I think Brugge found the formula, and weaker teams like Zagreb and Rangers replicated it. Those teams now go man for man on us, close-out the options to play out from the back. Rangers are good out of possession, but they struggle when they dominate possession. They don't have the quality to break other SPL teams down, hence their inconsistency. We will still comfortably win the league. Its clear though we need an alternative style when encountering teams who go man for man on us.

Saying we were only 14pts clear because rangers had been so poor, is a daft thing to say. Prior to Sunday we'd taken 50/54 points available to us in the league. So did those points just magically fall out of the sky? Any team that takes 50 pts from their opening 18 league games is going to have a pretty decent lead. Ok maybe not 14pts but even a "good" rangers team would likely have been 8-10pts behind heading in to yesterday's game. Also, the point about "We don't sign these players to beat Ross County...." eh well yes we do! There's no point beating rangers if you cannot put all the other teams away on a regular basis. So it's about doing both and that's what we've managed to do, hence the 11pt gap.
@benditlikeproductions53942 күн бұрын
Hi, in a 2 horse race, you'd expect both of them to win every game, but you can't win every game. I expected us to have 50 points and them to have 44, so to be 11 ahead is far more than I expected, not that I'm complaining! If we're spending £6m+ on a player, it's to make a difference in the big games, like Ibrox. We don't need to spend that sort of money to beat the other teams, as the standard is very poor.
@Mantis_Toboggan_MD.2 күн бұрын
@@benditlikeproductions5394 At no point in history have either team won every game. The SPFL isn't a 'Top 5" league but you are talking like it's basically Sunday league amateurs we're up against. Also, this shouldn't need pointing out again (but apparently it does!) we absolutely do need to sign quality players in order to beat the likes of Ross County & Co on a regular basis. Signing players of equal or only slightly better standard, will not get us the results required week in week out.

Rangers have reverted to a middle block to pressurise our midfield and we have not come up with an answer. The players should be able to sort that out on the park but haven't, so Brendan needs to sort it. The team needs to be much further back to create space behind to run into and to fight for the ball. This waiting behind their defenders is lazy and cowardice. We need to get rid of Hatate if we want to play Rodger's favoured possession based football. He's nowhere near consistent enough and gives the ball away constantly. Taylor needs to sign a new contract or move on. He's been great for us and I hope he stays, but his head is elsewhere.

We've been very consistent this season and the team and manager deserve immense credit and it has been given to them several times. However, yesterday's non-performance and lack of fight, desire and adaptability by the players and manager was wholly unacceptable and should be called out. We played into the hands of a mediocre team who were depleted and Rodgers didn't respond with necessary personnel changes, tactics, or a different shape to try and influence the flow of the game. It was an embarrassing display and the manager and players cannot allow that to happen again. The consolation is we are still miles ahead in the league but lessons have to be learned. It also highlighted weaknesses in positions e.g. the need for a left sided CH of a similar quality to CCV, a stronger more physical CDM, a very good robust LB and at least 1 one high quality winger. Let's dust ourselves down and push on to Improve the team/squad and ensure there's no repeats of that shambles yesterday. Hail Hail 🍀

