ELO really isn't designed for sports like MMA where a fighter's career can be 10 fights, and that's not a terrible career. It shines with sports with many more data points

@@yeusseanIts not at all inaccurate, its just better suited to other sports/games. It was designed for chess specifically, and while other games and sports can adapt it, it has some blind spots in sports like MMA so it may have a bit of deviation from the expected results.

Bro awesome work. If I can suggest, I really think 1500 point as starting score is better - its the base line for sooo many others sports, including chess and Dota2 ... Hope it is easily adjustable, I would love to watch a video with this updated points. Ty!

Alex is in a GOAT conversation of combats sports not only MMA, because he was first double Champion in Glory and defended both belts there and in MMA he has been doing the same. And he is for real the first possible triple champion without being delusional (as people were about Chimaev).

I think the ELO should have a dominance adjustment, strike differential and submission attempts. As damage and effective grappling is what the rulebook says should be judged. Good example Yair beats Korean Zombie in last couple of seconds with a KO after losing possibly every round.

9:39 I was just thinking you might need to add a formula to award extra elo for really quick and/or long, dominance should be accounted for in some way I think, you could probably just add a flat 5 elo for every championship fight /title defense/bmf belt

u should have an elo boost for championship fights because they’re 5 rounds as opposed to three so maybe the k value should increase proportionally, and i feel like this matches w public perception bc ppl will use title defense streaks to build goat arguments

Are you planning to work on an F1 ELO/Ranking system ? Mr V's was interesting but had me thinking about how factoring the other variables such as car performance or other drivers would affect the ranking.

I lack the programming knowledge but ive been thinking of a system that calculates the P4P trough the following points: -only championship fights: as you cannot ever be p4p just fighting journeyman and gatekeepers -level of opposition: Factoring the quality (rank) of the opponent's fighter Activity: how many fights the fighter had in the lapse of 1 year Carisma: how you affected the sport of even trascended it (Ali, Mcgregor, Tyson, PPV) Miscelaneous: achieves like fighter of the year, bonus performances, breaking records or multiple division champ As for the GOAT discussion you just would need to factor an average of every year p4p ranking and that's it... unless something really remarkable like 3 divsion champ happens

1) Bad take. Quality of the fight doesn't depend on whether it's a championship fight 2) That's an obvious take but not specific enough. ELO already includes level of the opponent into the formula. The question is, whether the way it's done in ELO optimal for MMA or not. 3) Good take, but doesn't really correlate with skill level of the fighter 4) Awful, terrible take. It's the sport, not the movie 5) Mostly irrelevant and hard to actually include in any math formula

Would you be able to add other orgs (may make dj rival jj) wnd could you go further with the knockout/submission boost to make it so elo increase is affected by how dominant the decision is as jj would mostly get given more points for getting whooped by reyes than khabib for mauling al iaquinta (just things im interested in)?
