad year to be a farmer. All the best for I and the ferrets.
@jim.m754 ай бұрын
Cheers that's interesting to hear, and yes it's been a bloody awful year! I used to keep ferrets, brilliant little creatures :)
@MyGetcarter4 ай бұрын
Yes as compo said " a man can't be expected to live without a ferret " mine do a lot of rat work, far more efficient and green than traps or poison, if your ever in need of a new one let me know, I breed most years. Great channel mate, let's hope for an Indian summer.

We have bees that look more like wasps on our alotment, and lots of insects that bite, but overall the number on my visor when I get home from work is almost zero in Dorset. Clarkson did a column about it, this could be year zero for pollonation.
@jim.m754 ай бұрын
I really hope that this is just a temporary blip timbo, we shall see! Those wasp-like bees you have could be honey bees, which is encouraging
@user-adoyle1235 ай бұрын
I was wondering that as well. I haven't seen any Bees at all, Not one butterfly's, even ground worms. Lots of Hornets tho. Hi from Ireland 😊
@jim.m754 ай бұрын
Hi adoyle, those hornets are a nightmare! They attack bee colonies and decimate them, nasty little buggers

Ive seen plenty of bees but only seen 3 butterflies !! Which in a reasonable sized garden is very very disturbing ..they have been declining maybe over the last 30 years or so year on year! I live in north east lancashire

Hi Jim, in my area example is my neighbor across the road has assembled bee hives, and many others have done the same thing and placed them in a unused farm field, what i have done to add to the fix is, i am replacing the grass with white Dutch clover , plant clover around your place to feed the bees that are present
@jim.m754 ай бұрын
That's a good move bob, they love clover!

I live on the south coast, and I haven't seen many insects either. Hardly any bees compared to usual, nor that many flies either. And I've only seen two butterflies. You may well be right about the weather manipulation ( I hadn't heard they were doing that, sounds like a damn iffy thing to be mucking around with tbh ). The last Govt repealed the law banning bee killing pesticides a year or two ago ( bastards ), and I would imagine that will be having an effect as well.
@jim.m754 ай бұрын
Yes I remember them lifting that ban zed, I think it might have been neonicotinoids. Very nasty stuff for bees.
@tacticalpirate3725 ай бұрын
Hi Jim there is a massive decline of both up here and there is a link due to the increased use of Neonicotinoids. Which have a massive impact on bee colonies..
@jim.m754 ай бұрын
Ah nice one tactical I was thinking of neonicotinoids, I remember a lot of concern about them a few years back. Typical, no one took any notice

Yes quite likely marek you might find them in Leighton Buzzard, or they might have made a bee-line south to Rotherhive