We can play any system against SPL dross and still win. When the system clearly struggles in two games against rangers and against dortmund, brugge ,Atalanta and against kille should we not be able to change systems for certain games?. Should a top class manager not be able to change formation during a game when its cleary not working or are you just happy about scudding teams with a fraction of our budget and winning a shite league.
@martinrooney68833 күн бұрын
@ACelticStateOfMind Yeah we should have changed systems at half time. I was more speaking about people in the comments rather than the content itself. We should have went to a 4-3-1-2 Put Maeda up front along with Kyogo to run in behind and Kuhn playing just behind. We were having zero luck on the wings where 75% of our attacking usually go through. You could see that through Rangers game plan. Kuhn wasn't allowed to come inside like he usually does. Defence should have been pushed up and Mcgregor should have been taking the balls from the centre halfs and distributing from there because he wasn't composed and didn't have his usual time in the middle of the park. The game was that open and scrappy it didn't matter how we pressed in the end. That Rangers Defence needed to be stretched and the one time we done that we scored from it albeit it was chopped off. Maeda would have caused more problems playing upfront and the overall press would have been more effective coming from there. We are talking about getting a number 10 in January then we would need to potentially change system's to accommodate this and I don't believe the system needs to be changed, before yesterday we only dropped 4 points. The Kieran Tierney transfer I would love to see happen but only at left back. If Greg Taylor leaves we still need cover because of Tierney's Injury record If we play him centre back his distribution is not nearly as good as Liam Scales, Scales passing accuracy is 92.4 % and Trusty is not far behind in that regard. KT would be flawed in this system. Is it really worth changing a system that works most of the time just to potentially accommodate KT?
@martinrooney68833 күн бұрын
@jackjones1249 that SPL dross is out bread and butter to get into Europe next season whether we like it or not. We changed system for Atalanta away then referred back to the original system and beat Leipzig. We won the cup with the same system and beat Rangers 3-0 at Celtic Park. Rodgers should have changed system during the match yesterday I totally agree but I don't agree with potentially changing system in the future to accommodate a number 10 or a KT. Feel like im going to be saying the word "system" in my sleep tonight 🤣

It is not how you start, it is how you finish. Your manager was right to say there was numerous reasons for the performance and I agree with him but if the players think the league is over then it could spell trouble. Complacency is the enemy of success. Rangers deserved it by far. I'm glad we've got some competition again from the other side of Glasgow. Everyone has a bad day at the office. Good to hear at long last some movement from the authorities on the nasty incidents. But how many of these have to happen before more serious sanctions are implemented? It's disgraceful. This is a game of football and these acts are absolutely unacceptable from any sports fans. I was recently abused by a Rangers fan after the Scottish Cup Final. My cousin's mate hit by a bottle and head cut open the last time Celtic fans were at Ibrox. Chris Sutton's security could not be guaranteed recently by the club. The glass in Joe Hart's box. The continual sectarian anti-Catholic songs. SS emblem. Bottle thrown at our physio. And now this coin throwing at both Engels - who could have lost his eye FFS! - and Rodgers. Much more has to be done. Rodgers criticises the referee after the diabolical decisions at the Hearts away game last season and is banned and fined. Should I mention Neil Lennon's attack a number of years ago? Nothing done. We all have to work harder and be more caring and conscientious to call these things out and complain to the authorities and the clubs. And do the same if our fans ever step out of line. Let's hope for a peaceful and successful 2025. No more complacency or terrible incidents please. YNWA HH!

Clemente asked them to stand off when either Scales or CV had the ball, then as soon as they passed the the midfield, they ganged up aggressively on the person recieving the ball. That was why our midfield kept losing the ball. Watch the other teams in the league follow suit.

Hang on….are you discounting my many European Cup winning exploits on Champ Manager circa 1996? 😂 I wouldn’t disagree buddy….and I said it myself….its the danger of sounding like an Armchair manager, especially when applying the hindsight factor! Brendan has my unequivocal support as always & I trust his judgement implicitly! Ultimately my suggestion on the tactical or system changes is purely based on how I as a supporter viewed the game & as we’ve seen, opinions vary to a great extent but at the end of the day, Brendan as the manager has earned the right to set up & configure the team as he deems fit, and he has my trust in doing so 👍🏻
@Michael198413 күн бұрын
Ha ha I did forget! No harm intended, I think we all went a bit mad at that performance so disregard my comment. My tuppence worth is playing Hatate when he gives the ball away numerous times and playing two wingers leaves the midfield wide open. I’ve no doubt Brendan will sort it though. In terms of ego I’m surprised you didn’t slip in the old classic Everyone’s Got One line.

