Boss, hate to say this but I think when you were hitting the topspin pro at about 9:27, need to slow down the upper body. Let the lower body dictate and release the upper body torque buildup. Just an FYI and my two cents observation. Very good video and analysis of Roger's forehand. Love It! Would love to see you do one on Stan. Thanks.

This pre-stretch generates power is still hard for me to grasp. Is our muscle really like a rubber band that we stretch and then release it could generate power? Is there any other sports using the same mechanism to generate power? In any case I know you try your best to explain it. Thanks Ryan. 🙏👍

Does the "reactive break" mean an actual pause during the pat the dog motion OR just means sto pthe upper body from over rotating?
@2MinuteTennis2 жыл бұрын
The body rotates to bring the racket forward and just before contact the body stops rotating for just a moment and the arm accelerates. The body rotation stopping just before contact is the reactive break.

I wonder if your reactive break means the same as the whip effect, Ryan.

Yep. That's what it is.

It is your upper body stop rotating.

This is a great video Ryan! Would you be willing to share what software you use for drawing on these videos? I am a coach, too, and i am looking for a software to be able to show clips like this to my students. I love your videos. Keep up the good work!

Thanks Ryan will work on these! 2 questions pls 1. what do I need to look for on video to ensure I have done the reactive break enough? 2. any ground force tips for power on FH side eg uncoiling from pressure in R heel a la golf swing? Thx !

I noticed that at impact his hand is further out in front then the ball. I do this consciously when playing and it has a positive effect.

Big true about slowing the body down before the contact. A lot of people don't know that. This can be seen even better with Nadal when he tucks his right hand in front of the body to slow his body rotation.

The concept of slowing the body down after contact is absolute rubbish. It happens in this example because of his closed stance. He usually hits with a semi-open or open stance, after which his body naturally slows down but rotates further. Players are absolutely not deliberately slowing their bodies down after contact. The more you get your hitting shoulder through the shot, rotationally, the more racket speed you will create.

I'm not familiar with the concept of "reactive brake", but the stopping of the torso is not actively thought about in the forehand. The video to me sounds like you're saying to concentrate on stopping whereas it naturally happens without thought akin to when you are cracking a whip. Using the whip analogy, the base of the whip is your lower body and racket sweet spot the tip.
