Neve Shalom in Israel is the site of a unique experiment. For around 50 years, Palestinians and Israelis have grown up alongside each other in a bid to show that peace is possible, no matter what is happening in the world outside.
The filmmaker Maayan Schwartz grew up in Neve Shalom. In his documentary, he explores the question of whether co-existence between Jewish Israelis and Palestinians is possible. The film shows Schwartz‘ largely carefree childhood in the community he shared with his Palestinian friends - an ease that is shattered when he decides to join the army.
The film poses the question of whether an experiment like Neve Shalom is a utopia that crumbles as soon as the residents leave their bubble and venture into the outside world -- where hatred, violence and a lack of understanding on both sides is the order of the day.

In hindsight it appears and was treated like a social experiment. At least this revolutionary idealis. tic spark and beacon of hope/ peace is so well documented (the kids experienced it as somewhat of a strain). Now - sadly- this piece of hope for a peaceful future seems more distant than ever with the ongoing eruptions ofethic and religious intolerance injestice and violence. War doesn't discriminate, both sides suffer

This is an amazingly interesting part of history I did not know about. I could never imagine the pain it caused their Palestinian neighbors and friends when the young men joined the military... “The people of South Africa will never forget the support of the state of Israel to the apartheid regime.” ~ Nelson Mandela on being released in 1990 In 1977, the United Nations passed a mandatory arms embargo against South Africa. Israel has repeatedly violated this mandate, equipping the white minority government with a number of weapons, including missiles, several kinds of aircraft, long-range missile boats and other lethal equipment. Israelis have also trained South African troops and provided advisers to the apartheid state in its military attacks against Angola.