@@doubledenim5224 I think when you have so many players making basic errors, it becomes very hard to analyse formations, tactics etc... If you have 1-2 players on the pitch who are just making unforced error after unforced error.... Any "system" will just fall apart. But Celtic had about 4-5 players who were making basic errors, so where do you even begin? 4-4-2 or 4-1-2-3 or 4-3-3..... It barely matters if your players are just continually giving the ball away, failing to control it etc... I think the players did "bottle it" to a certain extent. What I mean by that, is that when things started going wrong at 1-0, instead of just getting in to a good shape and staying solid for 5-10 mins we started trying even more difficult passes despite the fact that basic 10-20 yard passes had become a chore. We suddenly had Hatate & Kyogo trying wee flicks and delicate lay offs.... I mean I suppose you could argue they were trying to be brave but there's a fine line between bravery & stupidity and we came down on the wrong side of it. I don't think there's much a manager can really do about decisions players make in the heat of the moment during a game.

Where did it all go wrong?? The players along with every pundit and most of the fans on here (apart from Jim) were far to cocky and were convinced that we just had to turn up to win. People on here were going on about winning 3-0,3-1, 4-1, 5-2. this will give EVERYONE a kick in the arse that was badly needed. We should NEVER have started Taylor and he should never pull a Celtic shirt on again, the way he reacted when being subbed was totally out of order. Hatate is an empty shirt in these games and has been for the last 18 months. We also need to stop playing 3 in midfield when they are playing 5. P J, to say that you never seen this coming shows you how many games you must watch of ours, this kind of result and performance has been coming for a long time. It would have happened in the cup final if they had scored to go 2 up when they went through 4 on 1, we would have folded then. Jim also needs to stop talking pish, its not the first time that he has claimed that Rangers have better players than us. He needs to stay off of whatever he is drinking. Kev for once I have to agree with you regarding the formation, I think BR wants to change it

Where, in the two defeats throughout the entirety of 2024, did you see Rangers dismantling this Celtic side the way they did? That just comes across as a heavy dose of hindsight. As for the amount of games I’ve watched… We’ve covered every kick of the ball over the last five seasons… and I’ve been going to Celtic Park since 1987… so I’ve seen quite a few John 👍🏻
@BengalsJon713 күн бұрын
@@ACelticStateOfMind Where did I mention the two defeats in 2024, I mentioned that this has been coming. We were very lucky to win the final, there have been other games that we have won but played bloody awfull and got away with it due to the other teams not being good enough to exploit us, The 3-0 game against Hibs wasn't as easy as the scoreline suggests and Hibs had plenty of chances to score but don't have the ability. We could have been 2-0 down to Aberdeen in the first 25 mins of the game we won 1-0 but again Aberdeen couldn't take advantage. Even our 2-0 win at Killie, they had chances to go 2-0 up before we scored our goal in injury time in the first half, Taylor going awol again let them get in behind only for there young striker to fluff his chance and then Kasper keeping the game at 0-0 against Watkins, so please don't make out like this performance has been some kind of one off and we have won every other game easily this season. Even games where we have won easily, there are very, very few that we have dominated for the 90mins. usually this team play very well for the first 45mins and then look like they have taken there foot off the gas or we pass, pass, pass until the other team get tired and we score a few late on. I'm not complaining regarding the position we are in but you need to take a long look at the performances and be honest and admit that if other teams took even half the chances that we keep presenting them with then this league would look awfully different. Oh by the way, I watch the show every day and have done since covid although I don't get a chance to watch it live and watch it every night and want to thank you for keeping me sane but please be honest and not just a fan boy. I'm also pretty sure that you have mentioned a few times that you don't get to games any more, I started going to Parkhead '86 with the Shamrock Rovers game being my first

I’ve not got confidence in BR making January signings. Wed £26m on the BENCH and he didn’t trust them. And don’t say Engels was ill. He’s been on the bench the past few weeks. So WHY are we spending that amount cos these and Europe are the games these players were bought for. The manager FAILED to change a system at HT. and then it’s damage limitation followed by his ludicrous statement “maybe our 14 point lead spooked our players. What utter nonsense. Even on Thursday like all of our games we have around 65-70% POSESSION. And we have nothing to show for it at HT 0-0. Rarely go forward - well that’s how we’ve a Captain who always plays EASY side and backwards passes.
