His 1st WW moustache was one of several standard issue models from the Hammilburg stashfabrikkenwerks available to the lower ranks. The Treaty of Versailles then limited german mustache size during the early interwar period. The "toothbrush" style, as you call it, was actually two different models. The first was designed my Ferdinand Porsche and was designed to allow his head to traverse a full 360 degrees. The second was the wartime armored model provided by the Krupp steel works ( notice the gunmetal grey patina ). The armored stache was recovered by the Russians in Berlin and is now in the Stalin Museum of Mustaches in Moscow.

2:19 - A small clarification. There have been two waves of the deportation of Kurds from the Caucasus to Central Asia. The first occurred before the Second World War - in 1937 and concerned the Kurds who lived in Armenia and Azerbaijan in the former autonomous region of Red Kurdistan with the capital in the city of Lachin. I see the whole South Tyrol situation as an interesting parallel with the sudetenland situation - both were majority German-speaking regions taken from German sovereignty by the entente in the wake of ww1, and both had some sentiment toward returning to German hands; However, this really shows German double standards, as they were perfectly content with their people having to choose between emigration and loss of rights in this case, but in the Sudetenland they couldn't tolerate a choice that was not only similar, but better, as the Sudeten Germans enjoyed equal rights under Czechoslovak democracy as an alternative to emigration.
@lordekker3 жыл бұрын
Citizen rights and happiness are not the final goal of any government, including the present day ones (in modern democracies we have parliaments to make citizen interests). The thing is that Sudetenland was of prime strategic importance for Germany, while sud Tirol was for Italy but not for Germany. So their deal made perfect sense geopolitically speaking. Mussolini and Hitler murdered Tirol with equal responsibility.

Was Hitler still in the regular armed forces in 1921? Certainly he was not yet demobilised in 1919 but was he still in the army two years later? Versailles required the entire German army to be cut to 100,000 troops and 4,000 officers, and one reason for the evolution of the Freikorps was to get around that.

Hitler was working for the Reichswehr (army) through the Bavarian government after the war. At first he was in charge of handling pension registries, coordinating with the troops being disbanded, and other administrative duties. A few months into 1919 he was transferred to be a field clerk charged with secretly monitoring the emerging freikorps and extremist parties at risk if seeding sedition, or orchestrating coups. Informative video, TimeGhost team :') Thank you for mentioning the Kurds, but is it possible to dedicate an episode to them? Thank you again for these amazing videos!

That is a Gottfried Feder mustache. Feder was a founder of the Nazi Party whom Hitler emulated.

During WWI Hitler had a full bushy moustache until he got gassed. The gas mask wouldn't allow the mask to seal properly and he suffered from the effects of the gas. After that he adopted the smaller version.

Omg did he just mention Kurds in his video 😍 Biji kurdistan ❤️💛💚 But I must say at 0:39 that Kurdistan almost covers all of northern Syria and further parts on Iraq

I feel like the "Hitler" stash was a way for WW1 vets to show, "Yes, I served in the trenches and endured gas attacks, did you?" Because it became the Hitler stash it fell out of favor.

Soviets: The Kurds are too Turkish to be trusted. Turks: The Kurds aren't Turkish enough to be trusted.

I wish we got Out of the Foxhole as much as we got Out of the Trenches. It is always a great segment.

Thank you for your amazing videos. Could you please cover a forgotten topic: the military contribution of Italy on the French front in 1918?
@WorldWarTwo3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. Unfortunately as a World War Two channel, the events of 1918 are a little too far beyond our remit. Indy does cover Italian contributions to WW2 quite extensively though. Have a look at these two regular episodes. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYrdn4OGf9qnkJo kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYXOm3WGesuCjMU

He should have kept the 1921 moustache. That actually looked pretty good.

This tie looks like another reissue, but a fine one at that. 4/5
@haraldbald59643 жыл бұрын
I must agree with both your statement of reissue and the ranking as upon sighting this tie my little grey cells they kicked in and I was either having a memory or a fever dream and that tie was in it! In the dream I am not sure it was Indy or some guy with a tooth brush mustache sporting it though. Please ask Hastings if he remembers anything beyond the cricket scores that can help us solve this mystery.
